Finally after much advice from a computery mucka I've got some pics of the dogs !! Merle bitch, Storm. Dam beddy saturated lurcher X pure Kelpie Brindle dog, Sonny, litter brother to Storm. 4 years old last october, both 22 tts ish and about 40 lbs. Chocolate bitch, Gyp, 3/4 Kelpie 1/4 collie. Same sire as Sonny and Storm on both sides I think. 11 months old and mad as a bag of wasps. One for anyone else with a canine foot fetish, Not the easiest photo to take with a hyper kelpie pup, hope it gives some idea of the strong structure of a kelpie b

Your English is bloody good, about the only Russian I know is vodka !!
-
Where are you based ? Do they live together, if so she may be in the family way herself ? Cheers, Finn.

It's certainly bright, should be able to spot it when my 2 year old daughter whisps it away for a read. That yellow one blends in with the rest of her books a tad too much!! Let us know when it's available boss, All the best, Finn.

Can't tell you how impressed I am with the way you work your dogs and hawk. I'm going to say 7 pups, 3 bitches and 4 dogs and one of them will have the classic collie lurcher markings !! Do I win a hunting holiday if I'm right ?! Cheers chaps, off to get me a gallon of Factor 300 looks warm out there, Finn.

Bloody hell fellas, by the sound of it the dog can do no wrong!! Fenman, do you know if many of your pups litter brothers / sisters where of a similar build to yours? Yours is a cracking size and build for my country and work. Would like to put a dog of this sort over my Kelpie/beddy lurcher. I'm not into breeding for the sake of it but the bitch is a goodun and if I do then I want to put her to a robust dog with loads of drive, a decent bit of pace and cleanish running blood shes only got around 1/4 runner, still quick but having taken advice and thinking about it think this would be

Real crackers Neal, that Amber's a racy looking hound. Well done on getting the photos up, I've still got to get a mate to do mine !! All the best, Finn.

Done !! Sorry fellas, still trying to get my head round the whole computer thing, !!! Finn.

Does anyone have any photos or performance reports of the dog Bigland Boy ? Heard a bit about him but would be interested to hear more. Also anybody who owns pups from him, would be interested to here about them too. Many thanks, Finn.

Ratreeper, have to say that I find the whole idea of having a litter a bit daunting really. If I wasn't so fond of the way the dog works I wouldn't even consider it. That said I think that the earliest would be this time next year, as fond of her as I am, there's still a few things I would like to try the dog at first then I would really know what the way forward would be. I want to make sure that she's really capable of being consistent at a variety of tasks. The main goal at the end of the day would be a to produce a smart, robust, mid sized pup that would give it's all on any suit

Well done to the pair of you, bet you don't forget that bunny for a while, you sound proper pleased it aint just the big numbers that put a smile on the face. Cheers, Finn.

My 1/2 cross kelpie bitch can yap a bit mainly hunting heavy cover but did once when hunting a recent fox trail across a ploughed field. Sometimes does when running the first bunny of the night on the lamp but even then it's only ever a very faint whine really. Thinking about it I don't recall her ever doing it when she was the only dog I was working, memory could deceive me on that one though !! 3/4 kelpie pup is noisy as feck !! It seems to be a hyper-excited puppy whine and it does my head in. She does quieten down after burning off a little steam but if someone tries to gee th

Cheers Digger, couple of good points you made there. I am aware that there can be problems with mating two dogs with the merle gene but not exactly sure how these problems manifest themselves. Can anyone explain for me ? Think that if I do breed from her then a real strong hard grafting whippet or greyhound would be the way ahead. I've seen some crackers on this site and particularly like the look of Mike Browns stuff. I'm not a big fan of breeding for the sake of it but storms 4 1/2 now so it's maybe time to start thinking about it a bit seriously. Mates who've seen her work tell me

Sheamus, there will be German shepherds all over the country just sat, quietly, crying into their medication when they look at that photo of your pup. All the dogs on this post just ooze robustness (is that even a real word) and health. Lets hope they stay that way, hope they stay in the hands of people who work them. Cheers, Finn.

