  1. i like collie crosses ,i think that theyre the best but i take the point that some lads are saying, that dogs can be too brainy for theyre own good.but its nice to see a lurcher in the right place at the right time watching the break instead of having some fool of a thing never in the right place when the game shows and ive had them aswell,in the cover when they should be out watching.
  2. i like the sound of that cross i had a similar dog pointer/pitbull crossed with a whippet and i bred him with a springer bitch,i was looking for a hunting dog not a lurcher.dog turned out to be a great dog on foxes, drive any cover and stay on them like a harrier, just what i wanted.so i reckon pointer and bull could be a good mix in a lurcher
  3. interesting thread.if you get a white pup after mating 2 coloured dogs, isnt that just a throwback? simple as? i met a fella on the street and he had 2 brindle terriers, big dogs with big bull heads,i said to him that theres bull in them is there? no bull in them he said! so i just had to take his word for it,the man was in dogs for 30 years and knew his stuff and bred great dogs, but i still believed there must have been bull in his dogs, they looked like half bulls for feck sake.still he was convinced that there was no bull in them.didnt look like it too me anyway
  4. i would say a first cross collie /greyhound for me.as an all round hunting dog is hard to beat.great brains and with a lot of stamina they wont be around your heals after one coarse.they can last the day open hunting so for me thats my choice of dog.
  5. great read there stabs brilliant i heard of that hacketstown jack before ,he must have been some dog.thanks again for hightlighting about the blues
  6. ive always believed that the best lurcher for "open hunting" is the first cross collie /greyhound.just like to hear your thoughts/views on this.thanks.
  7. Theyre was a man from dublin who was at a lot of the trials when they were goin on years ago.he kept a kerry blue and he had every award for that dog except a field trial.as far as i know the dog was never certified.so what i want to ask is,has anyone on this who was at the trials or knows about the trials, ever seen or heard of a kerry blue at the trials?and how did they get on?was theyre ever a kerry blue certified? this is one for the old timers ,thanks.
  8. none of them bitches are from " the dealer" i have 3 bitches at the moment out of "the dealer" dog in my yard, dehoff on here i think has 2 more pups off him as well, the oldest bitch i have off him is 12 months, she seen the end of one dig ,straight in no messing, each day i give her a few rats that i trap on local farms,so far i have given her 123 rats, rats build confidence in young terriers. you cant bate the rat to bring on a pup! he hup!
  9. would you not say an old fashioned kerry sounder ive seen pics of them in the 20's looking like that, but great old footage otter hunting too could be an old blue ahright gonetoearth its hard to tell? i know before fellas used to cross blue and wheatens.they called them '' silver greys". might be one of them?
  10. is that a wheaten drawing the badger at the end? hes a big yolk whatever he is. great footage

  15. lot of snobs on this site, nothin wrong with that dog.maybe some people want ratting and bushing terriers. plenty of ground dogs out there that wont hunt shit in front of them .
  16. your dead right bryan, only hangin themselves.
  17. if a terrier is good in ground or good in the cover it dont matter to me.il keep both.
  18. BLACKPACK, I COULD TALK ALLDAY ABOUT THE HISTORY OF FELL, PATTERDALES ETC........ BUY I TEND TO STICK TO WHAT I KNOW AND HAVE LEARNED MYSELF AND SEEN MYSELF OVER THE YEARS, BEST TO GO BY WHAT YOU HAVE SEEN, THAN WHAT YOU HAVE HEARD IN THIS GAME, I HAVE A VERY GOOD FRIEND WHO KNOWS BRIANS SON VERY WELL, AND I KNOW A BIT ABOUT BRIAN AND HIS BREEDING. BULL BLOOD GOT A LITTLE BIT MORE POPULAR IN THE WORKING TERRIER WHEN THE LOCATOR COLLOR WAS INVENTED, YEARS AGO IT TOOK MORE THAN ONE DOG TO DIG AND HOLD GAME, BUT NOW LADS ARE DIGGING ONE HOLE AND GETTING THERE QUARRY A LOT MORE , AND A LOT O
