  1. I know that bit of land in the video quite well and it was a very safe shot indeed. As john says taken off a very tall drainage bank so a very good angle will have been achieved. Keep it up john. George
  2. Thanks for the comments i've cleaned up the skull and mounted it. He's got some real nice pearling on him and is a nice dark colour although both of these dont come across aswell in the photos as in real life. George
  3. Well had another couple of bucks booked with john yesterday evening and this morning. Anyway we went up to his land at pickering last night and sat up looking over a bit of freshly cut silage to no avail. There was one roe that we thought was a doe but john wasn't 100% sure as although it had not antlers it looked to potentially have predicels (spelling?) but it never presented a shot so no matter anyway. However it was a very late night as we had to get back to johns then I had to get home from there and I wasn't home until 12.10 and was going to be up at 3 and my head didn't hit the pil
  4. Thats a bit of a monster i bet you're over the moon with him. George
  5. Yeah john please post the vid i think most people will struggle to pick a whole in a video of a heart and lung shot at only 110m from a high seat. George
  6. Well after two failed attempts to bag a buck for my birthday in the past week (once with john and once else where) I finally got lucky today. It wasn't that promising a start as just as i arrived at johns the winds that were forecast and had been all to present last night picked up out of nowhere. With a quick change of plans we headed off to a bit of ground closer to johns that would be a little more sheltered than was planned. We arrived at the ground and left the truck and proceeded to stalk an area where john had seen a couple of bucks in the last week. The plan was to have a look
  7. Okay well i've done a small bit of decoying in the past but to no real success never having had more than 30. So i fancy doing a days guided pigeon shooting but dont know where to begin. does anyone know of any one offering guided days in yorkshire? any ideas will be appreciated. George
  8. Pardon? would you rather I went shot it badly so it needed a second shot giving it a second chance? or should I have gone after it with a spud gun and plastic spoon? or more likely run a dog on it on land I have no permission to be on?
  9. Well John let me know he had some late availability for some stalking this week so I stuck myself down for an evening as I thought I was due a successful stalk as I had had no success on the first 3 stalks with him. So I got to his house just after 2 and we set off to the ground he had been successful with this week already having had 3 does off it but he assured me there were plenty to still go at. Anyway we were at the ground just before 3 and set off. It wasn't the best of starts as just as we set off the farmer came along in his tractor moving his cows from one field to another. Anyway
  10. Might not be what you want to hear but if i had £3500 to spend I would go sako, tikka or blaser, stick a z6i from macleods on top and still get change out of your budget. I have a t3 in 6.5x55 that can clover leaf at 100 yards with an S&B 8x56 so if it was a 18x mag I wouldn't be surprised if it put the all through one hole with factory ammo. Now thats a rifle that can be had for less than £750, stick a £1400 z6i on and a nice mod at about £200-300 and you've got the best part of a grand to spend on reloading gear or shooting or a custom stock if thats what you want to do. I know what
  11. Sadly a paid stalk but at reasonable money and with a really nice guy. George That estate is a bit of a gem, 4 stalks and 3 beasts on the ground and had I been a week later on the only unsuccessful stalk I could have had several deer on the ground but only bucks were in season I am loving my gap year though as im getting 50 hours in a week so can afford a bit of stalking George
  12. Well this morning finally came and I was out stalking again and had been looking forward to it since my last outing non stop. and I do like stalking at this time of year as it was a pleasure to be going stalking and only have to get up at 6 to be there for 7 with time to spare. Anyway Ian came out to see me and it was still dark but I moved my kit in to the landy and we set off and drove to the spot where we were to be stalking from and arrived as Ian realised he had forgotten his binos but fear not for it was still dark so he drove back to his house (less than 2 mins away to grab them and we
  13. Did mine back in September and its a good feeling to have it done. Well done George
  14. I have shot 3 pheasants that have been genuinely over 50 yards so far this season but not by much. 1 have been 50 hards high it took 2 barrels as first didn't kill it but second did. 1 was a 50 yard crosser folded with the first barrel. Finally was one that was touching 60 yards and was folded with first barrel and actually shot yesterday. I dont claim to be an exceptional shot by any means but for me the last was an exceptional shot and I would not normally shoot that far. Now this is using a 30g 6 Eley VIP through my 25 inch barrel churchill so im not one for 'heavy artillery' and I personal
  15. Well After my success last time and getting my first fallow i booked to return to the estate again. Anyway i got a text from Ian yesterday saying it was forecasting heavy fog did i want to call it off. Anyway I'm one of those people who always thinks 'what if' and because of this i couldn't bring myself to cancel the outing. Anyway i woke up this morning to find an extremely heavy frost (took over 10 mins to defrost car) but no sign of fog at home at least. Anyway I went on my way and got to the estate where there was a light mist but by no means too much and Ian was relieved and so we set
  16. As was I dont worry and no, that was with norma ammo and it does the same with prvi and put 3 through the same hole in a 10 shot group they are more than up to the job and i think if i had more than 8x mag and could be 100% sure of same POA each time it would put them all through the same hole time after time. George
  17. Maybe i wanted to fire and inch high and to the left It was just a group fired before adjusting zero after switching ammo G
  18. Tikka T3 s/s is a cracking gun out the box. I have one in 6.5x55 3 shot group at 100 yards: George
  19. Thanks I also hope its the first of many and that'd be a nomad smock. Not a cheap bit of kit but i got a 'deal' (still not f**king cheap ) on one. I was meaning to buy something gortex and more like a coat such as harkila but heard good things about them and as I just discovered Privi ammo does 3 shots touching in my tikka i didn't need to spend over £300 on some RCBS reloading kit I felt flush and treated myself Was out in it today in the rain whilst presher washing for 3 hours (constant rain) and stayed bone dry so it looks good on first impressions. Its dead comfy but i would say it
  20. I took the shot just in the 'kill zone' so to speak and that was where it struck. I assume you are talking about the game dealer marking it down? if so it wont be a problem to the estate as its all goes to the "boss's" table if not bought by the client. George
  21. Well after going out o this estate a couple of weeks ago after a buck of some description and only seeing does (but loads of them) I booked on to be back when the does were in season. So today I was up at 5.30 and set off. I was at the keepers house on 6.30 at the dot and off we set. It was a quick drive in the defender to the woodland and off we set. The wind was strong from the north so we stalked around the the woods. After 5 mins we turned the corner to see a roe doe melt in to the woods. So off we set again and, as we got to roughly where we had seen the doe she appeared from cover a

  23. So far have seen 5. 2 in late september, 1 on saturday and 2 yesterday. George
  24. RIght I started the thread on SD and i fully admit i jumped to conclusions on this. However when you come on and see someone posting pictures of roe does shot in september at night and the poster has such broken english I assumed it was someone from eastern europe or the like lamping deer illegally. As soon as I was informed that clint does apparently have out of seasons permits and the same for night shooting I sent him an apology on here for jumping to conclusions and you know what they say about assumption being the mother of all f**k ups this is a prime example and i wont be so quick to bu
  25. My FEO didn't insist on it and is a very decent chap to deal with and he would grant me most things i ask for its just i am new to stalking and it was recommended to me by several very experience stalkers as a new stalker. I had stalked perviously and taken several beasts and it helped me out to have done it. I would recommend it to people looking to enter the sport and no offence taken George
