  4. hi . . . i too recently bought a howa 1500 in 223. phoned shop i bought it from they said it was 1 in 12, but on the cleaning rod test i was getting 1 in 9 so i did same & phoned highland guns & they said yes, 1 in 9. they also said all howas new 223s are 1 in 9 now? I have been told i can use heavy grain bullets up to 75 grains? but not used anything over 55 gr yet.
  5. I second the wood touching the barrel. I had 3 runners last time out rabbiting, since checking it with the paper round the barrel it wont fit down the gap so its barrel off & files out for me. mine is also a brno, the varmint model with the heavy barrel & it usually shoots ragged 1 hole groups at around 40 yds. I have had this before on another cz, my 17 hmr American did the same thing on me a few years ago.
  6. yup same here, F.A.O. made me get a seperate cabinet for ammo although my cabinet has a locked compartment in the top, he said it was no good.. [ cheshire }
  7. Hi chaps, my mate has now got one in left hand, he got it from the shop just off the m5 at exeter ( sportsmans gun centre ) if anyone else is after one, thats the place, no one else seems to have em yet.
  8. yeah cheers guys, i know about the benellis in L H & that beretta have never done a LH version, until now ???? i am right handed any way & i also have a 391, wouldnt be without it, my mate has used it & wants one cos he likes it also, BUT hes a cack hander ! Us chaps dont have this problem
  9. Has anybody heard about a new beretta auto supposed to be coming out, apparantly due out now (september) ? A mate of mine spoke to a beretta rep at one of the shows, think it was blenham, & he said they are defo making one, the rep asked the name of his nearest dealer & said he would sort it through him, but he hasn,t heard owt, just wondering if anyone here has heard if theyre out in usa or heard anything?
  10. cheers toby, will do, bought a .410 from them few years ago, seems a good shop, thanks
  11. Does anyone know of any dealers selling "victory" cartridges in the north west ?
  12. Hi all, i have a 391 urika 2 sport, had it a few years, bought second hand, great gun, i shoot better with it than with mt 686, it cycles everything from 28gr up to 56 gm no trouble, even when 3 different weight cartridges in the mag, but certain cartridges it wont fire, lyalvales for example, now i presume they have harder caps in than say gamebore so i would just buy gamebore shells, but if we go claying somewhere & we buy their shells you never know what make they are so i get the problem. Am i right in presuming if i replace the " trigger spring" it will sort it? the " trigger spr
  13. full moon coming up so you will be able to see if you stay out all night? check what time the moon goes down though ! for bait i use a rabbit freshly gutted with its guts spread around, if you cant get a rabbit first, you can use a tin of sardines, i have had quite a few this way
  14. on one of my shoots the farmer had grain feeders out for the pheasants & you always got a rabbit or two from under these & they were alwats full of fat, some of the big bucks had that much fat in them you struggled to see their kidneys but they always made good eating.
  15. I shoot a beretta urika 2 & like has been said quite normal, when i use fiochi shells i notice it big time, nowt to worry about, bit dazzling at night though when out foxing with 3" magnums !
  16. I use a site called "beer labelizer" on the web, i have used it for my wine labels, sloe gin, & damson vodka, give that a look its ok.
  17. Are you sure the culprit is a fox? fox would normally kill the lot?
  18. mine live on mainly shot woodys, plucked & then frozen for later use, they love em, they also love magpies, shot & out of larsens, they have a bit of milk now & again & the odd egg just because they like it. they also get rabbit heads, rib cages etc, bit of fish now and again. What they like most of all though are caught mice, used to have a big aviary & caught loads of em then gave em to the ferretts, they just love em, read somewhere a mouse contains everything they need & is about the best thing you can give them ?
  19. pathetique, get "ENOLA GAY " air borne again !!!!!!!!!
  20. picked up 36 for 40 shots last weekend, well pleased with that, normally can do 3 out of four but we can all have a bad day!
  21. I have just last week picked 20lb plus of damsons & have now got 5 gallon of damson wine on the go. i have also found a group of giant puffballs, about a dozen growing, have had one sliced up with cheese on done like cheese on toast & i have fried the others with bacon & courgettes.
  22. ive been making sloe gin for years & i always leave my sloes til october before i pick them, they will ripen a bit more yet. you can freeze them or not before they go in the liquid doesnt seem to matter. i do (roughly) 12 oz sloes, 8oz sugar per bottle of gin. Damson gin is also good & at the minute i have got three bottles of plum brandy on the go, done in roughly the same way . . . AWESOME !
  23. totally agree with most others, keep .22 and have both, you obviously get the supersonic "crack" from the 17 but if the guns moderated, the rabbits dont know which direction it came from.you can save a bit of money on a mod by using the one off the .22 (just make sure mod is on your ticket). Go for both mate.
  24. thanks for that guys, i think im going for the meprolight, thats what i had in mind already. My o/u has a true glow bead & my auto has a white bead on it. most of my foxing i wait in one spot for them either along side a run or i bait a spot for a while, this is obviously in the dark and if you have no light behind you, you really cant see them beads, im usually under a bush or cover so although you can see charlie you cant see the bead. ive got a 17hmr but im under cheshire and they wont ticket it for fox.
  25. hi all, has anybody got an illuminated shotgun bead on their gun? how good are they? when waiting for foxes at night i cant see the bead too good for taking stationary shots
