No one could argue that technology hasn't led to a loss of skills* *Except Neil, LOL

What a sentiment. nowadays in Ireland it's more common to hear young lads refer to Badgers, in a derogatory way as "Pigs" spitting out the word. I'm not sure a legal sport like in France, where you'd hunt with skill and understanding a dog would hold as much attraction for some. Bryan

Interesting Find This Season...
Bryan replied to Rabbit Hunter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Them wankers back then didn't have a clue. A lot of them didn't even have broadband. Like you read old reports of rescues and after hours of lying quietly on their bellies listening for a bump or knock in wind and rain they'd enter a second dog? What a bunch of jokers, didn't they ever hear the rules; one dog, one dig, no sound, upload a video? Even the locators back in the day were Analogue! WTF? Who enters a dog without a triple antenna 457 kHz digital transceiver? We know way more than them, we learned it online, the hard way.- 105 replies

Did U Ever Hear About The Man Down The Road
Bryan replied to foxbolter's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Problem with that man, is the line usually dies out. -
an interesting read http://www.earthdog-runningdog.com/explosive-digging/

General are you dropping "digging dogs" into undiggable places for foxes?
-
If you need a saw, a hammer just won't do. I've been out plenty of times were hounds have put foxes into the base of cliffs and into rock quarries. It's fine to say bolters are failed digging dogs. But if you walk away from foxes in undiggable spots with your terrier, isn't your digging dog a failed bolter or rock dog? There was a good thread on here about Rock Dogs, who on here has stood by a pile of rocks with their dog down amongst it and cursed a bolt??? Or sat for a few hours or longer in wind and rain delighted their dog didn't bolt? It's all good if all your digs are digga

H J C K ? What a joke! Surely all that matters now is Gameness! I read it here all the time. Pace, footing, turn, strike and pick up are all historic terms surely. All you need is more gameness more bull.

Anyone looking for great houndwork don't ever go to a joint meet. In 30 years with hounds I've never seen a great joint meet, I'm sure it can happen but I wouldn't go there expecting it. I've seen joint meets with packs that individually were close to flawless but didn't combine. One single hound can have a big impact on the balance of a pack. When a pack is hunted all season together and season after season hounds will look to each other at different times within a hunt. To throw 40+ hounds together and expect balance? It's usually a cluster fuxk, they might settle late in the day, b

Oh, sorry I forgot. You should come on here and slate the breeder and line as well.

Keep it in a kennel till its 14 months old. Then take it out. Take it to an occupied earth, you'll know in your gut if its occupied or not. Then its got to find, fit and stay till dug to. One dog, one hole. Otherwise shoot it and start again. It's how we roll on THL

Bull Terrier, Im Buying This Dog To Hunt With!!!
Bryan replied to grittyfeist's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
If you take a few bull terriers, breed them for a few hundred generations, for nothing but work you'll end up with APBT's. Save yourself the effort and get what the bull terrier coulda, shoulda, woulda been. -
Mine reads in feet. I downloaded an App. from the Apple store it's brilliant. .3 is a foot .6 is 2 foot 1 is 3 feet. 1.8 is around 6 feet. the only thing is I can't covert it back to meters now!!!

My dad always had a diesel car when i was growing up and my uncles, I've only ever had diesels, my brother is the same. There's no need for petrol cars. People shouldn't use petrol cars there's no need for them, I can't see the reason for them, or turbos! Why can't we all just be the same?

Nothing prevents wounds from healing like an infection. Using anything but Saline on an uninfected wound would delay or prevent healing.

I put this on here before but it might be of help to some Where to start? Start at the basics i suppose, prevention is better than cure. You have no control on what’s going on between your terrier and its quarry, but you can control many other things around a dig. The less pressure you put on the quarry that’s been dug, the less it exerts on the terrier. Keep noise to a minimum, don’t poke into the pocket with a bar to often before opening up. Keep all other dogs well back and when you do break through make you’ve kept the base of the dig neat enough that when you break in you don’t cover
