  6. i think a staff and springer bred back to a full springer or a leggy terrier would be the way to go, a dash of bull is enough to add the fire.we had a mongrel mixed of whippet, pitbull, pointer x springer, turned out to be a good dog to hunt a fox
  7. why black ??? once you go black you never go back
  8. I just saw on an ozzie site that yellow dog for sale advertised as a wolfhound cross! your right, thats no wheaten, irish wolfhound crosses are very common as pig dogs in oz.
  9. as far as i know the early ones were real blue in colour ,not black, and were meant to be a good dog,but as i say this is goin back a long time before the hunting life computer specialists were even born.

  12. I can't work out why sumone whuld want to do that to a dog I aggree with u mudd don't say much for the man who owned it sounds like he cared what other people thought of his dog more than his dog itself It is called big mickey syndrome,he got his dog certified by cheating, and bad judging(politics was rife back then to).f**k the dog he should have put him down. why would you need to put this on a open forum and muud dog why do you feel the need to reply egos come to mind yous wouldnt be friends with that cooney boy sure he said he wouldnt have nothing to do with the IWTF nows he the chai

  15. Believe me Dev it was not as simple as it sounds if it was every dog would qualify.he was doing full battle head on for that time if he stopped at all he was lifted and he also took a lot of punishment. Some dogs like to catch and pull other dogs(the kind i liked)just jumped into the pot and no pulling just fight(a lot of Cuilleog dogs done that and dogs from Laois)they just wanted to fight fight fight so they got a lot of war wounds.Somebody said on here a while ago trial dogs did not have to be fit they most certainly did if he was not fit he would lay back a bit when getting tired and would
  16. You are getting confused between Trial dogs and drawing dogs. Geronimo made noise on occasion , but was runner up, Dog of the Year in '71,'72.'73 and dog of the year in '74. You must keep some dogs if he wouldn't meet your standard for a drawing dog? Total silence was a way of separating great dogs on any given day in just 6 minutes, a time quick enough to run through every dog in the competition. But not a real test of a dog, gameness or it's real ability as a Drawing Dog in the countryside where it mattered. Don't let rules drawn up by the kennel club dictate to you or anyone what a
  17. your on about wheatens being herding dogs trying to put the breed down ,your talking shit, how many collies have you seen fight to the death?you know fcuk all about wheatens
  18. reminds me of them lumberjack events, trust the paddys to come up with somethin with a shovel,in there element
  19. i have seen a collie/greyhound dive for a rat aswell, and the same dog tried to drown a fox terrier in a stream once in a fight.
  20. my point fatman was that there must be good dogs around if lads are gettin all that diggin, you wont get that with plugs.i think your right about pickin a terrier off the street years ago, thats when money wasnt involed in terriers though.
  21. TM good quality terriers are gone scarce, let alone sounders, and if you have hard ones you dont want i will gladly take them of your hands.I can remember when i started diging first there was nothing to be had only white bodied terriers of different make up,some or most had bull in them while more where fox terrier russellxs then there was the sealyham russells all were good diging dogs and a lot were to ground for very long periods because there were no locaters then,so they were tested for gameness and staying power. Then the black dogs started to creep through in different locations around th
  22. Well, all I can say is that you have led a sheltered life The dog in my avatar is about 1/4 Saluki: a good all round worker. Her dam was probably one of the best dogs I've ever owned: genuine s/h 3/3 hare dog in her youth, excellent lamp dog and top notch fox dog: worked with terriers until she was 9 years old, took everything single handed and can still put in a short day's graft out bushing or beating at 10 1/2 years old. top notch fox dog did she shoot them herself?
  23. best fox dog ive seen was a was a first cross collie greyhound ,whip, killed alot of foxes.feared nothing.
  24. ya i noticed hes always on about cubs, terrierman me hole, more like the little butcher boy.
