  8. it could either be one of two things i think. 1) rabbits urine.if yo notice once you squeeze the urine out of a rabbit once it has been dispatched it has got an aroma of its own.i think that rabbits "dribble" as they are moving about much the same as a rat or mouse does.this could be one answer.as the rabbit is entering the sett or being chased to ground.the rabbit dribbles.the dog can pick p on this scent and give yo a positive mark. the only other thing i can think of is that they have scent glands in there feet.much the same as a dog.when dogs foul, wether it be rine or the other they w
  9. chances are they are just under the she itself and haven't dug beep burrows .have you been smoking crack again john ,that didnt make a word of sense
  10. im considering building a one after ive done my new kennels and runs.i will be building a two storey court which will be 8ft by either 4 of 6 ft,depending on space.the ferrets will be in this all day and put back into their hutches in the shed on a night time to stop the theiving scumbags round here from pinching them.if i build it i will post some pictures up of it.
  11. well in lads.im looking forward to our next outing, and youre right about the bloody midgies.myself and john were away on monday and got eaten alive.we were both covered from head to foot in bites.both of us are still lopping now off the little blighters al the best mate
  12. im in the market for a couple of 25 yard long nets.myself and a good friend of mine have recently been given some more permission which holds some huge rabbit warrens.in all my years of ferreting i have only ever used purse nets but i have made the decision to make the move and get a couple of long nets especially fo these larger setts.what i need to know is what is the best value for money long nets on the market at present, would i be better off getting the nets in 4z material or something heavier just to prevent tangles and also to prolong wear and tear.also will i need to buy specific poles
  13. my first lurcher was a collie /greyhound which i got when i was 14.she came from an rspca shelter in newcastle.the dog had been severley badly used.the two lads who owned her before i got her had tied her back legd behind her head and beat her to within inches of her life.there was an ongoing court case and it made the papers.the two lads were sentenced and stopped from keeping animals for life.i got the dog when she was 1 1/2 years old and she wouldnt trust anybody.i can still remember seeing her in her kennel at the animal shelter and falling in love with her over the other lurchers that wer
  14. dont push the young dogs.you said the terriers are 4 1/2 month and the whippet cross is 5+ month.the dogs are still too inexperienced and are far from being developed or mentally mature enough.they are still pups.let them do what pups do.they have got a whole working life ahead of them,so dont go ruining it now all the best with the dogs
  15. there is plenty about mate.the dog is only 8 month old so he is still young and has got a lot to learn.i will give him credit,he never stopped working,he marked setts really well ,he was hunting up well and chased every rabbit that was flushed or that we managed to bolt in the vecinity of the dog.he did manage a mixy rabbit but i dont count those.he has learned quite a bit off the old dog and im pleased he is making process by himself now.
  16. i forgot about that white eyed thing we lamped.its still got me beat what it was.i honestly thought it was a stray ferret or a stoat
  17. my word john...hahahaha.i dont know how they have the neck to spout utter garage."rabbit VERMIN pest control",leave youre ferret and get off.i kill humans.shoot them with a gun .not everybody is an expert marksman,so some "vermin"could easily be injured and run off and suffer, but thats ok to them, as long as it has been shot . these people really make my blood boil.i felt like smashing the computer in anger.those two lads handled the situation very well in my eyes,as john said, that fella with the camera would have been dropped like a bad hait and stuck down the hole i was about to back fill ,
  18. well we had a good day apart from being eaten alive by blood sucking flies.we started off having a good walk round our new permission to see what it was all about and get a feel for the place.we only took toby and bouncer with us and left the ferrets and nets in the van .i was well impressed with the place, and i dare say im speaking for john on this but we have fell on our feet .after seeing a few rabbits here and there we continued our walk round.we were walking along one of the last large heather covered fields when bouncer started having a good sniff about,a rabbit was sitting and decided
