my advice mate is not to cull. If you have a enough room to keep a litter of pups keep them. When they reach the age of working start(14 to 18 months),try them all, give them fare law and what doesn't make the grade get rid. I dont no of any one thats bred a whole litter with a 100% working rate, if you have a litter of 5 pups and get two or three out of the litter to work you have done real well.If all 5 work you have cracked it. If you sell a couple to strangers what does it matter. Keep their names and addresses, keep in touch and if their pups make the grade you have something to carry on yo

that dog looks younger than 11 month mate, did you mean 11 weeks. If so mate i lost a load of pups at about that age last year and the vets couldnt find anything wrong with them. If they dont find whats wrong get back in touch, if its simallar to what i had im afraid to tell you, you may loose him.

was supprised reading that mate, with how long they,ve been going now. Not as much as i was mate i nearly had a heart attack. They said this also includes the chipping. You try going to them with a puppy already docked though. You might aswell have commited murder.

But you have loadsa money if only i was a pound behind you mate

Here,s a little spaner in the works. Before i throw the spaner in though, can i just say i agree with the breeding between truted friends and no money changing hands. So that later down the line the favour can be returned and its a usefull way of keeping lines going. But our vets want £55 a pup for docking and dew claws. I had nine pups in my last litter work the cost out of that, what do you do? and no money changed hands.

heres a dog for you -
interesting read guys, im lucky in the fact my terriers work with hounds and im able to run them with them so they pick up that speaking thing quiet quickly. Still i think if you have a dog that does it all by its self runnig a pup on with he or she has its advantages and plenty of encouragement when its happening. It doesn't hert to get excited( vocal that is) the dogs feel it through you, so a bit of yippin and hollarin wont go a miss. I really dont think it matters what color the terrier, they all do it if its in them. atb boys happy hunting

interesting topic, you can handle a fox face on just by placing your spade over the front of his head. Reach in and pull him forward keeping the spade between your arm and his head. Brush wise there shouldnt be a problem or in a net. For those of you who have not been bit you will be, law of average will sort that. Belive me, it hurts. The first time you bit, its showing off, second time its a mistake, third time its someone else's falt, any time after that is because you have NOT gave your quarry the respct he or she deserves. And they will have you, and the pain that follows is un f***ing be

from my experience, if there are both rabbit and fox in the same earth an experienced dog will go to the fox a young dog may take the easier opption. After a few outings though mr foxy creates more of a threat. They will soon change. That is how ever your dogs a pumper.

he must have been very quick or sufferd from lack of feeling in his arms and fingers lol

if you dig down to it properly and have it held behind your fork it dont matter what you use. As long as its humane.

this sounds like a wind up. You cant have done much hunting with dogs. My advice to you is leave it alone or go and learne the job properly first. You come across as an anti on the wind up. sorry if your not but thats how it reads.

No topic really, just to say that our season has ended thankfully. Had a good one dogs and hounds are tired ready for the somer break. Will be wishing we'll be back at it soon. Hope you all somer well.

Cubs about now boys, not into it. Thats my season done, was lucky enough to have had a good one.Dont want to be killing next years sport. Some of you may have to. Out of interest are we all calling it a day now or how long will some of you go on? My dogs will certainly be glad of it. had a long season.

no coicidence mate. If it was xmass time ish or just after they are dogging then, vixen would have been in season and one or two admirers following her. I dont think its abnormal to find six or so together especialy in drains.

jrt first day ratting, any tips?
manspade replied to pitmanuk's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Ill tell you how it is. If it does decide to chase a rat and grabs one, gets itself bit hard and decides is doesnt like it and lets go, theres a good chance the rat wont let go, with the dog sqealing theres a good chance another terrier will run in ripping it from your pups face. One F---ed terrier pup. Up to you -
see what i mean stop hunting F**king rossets

very intersesting. sounds like we are back to horses for courses. I no that the terrier world is not that big, and you can find out most of the things you need to no about a breeder in our relatively small circles. Before buying a terrier do some asking about, most of us in the terrier game have heard of most, and can direct people in the right direction. And if your real lucky you may find some one who still breeds purley for work and doesnt give two flying f**ks for them F***ing rossets. Also Mr reverse ive never met one hounest terrier man who can hounestly say, that when they have enterd on
