thanks waidmann that helps alot. the pond as such isnt surrounded by trees but has a good high bank around it so i will leave as much of the vegetation on that as possible. i had heard about a call duck so i think i shall look in to this as i really want it to be a success. by the sounds of it i should get stuck in straight away so thank you very much and hopefully ile be posting some progress and success in the future. gossy.

hi all. i was wondering if u could help me with a few issues iam unsure of with regards to my duck pond. i have a pond that is completely overgrown and this season iam hoping to use it so there is a good bit of clearance to be done. when done the pond will be about 40 yards long and 30 yards wide with gradual edges and an island. i cleared a small area of this pond last year prehaps 10ft by 10ft as an experiment realy and to see what can be done to adjust the water level and i had a few teal there for a couple of days but didnt come to anything could this have been due to the small siz

since the beginning of the buck season ive been spending alot of evenings and early mornings stalking and observing suitable areas for bucks with no success at all other than does and young bucks in velvet.on about the 6th trip out i found a nice suitable buck feeding in a quiet corner of fresh grass and decided the shot was to be taken at a range of roughly 120 yards i was shooting of the sticks which iam normally very comfortable with but this time i felt what i now learn from johnrobbos post is called buck fever, weather i was over confidant or lacking concentration iam not sure but the sho

hi all thanks again for your inputs. this 7mmo8 certainly seems to be a good option. my only worry about this calibre is that i have always been told to get a long lasting popular calibre such as 270 308 or 3006. i may well be wrong here but the 7mmo8 just seems a more modern cartridge that could just as easy go out of fashion. how is bullet availability with this calibre?? gossy

thank you for the advice. clearly a 308 is worth looking into and considering. thankyou waidmann i have used a 270 before and have also found it a really nice calibre! anyone any ideas about homeloading this round? gossy

hi all. some advice would be really appreciated. soon to be purchasing a deer calibred rifle.this rifles only purpose will be for deerstalking and therfore maximum range will be 200 yards.although a flat shooting round with good balistics would be nice for target shooting. i have experience shooting 243,25.06,270 and 30.06 on deer and would like something bigger than the 243. my reason for putting this on this page is that i will be reloading my own ammunition for it and was wondering about best calibres and cost effectiveness of reloading each. although i know iam asking alot of i
