  1. Couple of knocks but that’s it . It’s too bright and too flat and the hounds and rays just aren’t playing ball the rays looked like we’re switching on right at the death . I had a bite that took line but I didn’t connect and then my mate had one but as soon as he put it back we realised we were getting cut off so we grabbed the gear and set off to the other lad with us and he got one as we got to him . The gully behind was rapidly filling up so he just wound it in fast , grabbed it and we got his gear and waded across the gully before he unhooked it . We’ve fished there a lot at
  2. Nearly an expensive day out . Was adjusting the stupidly awkward brakes on my reel and the rod slipped out of my hand and into the canal , I dropped down and just managed to grab it before nearly £500 worth of gear sank out of reach . Managed 2 jacks so far but no perch

    Hobbies

You should sell them , they look good and there’s a fair few quid to be made from custom lures .
  4. The rivers are fcuked and it’s not going to get any better till either something happens that forces the government act or a court case forces the companies to stop which is unlikely at the minute as they are pretty much protected from lawsuits . When the government had a chance to stop the discharges they decided to go the other way and allow it including the outgoing chairman of the angling trust , sir Charles Walker -mp for Broxbourne . He has decided to step down now he’s been named as someone who voted to allow it . The environment agency are also useless and can’t be trusted to police t
  5. It would be chaos trying to charge them for millions of people who live in heavily built up areas in terraced houses or flats . Not everyone has a driveway or garage to park overnight to charge them and most of the time I can’t even park outside my house anyway so unless you struck lucky and some random person half way down the street or round the corner who also doesn’t have a car will charge it I’d be stuck . Even if they said you had a designated parking spot outside your house what would happen to multi car households and where would visitors park
  6. On the canal after perch again today . None of us could even manage a wasp but I did get a few jacks including this half decent one that put a proper bend in my little 4.7ft s-glass bfs rod

    Car washes.

Used the Asian one in great Harwood a couple of times , think it was a fiver and they do a decent job . Also tried the Eastern European one in Rishton once and the fcukers managed to take about 40mm piece of the lacquer off the passenger door and didn’t say nothing. Only saw it when I got out of the car at my mums 10 minutes later so couldn’t prove it was them and it cost me just shy of £200 to get sorted . Back to doing it myself now
  8. Back on the canal after perch today . Blanked at the first spot but we found them at the second . Had 2 decent ones and a wasp and this bream that took off like carp . My mate had 3 decent ones and a Jack aswell
  9. To be honest I don’t know . They are classed as coarse fish over here and come under the coarse season but that’s as much as I know . If you ever get a chance to have a go over here take it . They are a good fighting fish especially when they get in the current with that big fin up . The hardest thing with grayling is trying to get a decent photo , they are a bit lively and you can end up looking like you’re trying to juggle a bar of soap when they start .
  10. Yes , the rivers i fish are full of them , especially the Calder . They can be an absolute nuisance if you go down with a maggot feeder , they will be on your bait as soon as you put your rod down and are a pain for deep hooking . I like catching them on the float though . Last time I went trotting for a couple of hours I had about a dozen in amongst the dace and chublets and 4 were over 2lb . I try and get them on lures now if I can . Don’t get as many but it’s not as hard as you’d think
  11. Yes , sometimes on the float and also on the bfs gear with lures like that day . There’s loads in a few local rivers and are usually not hard to catch except on that day , they just weren’t having it . There was a couple of people on the stretch that day and unusually nobody had one
  12. Didn’t get the grayling I was after but missed a few hits and had 3 out of season brownies . The river was up a bit and pushing through and also a bit more coloured than I’d like but I wanted to try my new rod otherwise I wouldn’t have bothered staying

    Pet hates.

People who hold their phones out in front of them on loudspeaker or just put the bottom thin end of the phone to their ear with the top of the phone pointing away from them but still have it on loudspeaker . The 4 people who live directly down the street from me who for some reason would rather park outside my house rather than their own even when there’s nothing in front of their own houses .

    Pet hates.

They are the same people who slow to less than walking pace when turning off anywhere and also anchor on every time a car passes on the other side of the road when it’s dark

    Pet hates.

Harnesses on lurchers, greyhounds and whippets is starting to annoy me the more I see it . It’s getting more and more common round here to the point where it’s more common to see an harness than one with a normal collar .
  16. If I use a braid to braid shockleader it’s normally an Albright but the braid to flouro leaders on my bass and bfs outfits it’s a 4 turn water knot , it’s a smaller knot than the Albright but still strong . Tried the fg but it’s a pain to tie at the best of times and even worse if you need to do it on the beach
  17. It was one with Andy slack on the saa channel . It was one of the better vids on casting I’ve seen . He said pretty much the same thing about slowing it down . He said he counts 1 thousand 2 thousand when it reaches the top and then hits it . When I didn’t think about it was when I made the better casts but as soon as I started thinking about what I was doing and trying to focus on specific parts of the cast the distance dropped
  18. I should keep watching that saa vid before going casting just to make sure I’ve not forgot something . Still coming inside the tip too often also occasionally turning to hit it too soon and losing tension but I’m getting better and starting to understand why the cast went ok or why it didn’t and what was done wrong .
  19. I’m ok with swapping hands to reel in with the reel up the rod , it does take some getting used to when every other fixed spool and multiplier I’ve got is left hand wind but it’s not too bad once you’ve done it a few times . This was pendulum casting with the reel down and using my left hand on the reel and right hand up the rod but still casting from the right side . I’ve never tried it before and only noticed it when watching pendulum casting vids and none of them ever mention it , they describe everything else but not that they are using the left hand on the reel . They’ve probably been do
  20. Just been out for some quick left handed practice casts and didn’t do too bad . When I got the timing right it went a fair way . This was one of the better casts with the mag on 4 because of the head on wind but there’s not much left on the spool . According to the specs the reel takes 200m of .40 and the braid .42 so some of them casts must have been 150ish
  21. I’ll bet it takes some getting used to with a fixed spool , I can see the release being trickier