Ratreeper, sorry if it appears I've hi jacked the thread, if I'm going off topic too much just say and I'll try and start a new thread. Apologies, Finn.

Digger63, she's not over heavy is she. Out of the litter of 3 she's probably the heaviest like I said my mates dog is similar to storm if a touch lighter, there was a little black bitch as well, seen photos of her and she looks stunning like a whippet on steriods so no really cloddy pups at all. As to what I would put over storm, well to be honest I just don't know. I've never bred a litter yet so don't know if I've got that eye that some people seem to have where they just know which is the right dog for a particular bitch. All I do know is that the dog would need all the qualities t

Mike, I've been on this thread no end of times and have to say it's a beauty. Keep looking at the photo of your big dog and I've got to say that I just can't find fault in him, sad but I've even taken photos of him on the phone and shown everyone that's into dogs and they all say the same, stunning!! Not blowing anyone but on looks alone, having not seen the dog work, he must be what anyone breeding this cross would be aiming for. If he's got the same work ethic as the kelpie blooded stuff we use and being nearly twice the weight then, well, it makes my spine tingle . . . . . In a good wa

Great thread fellas, got to say that I love the look of these hounds real rough n ready looking dogs. Think it's worth remembering the saying "beauty is as beauty does" we often seem to get a bit quick to judge a dog on it's looks which is fine if your just keeping them for their appearence but when your trying to work difficult ground and hard quarry then ability alone should be all that counts if he looks good as well then that's a bonus. Is the old coyote coursing difficult to get into in that are there good numbers around to ensure the dogs a decent bit of work and are most of the

Pics of the dogs for Ratreeper and Digger63. Merle bitch, Storm, 22 tts and 38lb. Her dam was Beddy saturated lurcher, Sire Pure kelpie. Mole, 23 tts and 30 lb (ish). Her dam was Beddy/whip, Sire Beddy/grey Hope you get an idea of the build, couldn't get any pictures of Storms litter brother but hes similar build to storm if slightly lighter build. Cheers chaps, Finn.

Wooly, I can think of easier ways to ruin a dog !! If you pick your runs and don't just slip on anything in the lamp then no harm done, dog gets a walk if nothing else. Just look at it as a recce with the chance of a run, he'll get more out of it than he would if he was sat in the kennel. Enjoy the night I say, Finn.

Just wondering if many boys on here use a gundog whistle when working the dogs ? I do and find that it gets a far quicker reaction and response than calling or normal whistling, even a very gentle peep and its got their heads up and reacting to command. It's a very under rated tool in my eyes especially when working in thick cover or at distance on windy days etc. They just allow you to give a much clearer signal to the dog and for the price their worth a try.
-
Ratreeper and Digger63, reckon your right, adding more greyhound blood or any good running dog blood would certainly speed the cross up. I think that you need to decide what your going to use the dog for really. When I went for this cross I had had no previous experience with kelpies but had read a bit about them and liked the fact that they sounded very committed and durable dogs with good noses and not short on brains. The ground I work has fields with a lot of quartz, old mine workings, again lots of stone so feet have to be strong. Hedges are full of flailed blackthorn and barbed wi

Ratreeper, believe it or not I've got a Beddy lurcher X kelpie and she is a cracker! She's 22 tts and 38lb last time i weighed her the prey drive in her is unreal, absolutely loves ratting and a bloody good all round rabbit dog, would and has done more. They do have a tendency to be pretty full on but with a little effort are a joy to work, keep you on your toes mind !! Loads of stamina but not the fastest and seem to be made of rubber. My mates got her litter brother and he's pretty similar if a touch steadier !! Got a 2 year old beddy whip/grey and shes a lot slower to mature

This is a great thread fellas, keep up the good work. Lovely looking dogs on here, Mike, your big dogs absolutely stunning, is he out of a kelpie bitch to a greyhound sire and what sort of height/weight is he ? Interesting hearing all the comments on the kelpie cross personality and physical traits they sound familiar. Will try and get some snaps of our kelpie blooded stuff up if I can, pretty shite with the computer still I'm afraid. Look forward to seeing more, lets hope this thread stays with the dogs and doesn't get hyjacked by some personalities bickering. Good health,
