  1. My point was...people can tell someone something, disagree with someone, and even dislike someone without resorting to threats/bad language/rudeness and ignorance. I certainly will appologise, as i am becoming more and more embarrassed at the way so called fellow hunters conduct themselves. Wether you like it or not, it is a relection of hunters/forum members in general, since the only people replying to posts now are those who want to start an argument. My first ever post on a hunting forum about 10yrs ago was judged as being suspicious, i had never even heard of antis so did not real
  2. Nice one mate, good footage. Would be good to get some more before the season's over – feels more like spring every day now.
  3. Anyone know where I can get hold of a copy?
  4. Vid's come out well mate. Roll on the weekend, we'll have a long night out with a decent breeze hopefully.
  5. A 24" whippet would do the business on the hares, but it wouldn't be allowed to compete in organised whippet coursing – too tall.
  6. Despite what a lot of people think, some of the top coursing lines are still around, and you can see them in the show ring. Up until the ban some of the top kennels would regularly be winning coursing meetings and show rosettes. Coursing whippets were usually finer than the Mike Brown-types (got nothing against them by the way, brilliant at what they're bred for), and definitely smaller TTS than a lot of the whippets you see these days. I think 20" was the limit under coursing rules.
  7. What an absolute crock of s**t. Sensationalist ill-informed journalism at its worst.
  8. Yes mate, white truffles. Absolutely delicious. The boys I know out there used to make a tidy living smuggling them across to Italy during the communist era. If I remember rightly the black truffle season in Istria is in summer, with the white truffles found in late autumn and early winter.
  9. Went truffle hunting in Croatia a couple of years ago with the old boy in the pictures. Not sure what the dogs' breeding is, but they had incredible noses. One was quite terrier like and the other more like a tiny spaniel. The best truffle dogs change hands for thousands of pounds, and they get stolen frequently. The dogs in these pics earn their owner about £20k between October and December, the main truffle season. We went out for a couple of hours. It was good fun, and we had an incredible meal afterwards with some of the truffles we found.
  10. There's a whole thread on Bigland Boy and his offspring here mate: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index...showtopic=62342
  11. "blue caught 2 while still on the slip lead" Right place, right time. Weird how both those rabbits ran straight at you.
  12. Stillwater wet: blue flash damsel, dry: daddy long legs River wet: gold head hare's ear, dry: klinkhammer, mayfly, sedge
  13. With all the snow we've had here, which is taking ages to go, I haven't been out for over a week apart from short daytime walks, and cabin fever was definitely setting in. So last night, a mate (Paid off here) and I decided to go for a shine, despite the full moon, the patches of snow on the ground and the incredible amount of rain we had yesterday – nearly a month's worth in 24 hrs according to the news today. Thankfully we know a spot which is quite hilly and on sandy ground so it drains well, and against the odds we had a really good night. Even though it was full moon, the cloud
  14. Some of the crosses you mention seem pointless, but Bedlingtons can certainly run, so a beddy/whippet or beddy/grey is a logical cross.
  15. Sonny, 2 years old, 19" tts, fast and keen.
  16. Had a day's grayling fishing last week, and it was bitter. Ice forming in the rings, and fussy fish meant continual changing of size 16/18 flies with numb fingers. Had a couple of fish though, one little one and a cracking personal best of 1.5 pounds. Got this shot of the little 'un on my phone.
  17. Was wondering where you say this litter advertised? Here you go mate. http://www.epupz.co.uk/clas/viewdetails.asp?view=233324
  18. Just seen a litter of sloughi x lurchers advertised. Anyone ever seen them work, either pure bred or lurchers with sloughi blood? As I understand it they are originally from Morocco and are bred for similar work to salukis.
  19. Hello mate, good thanks. Getting out a fair bit and enjoying it. How are you doing?
  20. Racing bred whippets are usually smaller and more lightly built than working bred ones. I know which I would rather match up with a fox.
  21. Morning all, new on here. This is my first season out in the field with my whippet. We've been doing a fair bit of ferreting and lamping. Got a lot to learn but we're having fun. Cheers.
