  2. been back in with the sandy ferret this morning.let the three of them out.i removed the two albinos and just had a one on one with the sandy.i took it out the cage without the use of the gloves and it wasnt a scrap of bother.i brought in the house for ten minuites for it to have a look around.i let the ferret loose on my arms to have a good smell and give it a bit more freedom.i buried its head in my arms and was having a go at scratting at my jacket.i was laughing a bit at one point.it took my finger in its mouth..tasted it and let go straight away,no teeth marks or nothing.to me this is a st
  3. my old hob is showing signs of coming in already.luckily its the only one that is.speaking of early pregnancies.i was ferreting in early january last year.the ferret was a way for a good while.any way to cut a long story short,my lurcher retreived two baby rabbits live to hand that had bolted from the sett i was working.they were that small they got through the meshes of the nets.i was in total shock on seeing this and put the ferrets away for the season.the winters we are having are too mild and have got nature all to pot.even the blackbirds are starting their annual sing along now its not g
  4. cheers for the posts everyone.ive been keeping and working ferrets for a good number of years and i like a bit of a challenge every now and then just to keep me on my toes.ive had a few wild cards over the years and a few have been a lot worse than this.i can remember one in particular that i found living under my garden shead at my old house.i dont know how long it had been there, and it was just by chance that i stumbled across it.at the time i had a border terrier.it was used to my ferrets and loved being out with them.on this particular occasion it found a couple of holes around the shead w
  5. well done mate....you must have those ferrets spoiled...giving them robinsons orange juice.....lol
  6. been back on with the handling of the sandy today and i was well suprised.i went in kitted out with a thick pair of gloves on expeting the worst.i didnt need the gloves after all.the two albinos came straight to hand,i removed them from the cage and put them in the spare that i have.then i thought to myself is it gonna have a go or not.well.....it didnt.as i was holding it loosely in my hand i removed the gloves.it was looking about to see what was going on but never once turned to nip me.i put it in the spare cage with the other two and cleaned the cage out.on doing so i put the food in the c
  7. haha, ive put up with our lass for the last thirteen years, this ferret is tame by comparison to say the least.....(shes gonna love me for this....lol)
  8. to say im going to need it is an understatement kay, lol.luckily ive had ferrets like this before and by the end of it all theyve turned out to be pussy cats, and ive got its youth in my favour,so all should be well........i hope, lol
  9. just accuired a sandy hob today off a good friend of mine.hes been breeding thm for a couple of seasons now and has far too many.ive been looking about for a short while now for either a polecat or a black eyed sandy ready for breeding with my albinos this coming season.i went to see him today and make enquiries about them.after a conversation he told me to go and have a look at one of its brothers that he had given to one of the youngsters around the corner from where i live.on saying that ,i left and went for a look.after speaking to the lads mother she let me in for a look, she said it was
  10. as long as they are kept out of bad drafts and dampness they should be ok.dampness is youre main concern, its one of the biggest killers of ferrets.i normally house mine in the shed duing winter just to keep dampness an draughts off them.before that they were out in all weathers and they were ok
  11. what you are saying are two different things once a ferret has killed its rabbit then yes if leaves it and hunts for more rabbits thats a good ferret in my eyes its down to you to mark the spot where its killed and dig the dead rabbit out .but if you are saying the ferret has one in a stop end alive and leaves and won't go back to it then thats not a good ferret. a situation occured today while i was out.myself and john-b were working an eight hole sett.after entering the ferrets the jill came back out.the dog was watching one of the holes with anticipation and we were expecting a b
  12. youre opinion please.where do people come up with this quater greyhound five eighths beddie seven tenths labradoodle.surely the genetic make up of a dog cannot be determined in such a way that anyone can break it down into a mathematical figure, unless you are a scientist.imo, its like saying, ive got a dog,its rear quater is sausage dog,its front quater is rottweiler, its got the right ear of a beadle and the other belongs to a shit shu.where does all this come from and would someone care to explain.cheers

    Dalmatians

They are thick, no instinct no brain just like our lass apart from she cant run and hasnt got as many spots
  14. thats what I suggested but we don't understand where the rabbits are during the day, if they are in their burrows surely the ferrets will flush them out and the cover isn't that thick so the dogs should move them, either that or our ferrets are no good the ferrets are up for the job mate as you know by last week, the jill wouldnd budge til it bolted those two rabbits out of the set ,and you know it wasnt small or shallow.i just think there is very few rabbits on there now and what is there are above ground as we seen with those three today.it might be better off being left alone for
  15. i think the patch has seen better days now mate.time for pastures new.for us to see only three rabbits in a woodland the size of that is telling me to leave it alone.im getting ready to put the dog in the bath as we speak, the badger crap shes been rolling about in has got the house stinking, lol
