  1. Probably just as cheap to buy a kit by the time you've bought all the odds and sods. Dont start your dog til he's 12 months old.
  2. Are you sure it wasnt a Sika....a few of them down our way
  3. I'm probably gonna get myself in a whole heap of trouble again as usual but what the hell......!!!!!! Smaller breeds usually enter earlier than the bigger breeds and bitches sooner than dogs, but I dont run any quarry until the dog is around 15months old and then only if its ready. Then I'll only run rabbits, would rather be late entering and miss a couple of months sport than enter early and spoil over 12 months work with a pup. Wouldn't run longears pre ban until dog was at least 18 months and sometimes waited until around 2 years old. And at least 2 years old to run hornies. Not
  4. I lke the look of the bitch mate... How tall does she stand and what does she weigh in at.....
  5. I thought smithfield described a leggy rough coated 'type'. Possibly from leggy Belgian Cattle dogs around a couple of hundred years ago. Only called smithfield because the droving dogs were used to drive cattle to smithfield. If smithfield is used to describe a strain or breed of dog, they would be so sought after it would be impossible to keep as a secret. Seems like any hairy dog of collie origin is called a smithfield type nowdays.
  6. Didnt even look mate to be honest. What a dope!!!! I'm envious of you, you'll have a good dog there. Good luck with it.
  7. I've had irishxgrey......Fantastic dogs. I found them hard to enter to charlie but didnt do enough and wasnt pushin it either. Couldn't fault them on the big stuff but they have a tendency to run through anything. Wire, hawthorn etc, they have the hearts of lions. You wont go wrong mate. Can you ask the bloke to pm me. I'll have a pup for sure. Thats not a wind up. Was looking for another irish/grey but cant find one. Settled on a beddy/grey/deerhound in the end but I'll definately look at these pups if the opportunity comes... All the best mate
  8. There's some really good advice there. Its interesting that she done this on the way back to your van, what sounds like has happenened is she has realised that she is nearly back at what she considers a safe place. When walking out from home she is looking to you as her leader and protector so wont naturally stray too far but I think she has possibly worked out she is close to the van and so has the confidence to make her own way back. Its not a bad thing, it shows you are giving her the confidence to develop, it just needs to be controlled. All dogs have a point at which you will
  9. I dont think its a good idea to mix up grey and whippet blood. Even mors so if you want to breed to line. The future generations will be all over the place.. Straightforward greyhound is all you need. Not one of those big ugly horrible ones. 26 tts, nice and compact.
  10. I dont like to mix whippet and greyhound blood as I think pups further down the generations will throw to either side and you dont get a consistant size. I tried really hard to breed true from a good stud of mixed blood and it took a while to get consistant size offspring. Why would you want to mix up the breed, just use a decent greyhound to add a kick of speed for now. You wont lose much of the brain. Or maybe a saluki if it was a point and squirt dog you are looking for. At least the litter would be fairly consistant and pure.
  11. I think the way they see it is the person claiming child support is the carer, which is generally the mother therefore the father has to pay..... I went through this with them although they live with me for about a third of the time and I pay most of their nursery fees, out of school activities etc. I get on well with their mum so it helps. If you both agree to a legal joint custody which can be done simply through the family courts the csa cant touch you.....
  12. Dont start giving him treats as it can lead to spitting the quarry or dummy. They come in and expect to be given food so drop what they are holding in anticipation. They are all different, dont really matter what his brother does its what he does that should be your guide. He just needs more time.
  13. He's not ready to be working the lamp or running quarry if he still messes around. Everyone enters dogs at different ages, I tend to wait longer than most but whatever age you decide is right for your dog, not you but the dog, now is not the time. Stop running him at rabbits and go back to basics, i.e. Recall and retrieve. When that is solid then get him back out on the light. Try retrieving at night with the light. And run him solo, being with other dogs can set uo competition. If you keep letting him do this it will be hard to break later when he's older and could also lead to a
  14. If you start to give dried meat he'll start drinking more and no pasta....!!!! Pasta is cereal based which is really a no no.... Raw bones are good too. once or twice a week to keep the jaw strong and teeth clean..
  15. Well said..... I cant believe this debate is still raging
  16. She must have been in season before and this didnt happen.... I wouldn't be sure mate but I do know, although it may not be totally relevant, When my old man used to bet on the dogs he always watched bitches out of season. He wouldn't bother until they were about 17 weeks out as he said they were indifferent and showed no interest. It may just be something that is normal to your bitch. Sorry I cant offer more than that but I'm sure someone will be able to help.
  17. Oh dear.....some of my best friends, and the warmest people I've met are what people call, pikeys, gypo's ect....I wish I was one...... But I'm stuck with gorger....... Know who I would rather be around
  18. hmmmmmm..... construction.......... I'm a time served carpenter/joiner.....6 years as a site manager, 2 years contracts manager for some of the biggest house builders......... Now sat at home with me thumb up me a**e signing every 2 weeks for ni credits............. come back in April 2010......
  19. come on guys ease up a touch she done a wrong thing and hopefully will learn from it constant bickering aint gonna put things right Have to agree........We are all supposed to share a common interest......so she got it wrong......but havn't we all......hmmmmm... Jpt.....if I was you....I'd pm the really rude ones and eat some humble pie.......just another suggestion......then move on.... I'm pleased your little dog is ok....
  20. I've heard that the bitch determines the size of the pups and I suppose to a certain extent it seems possible, but I've also had a pup that grew to a solid 27, he was a big lad too, frow a lightly built 24 inch bitch. I would have to add that he was the only one from two litters and the others were all fairly consistant. Its a complex subject.....little bit above my head when you get into a few breeds in the pot...
  21. I'm rather partial to a nice fresh roast leg of lamb....
  22. Thats a pretty little bitch.....looks handy too.
  23. Dont think its that straightforward but I dont believe the genes of the Dam to be dominant. First cross collie/grey= merle pups, not many merle greyhounds around. First cross beddy/grey= rough coated pups, not many rough coated greyhounds around...... Ok....you get the idea...
  24. I'm in portsmouth, do you have any permission for your dog or will you nedd to run on someone elses. Pup is a bit young for the lamp yet mate, I've got one to train now. He is only 15 weeks so a bit behind yours. I'm not far from you, pm me and we'll see how it goes fella.
  25. Hmmmm.....I forget all those sort of things..... He's 15 weeks.....a tad older than I would have liked but the people I bought him from have looked after him and he's confident and bold so credit to them too..... Certainly a find I'm pleased with......No doubt I'll bore everyone with stories of the progress.......sorry in advance..!!!!!!
