  1. Agreed. My whippet is showbred through and through with lots of Oakbark blood (never been shown though) and he's turned out to be a cracking little rabbiting dog.
  2. From their homepage: "We want to see an end to greyhound racing, hunting with dogs and irresponsible, excessive and casual breeding." Think it's fairly obvious what their agenda is.
  3. Most pet insurance includes a third party provision, for example if your dog runs in the road and causes an accident you should be covered for any damage caused. I take your point about more unenforceable legislation, but I understand why they want to do it. There are a lot of knobheads out there with potentially dangerous breeds who use them as weapons, and it's getting more common.
  4. I agree it's a kneejerk reaction, but to be fair they haven't said what they are definitely going to do, this is just a suggestion, and they are talking about microchipping and compulsory insurance, not neutering as far as I know. My dog is microchipped in case he gets nicked and insured because vet bills are so outrageous, so there's nothing there that feels like an attack on me.

  6. Unfortunate name for a coursing dog.
  7. never seen a bull cross that could catch a good winter daytime hare, and if it did by some misfortune;the hare running into something:it would be eaten before you could get to it,but all the butch tyro hunters will all be off to the fens now you've told them where they are, bull crosses are not running dogs, they're fighting dogs Yeah, because it was a secret that there are lots of hares on the fens and now this guy's let the cat out of the bag.
  8. Hope you find him Holly. Am going to cross-post this to The Whippet Forum, hope that's OK.
  9. Cracking looking dog – hope it works out for her.
  10. The ban was brought in under the guise of animal welfare ,but it was effectively class war, which you seem to be doing your bit to keep alive Joe. The Ban has actually made little difference to fox hunts ,and they have increased their membership. If you dont think the ban has affected coursing men ,all I can say is you don't do much of it. Recently two people were in court for attending a coursing meet one is a well known tv personality and a QC, the other is a Knight of the Realm. You talk divisively Joe, and we know what happens when forces are divided, they get conquered The "Red Coat
  11. Think you might be on to something there mate. Had a good night last season running on patchy melting snow with a full moon. I guess the rabbits really need to load up on food after a few days of snow, and as soon as the thaw starts they are all out catching up on missed grub.
  12. I can't stand this country any more I'm sick of all the immigrants and the big brother crap, were looking into going to New Zealand. It breaks my heart whats happened to my county, labour government, never mind voting them out they should be shot! Oh the irony of that statement Glad someone else saw the funny side. Even funnier was the bloke who thought he'd get less hassle from Old Bill if he was black. Get real lads. Immigration has got nothing to do with the crackdown on hunting, but if it gets too much you can always go and become an immigrant yourself eh?
  13. Regardless of what you think of the Welsh blokes, the political agenda of Countryfile has changed drastically in a short space of time and is now firmly anti-country sports. It's going to make things harder for all of us, law abiding or not. This is a summary of an episode from 2008, lifted directly from the BBC website, so not that long ago. "John Craven is in Holland to visit the world's largest flower market, which is busy with the build up to Valentine's Day. He also ventures into one of the last truly wild areas of Europe - just on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Adam Henson meets th
  14. They sure can mate, that's what they are bred for.
  15. Why not? They are very similar to salukis and plenty of people run them over here.
  16. They won't be short of stamina, that's for sure.
  17. Well said mate. Not knocking MB's dogs but they aren't the be all and end all. Here's mine, three next month, and no SS blood.
  18. Hope you have a good night lads, and come on the Vixen! Show 'em what a good whippet can do!
  19. She's looking really well mate. Which magazine are the shots for? Will have to keep an eye out for it. Sonny's just starting to settle in to the season. Had his first ferreting trip at the weekend and done a bit of lamping the last couple of weeks. He had one of the best runs and catches I've ever seen from him on a golf course last night so am optimistic for the season.
  20. The last bit might be changing soon though mate!
  21. My sentiments indeed, infact this cross could throw a decent versatile dog in the right hands, the poodle is a very intelligent breed of dog , in France and in other European countries they are still worked, a dog of this breed i should think would have a excellent coat, decent feet, plenty of brains, it woul suit somebody who likes rough shooting/ wildfowling, mooching, ferreting, and it would certainly have enough pace for lamping, the trouble is nowadays alot of lads prefer point and aim dogs, and they can,t be bothered to train dogs up to a decent standard, and they prefer a dog with what
  22. That's what I thought, although as Paid said the saluki may not be pure. If it's got a bit of grey in it already you'd have the gene on both sides. Still don't think a pure saluki x greyhound can be blue.
  23. Just seen a litter advertised on another site. Supposedly saluki x greyhound. One pup is black and white, the rest are blue with white chests. Never seen blue saluki/greys before. Are there many about?
  24. Good call. Jack is the name of ASD's dog I think.
