  1. nice work mate. those whippets look AWESOME!
  2. this happen to me a couple of weeks ago. Some dopey twit had two rotties and a great dane in the local park. The rottys lined-up my whip pup and chased and chased her. the owner had no control of them and was telling me to keep my dogs still so she could control them. My whip was so shit scared she kept running from them. I have the owner a serve and she said that her dogs were only playing, not at all the case. It ended well enough but it could have gone either way for sure. i always say it's the owners issues not the dogs. those dogs haven't been taught the boundaries of what is g
  3. unless you dog was on their land or your dog was supposed to be on a leash then you'll be fine. Anyway, they won't take your dogs away. Probably a little stressful now, but in about 2 weeks you'll be laughing about it with your mates.
  4. mate, i run my dogs in fairly open country. I will also run them in the bush. The day the last one passed, i was in an open paddock that just happened to have a stick in the wrong spot. (RIP Franko)
  5. All this bollocks about thin skin really makes me laugh, I have whippets because they suite the ground i hunt on and the quarry i persue. Yes you notice cuts more on a whippet because of there short coat. I was recently down at Banbury at a mates for the weekend i took Vixen my fawn whippet, she hunted the storm bushes for at least 2 hours (something we don't get where i live) and there wasn't a scratch on her although there were plenty of thorns. It wasn't as if she wasn't working either she caught a few. We went lamping too with barbed wire etc and she never got a scratch. Probably just me b
  6. i've got a couple of whips. Great fun breed. I have no doubt that they'd work as much as you'd outlined. The issue that you face with whippets is that they has soft skin and if were working them that much you'd need a lot of thread for your stitching. Of the three i have/had, i'd say that they get injured 1 in 10 hunts over a couple of hours.
  7. do you mean going for a run ie- jogging for 4 + miles without stopping or running rabbits etc? i was talking about jogging. i hunt my dogs three times a week, but i haven't taken them for a run yet.
  8. As long as that you think? They are running with this guy, I know he thinks he is fast but to a dog, won't be that quick and he is only running 1.5 miles. I reckon 6 months should be fine to go out a 1.5 mile jog, no problem. If it's too much you simply stop or just take him out the odd day. I'd be surprised though if the dog actually runs all that way without wanting to stop and sniff everything in sight. That was why I was asking if they were on a lead. i have no issue with taking a dogs for a long walk, i walk my dogs from 1 - 4 hours at a time. they are 8 months and 1 year, but I'
  9. when they have no knuckle left. 1 - 1 1/2 years.
  10. i've got a couple whippets, greatest little dogs. You'll have a lot of fun. In about 6 months you'll want a second to keep it company, and so you should. As this dog hasn't worked, be really careful about obsticles with this dog. when you get it chasing, they can run blind, that is chase the rabbit and not look what's between them and the rabbit. this can be bad for the pup. my advice is to get this dog used to running through obsticles as much as possible before before you take it hunting.
  11. mike, great shots. what type of camera did you use? when my dogs get running i could never get the camera out in time and if i did they'd never look like that.
  12. geez those borzois takes some big hits in those runs. And that music is the worst i have ever heard!! Here's another photo of allgame's dogs. hope he doesn't mind me puttn them up.
  13. here's mine at the same age 3months. she's 5 months now. great dogs whippets. (that collar didn't last)
  14. Here's 1st cross deer/grey of a mate. Great dog, not all that smart but will run all day and them some. Super tough. Seen a whippet/deerhound before, another mate has one of those. It smokes a hare or a rabbit and then keeps running. (these are australian dogs)
