    like everyone says ignore the arrows for the most part, espically when you getting close to the dog. as with any system i takes a lot of practise to get used to them and when your a bit stressed with a terrier underground it's never the best time to practise. The D1 doesn't have arrows and works a bit differently to the other avalanche boxes, but it too takes a lot of practise to get the hang of. i'd say master the kit you have. The Ortovox S1 box seems a bit better for finding a dog or dogs, but we're just testing it out at the minute and it wouldn't be a cheap option Bryan

    with the B+F or Ortovox systems the numbers can go crazy because the box is taking and up,down,north,south, east and west measurement everytime the numbers change. They can get confused by fast movement. if the dog is flying backwards and forwards or twisting around quickly, the numbers will fluctuate, wildly! with a bit of use and experience you'll know exactly whats happening, wether the dog is just digging and pushing on or is coming under a lot of pressure and needs you to get the shovel moving. if you find yourself coming down to the left or the right of the dog often, then extend you

    qualifying at a trial though and being agood worker were not and are not the same thing, sure a small stumpy one could sit in holds and even hack away for 6 minutes but thats not the same as pulling a few from a pocket on a days digging. Bryan
