The plate in question is 10mm thick .........It is part of my portable swinging backstop that can have a total combined thickness of 36 mm The holes are made by a .243 at 100yds ..The slash marks are my .223 at 180 yds showing around 2/3mm penetration ........The .243 penetrates 8mm at this distance as indicated by the low single shot on the far right . Ned kelly would'nt have stud a chance :11:

Went out the other night .........the firing point was a hatch cut out of the roof of a landrover specifically for this purpose making the firing point around 7' off the deck . The rifle in question is a Tikka M595, .223 S/B 8 x 56 and T8 mod being fed a 50 grn hornady v-max homeload which is .5" high at 100 yds and spot on at 200 yds confirmed by a recent outing at Bisely Anyway 7 foxes were shot in total with 5 being retrieved on the night and the others by dog the following day .Only one responded to the call and was taken at 75 yds with the others being taken between 150 -200 yds .

I bought some now .............thanks for all your help

Take yer lens cap off On another note .........I've been doing this for years and if you can get within 5yds of a rabbit ditch the rifle and use a house brick  It's called scope Glare ..........or unwelcome light being transmitted into the lens as i call it .......generally from behind .........Moderator glare is another issue and that comes from the front or light reflected back in off a large T8 for example .

Good shooting Fellas I agree Rob ,If you only get one then it's a good night if your passionate about what you do .......Beats sitting indoors
-
I suppose I had one so as not to suffer the consquences if questioned about shooting the odd pheasant when out shooting Woodies ............All in season
-
The example I looked at was the same all weather version and looked great from a distance but on closer inspection it needed a bit of TLC /finishing off here and there .........What put me off was how fiddly the mag was to load in to the rifle and eject .........Could see my self losing a few of those when out lamping at night Got a CZ Varmint instead
-
Cheers Incidently I have two of his paintings on my living room wall ............Prints mind you

That would make a good whirlygig Paul ,save you having to use your fence mate .........What range did you take the beast which looks a good trophy ? Welcome aboard BTW ,Like the number plate

You cheeky bugger, i am a riflesmith Dead ive has probarbly hit the nail on the head, i should have read the post properly and realised it was a big mod. Easy test, grasp the rifle by the pistol grip, and with your other hand, slap the underside of the stock, if it needs floating, you will feel the wood knock against the action. ..........What you trying to say frank  ...........Yep that's a good way to find out baldie Makes you wander how the SMLE (short mag lee enfield ) was renown for accuracy and still is even though it had a barrel band clamping it to a wooden stock
-
Am I correct in assuming one of these mods is a T4/8 ............If i am correct then I went through exactly the same thing when a T8 was fitted to my .223 m595 and i can say it's very demoralising after spending nearly £300 . I cured it by doing the following ...... The extra weight caused the floating barrel to touch the stock ,you might think it's still free floating with the mod fitted but once fired the harmonics can cause the barrel to hit the stock creating stock hammer ............for shooting off a bi-pod it's surprising how much material has to be removed to alleviate this ,

look like you had a good day Ian

Hi Fella's Now I have a Deben 400 Pro mounted on my scope .............Ideal then i had a T8 fitted .......Now I get a annoying glare in my sight picture .........I have even fitted a muffler which really as made no difference . I was wandering what tricks you solo lampers use when out in the field to overcome this
-
Blimey If you needed a tripple extender then that grass does need cutting Good shooting

Lads I'm after a set of digital powder scales and don't really want to spend much more than £50 .........I am currently using a friends RCBS Range master so i would like something similar if possible ..............Any ideas or options ? Thanks Ivan

Thanks for the reply varmartin ............Do you find your scope returning to it's original zero after 47 clicks ,I 'm right in saying that both yours and varminters scopes have pretty fine cross airs ......Unlike my smidt good for night shooting but for 1 hole targeting forget it .keep up the long range stuff ...to have the facility to take 700 yd shots on land takes some beating ..the most i can achieve is 200 yds ....heres a photo Tikka m595 ,t8 mod and 8 x 56 s/b -

A serious piece of kit Varmartin .....Not much change out of £3000 there  ..........Is that a ballistic program data or in the field observations and if so is the round doing what it says on the tin so to speak .........It's amazing how much a 10-15mph affects certain calibres over 100 yds never mind 700 yds -

I take it to be the tree cover and hedge line that is being refered to here ...........Photo's can be decieving but paying out that expense on them set ups would mean you would'nt blow it on taking one stupid shot I imagine . To the 2 Varms What are you zero'd in at ? How much holdover are you allowing ? What are you allowing for wind ? Are you using compressed loads ? AND What Glass and reticule have you both got enabling you to take theses shots ?.........And yes ,I am a nosey Tw@t ...........Just curious that's all -

I can see by the way you laid them out that you have respect for your quarry ....well done woodya On a personal note i fell out of love with the .22lr and went back to FAC air rifle as I walk about alot but from a vehicle there is no finer tool for the job imo
