If I remember correctly former Tynedale terrierman Paul Hawkes started hunting his own pack of Bassetts before he passed away. Does anyone know if they are still in the north east & who has them if they are? Thanks

I cant believe what I'm reading, surely a wind up? Brenner I find it hard to take you've been into the dogs a while if you're seriously considering breeding from a pup that has done nothing, if you can find a muppet/peddlar that will humour you that is. As said, if you're looking for a pup buy one in from proven parents. Working beddies may be in short supply but I'll bet theres plenty out there being bred from that are far more suitable than your own, dont take this the wrong way mate but if you actually believe in what you're intending you need your head looking at or take up another hobbie -

Most have jobs to earn their living, if you have to subsidise that income by breeding from workers/non workers parading as workers, thats peddling IMO. Folk justifying selling surplus pups to cover costs shouldnt have bred the the things in the first place if they cant afford it. Each to their own but borders especially have been exploited for a long time, its the lads who do gift their pups who will do more for the breed than those who sell them to anyone

If I had a terrier or lurcher that jacked its buried simple as, not bought a pup in years but if I was forced to it would mean a couple of hundred, those dogs/pups you lot keep go for serious money. How difficult would it be for you bury a dog that you could earn you thousands even if it had jacked in private?

Its easy for a topic to sway off course, if you lads had ur own section & someone went on & started an argument then its blatantly obvious they just intended to cause bother so its dealt with easy by a mod. Why would someone 'help' by putting a complete stranger onto a litter of pups? Money mate.....be very wary of what your buying, I was told of a couple of working border dogs that were doing a job being bred from. To what bitches I dont know but I seen both these dogs fail one day & luckily we had a dog as backup to get the job done. I spoke to the owner of one of these dogs at a later date & he was unaware his dog had walked, he was adamant it was no failure & had breen bred from numerous times as a worker. I can sympathise with your annoyance Baw, but as for Lucas ,though I have not seen him run myself, a couple of respected. experienced dog men, whose opinions I trust have and they rate him a very good animal indeed.On some land a lot of decent dogs can make a catch or two,and flatter only to deceive when they are on other ground where the quarry is either turbo-charged and straight lines them.or there is an abundance of hedges and drains for them to throw off the dog and pipe into.
