thanks waidmann that helps alot. the pond as such isnt surrounded by trees but has a good high bank around it so i will leave as much of the vegetation on that as possible. i had heard about a call duck so i think i shall look in to this as i really want it to be a success. by the sounds of it i should get stuck in straight away so thank you very much and hopefully ile be posting some progress and success in the future. gossy.

hi all. i was wondering if u could help me with a few issues iam unsure of with regards to my duck pond. i have a pond that is completely overgrown and this season iam hoping to use it so there is a good bit of clearance to be done. when done the pond will be about 40 yards long and 30 yards wide with gradual edges and an island. i cleared a small area of this pond last year prehaps 10ft by 10ft as an experiment realy and to see what can be done to adjust the water level and i had a few teal there for a couple of days but didnt come to anything could this have been due to the small siz

since the beginning of the buck season ive been spending alot of evenings and early mornings stalking and observing suitable areas for bucks with no success at all other than does and young bucks in velvet.on about the 6th trip out i found a nice suitable buck feeding in a quiet corner of fresh grass and decided the shot was to be taken at a range of roughly 120 yards i was shooting of the sticks which iam normally very comfortable with but this time i felt what i now learn from johnrobbos post is called buck fever, weather i was over confidant or lacking concentration iam not sure but the sho

hi all thanks again for your inputs. this 7mmo8 certainly seems to be a good option. my only worry about this calibre is that i have always been told to get a long lasting popular calibre such as 270 308 or 3006. i may well be wrong here but the 7mmo8 just seems a more modern cartridge that could just as easy go out of fashion. how is bullet availability with this calibre?? gossy

thank you for the advice. clearly a 308 is worth looking into and considering. thankyou waidmann i have used a 270 before and have also found it a really nice calibre! anyone any ideas about homeloading this round? gossy

hi all. some advice would be really appreciated. soon to be purchasing a deer calibred rifle.this rifles only purpose will be for deerstalking and therfore maximum range will be 200 yards.although a flat shooting round with good balistics would be nice for target shooting. i have experience shooting 243,25.06,270 and 30.06 on deer and would like something bigger than the 243. my reason for putting this on this page is that i will be reloading my own ammunition for it and was wondering about best calibres and cost effectiveness of reloading each. although i know iam asking alot of i

Sorry to hijack the thread but what course you doing, are you living in? whats the food like and how easy is it to live in cost effectively relating to the course ( needing to take food on trips or clothes etc?) iam doing the nd in game and wildlife management and its brilliant! i do live in and you get given a meal card which has 250 quid on it. the food isnt great but it is edible. with regards to cost effectiveness of the college you can put food for your practicals on your meal card or get it from the shop so [bANNED TEXT] choice and clothes u just need a copule of pairs of work

writtle, hartpury, otley coleges
gossy replied to olim's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
when i got here i was 17 but have now turned 18. i do stay in and enjoy doing so accomodation is good with a room and on suite bathroom. theres two coarses that apply for keepers and thats game and wildlife management (what iam on) and just gamekeeping. based on your gcses you may be in a higher or lower group e.g. foundation or national diploma. it realy is a good college and i think it is recognised as the best in this field which carries alot of weight. anything else you want to no not a problem iam more than happy to help. atb gossy -

hi there i cannot speak about these colleges because ive never even heard of them but i can speak for hartbury and sparsholt as i had the unfortunate experience of havin to work with a newly graduated student from hartbury who was workin as the underkeeper on the shoot i worked at talking to him about this place soon made it clear it ws no good and the fact he got sacked for not feeding the birds because it was raining reflected this! iam currently studying game and wildlife management at sparsholt college and can honestly say its brilliant plenty of practical work ,resources and the lectu -
hi guys. whilst sighting in the rifle today with some new ammo (norma)i noticed that the empty cases had black markings around the neck with sort of streaky lines. i dont no much about this but is this called poor bullet obturation?? if yes could this be the new ammo or a problem with the gun (cz 550)?? and what problems is this going to give me if any?? thank you in advance for any help gossy

my deer management teacher at college uses diesel with bicarbonate of soda mixed in he then paints it straight on and keeps it in a dry place he then paints it again after a while if its necassary. he says it smells of diesel for a while after but i have seen a few skins he has done and they are perfect.

what do you mean by bulk? do you mean thousand at a time or say 5 thousand at a time, because we wont have alot to spend on carts, all our money is going towards my sparsholt savings for accomodation , that and mortgage etc so this is just what tiny bit we have spare. and where is the cheast place for carts? and can you mail order carts? is that possible? alright mate i have owned both and both are very good but for what you want particularly the foxes i would go 12 as i couldnt find any fox cartridges for a 20 whereas theres tons for 12. nice to hear about sparsholt to mate iam
