  1. the lad who owns the hound is after getting rid due to a break up with his ex partner and can no longer look after it.he has asked me to try and find it a new home so im trying to get a bit of info on them.the dog is apparently from working stock and was bought from working kennels, but unfortunatley thats all i know about it at present.i would have probably put a roof over its head but i have no kennel space at the moment and as i say,i have no knowledge or have never seen these dogs work,so i couldnt honestly answer any questions asked about it.so i thought i would put up a post and see what
  2. just wondering if any of you lads/lasses out there either own or work bassett hounds.a lad has a one,a bitch about two year old.im not clued up on these dogs and would be greatful of a bit of info on them.what can they be used for ,what type of quarry ect cheers in advance col
  3. i was out fishing last night with a couple of my mates, ive came home this afternoon to find a litter of about seven or eight kitts .ive got my fingers crossed these are ok as ive just lost another litter to the jill eating all of them.i was pretty pissed off to say the least, but the jill is only a season old and it was her first litter, i will keep you informed of their progress
  4. john-b had his ferret to the vet last week due to a blockage in one of the ferrets breasts which got infected.he took the kitts with the mother and all were fine and the ferret was treated

  8. im just waiting for my two jills to have theirs.there will be allsorts of different colours amongstthese.the father is pure albino, one of the jills is albino aswell but was bred off a sandy hob to albino jill,my other jill is a sandy ,bred to the same hob.ive also got my mates jill here with young.it was also bred to my hob.its had a couple of sandy kitts and i think the others cold possibly be black eyed whites
  9. its hard losing ferrets.i lost two good jills last season and i was gutted BUT they were collared up!! i cannot understand why you need to ferret this time of year.if you are a full ime pest controller i could understand or if you needed food for kitts, but why go out knowing theres a possibility that youre going to get lay ups all the time due to there being baby rabbits in setts AND not use a ferret locator.if youre ferrets meant that much to you ,you would have bought a locator and collars regardless of cost and wouldnt have even considered going ferreting this time of year unless it was

if you want any kitts brimmer give me a shout.ive got both my jills ready to drop soon.both have been bred off that good hob that done the buisness for me last season and theyre looking fat as pigs.it also served john-b's jill.she had eleven in total but unfortunatley a few have died so she is now left with five
  11. i dont like it personally, but i would normally just feed it to the ferrets.but its that time of year again and most of the ducks are either sitting eggs or have young i thought it better just to release it rather than kill it,its always there for next time
  12. i was out yesterday with the pup and the old lurcher.i had a walk round my local lake with them .there were a number of people fishing so i decided to take th dogs round the back of the lakes onto the fields so they could have their excerscise.i let the dogs off just after getting past into the trees that surround the lake.the old lurcher went straight into the trees and flushed a mallard.the pup was straight onto it,it chased it into a stream, took a leap in and came back out with his prize.funnily enough the duck didnt have a feather out of place.i ook the duck from the pup, threw it up and it
  13. heres mine deerhound/greyhound x collie / greyhound

  18. hes coming on a treat mate.he's as keen as mustard already.i take him out with the old lurcher bitch all the time and he's following her everywhere.he's seen a couple of rabbits, one the old dog bushed a couple of weeks back and he was straight after it.i didnt want him to run it but he was off his leader at the time it sprang out of the bushes.he's also seen the odd rabbit on the lamp which he showed interest in.he will be took out with the ferrets once the season comes back in and see how he goes from there
  19. a couple of pics of the pup,now four month old
  20. up to six weeks . but stubby has a valid point, you should gather as much information first before you think about breeding
  21. heard of garden centers selling them to moronic people for seventy...yes that's right 70 pounds and more a local pet shop near mine does exactly the same.they will buy them in for three quid each and sell them on for fourty quid each and people are willing to buy them.they also sell heinz variety pups for over a hundred quid and cats/kittens for eighty.so if people are willing to pay fourty quid for a ferret from places like these, twenty quid is a small price, and at least you have a chance to see what the parents are like before spending youre hard earned cash when you buy from a genuin
  22. im pleased ive got halfies for stud fees
  23. it could also be due to the time of year.my hob has gone down to skin and bone and is hardlys eating.if the hob is complete like mine is its weight loss is normally caused by breeding condition.mine has just fathered eleven kitts to john-b's jill and hopefully he has done the job on my two jills.just keep an eye on it mate,if youre still not happy with him seek advice from youre local vet
