Change the record Whin. I think everybody knows by now that you don't rate whippets - you never miss an opportunity to remind us.
-
It's also difficult to keep a rabbit in the beam for more than a couple of seconds due to the contours of most courses.
-
You've not had whippets 2 minutes Gallagher and you think you know it all, you couldn't even make a name for yourself in coursing the scene with your saluki crosses, all you are trying to do is BIG UP your stud dog sonny. Most of the forums you go on you spoil the topics with your tunnel vision and lies. Not everyone is out to make a name for themselves, but breeding a Forley Cup winner isn't a bad place to start in the coursing world. There are quite a few pups out of Sonny out there, but money hasn't changed hands for a lot of them. I understand why Brother wants to run JG

I hear there will be quite a few of these mythical working whippets gathering up your way soon Brother.

Terrific photographic record of lurchers and hares doing their thing. Limited edition of 1,000, not to be reprinted. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330533466236&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

how to keep weight on a working whippet
Sonny Brindle replied to eddie jones's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Lamb/mutton mince. -
Very bright but a much wider beam than the Striker. OK for short to medium distances, but the Striker is better.

Any news?

saluki greyhound cross whippet greyhound

I don't believe this myth that whippets have poor feet. Mine's never had any problems, nor have any of my friends' whippets. Thin skin yes, poor feet no. -

What a stupid insensitive post. Good luck with getting the dog back Matt.
-
No harm in giving her an easy run or two - just take it easy on her. From my experience – and I've heard others say the same – whippets can take longer to mature than other breeds/crosses and probably don't start reaching their full potential until they're about two, so be patient and you should be on to a winner.
-
Wondering about putting my whippet dog to a first cross saluki whippet. Has anyone seen a 3/4 whippet 1/4 saluki? Would make cracking rabbit dogs I reckon, with that little bit more wind than a pure whippet.

Here you go mate: http://www.lurcherlink.org/llink/forum/index.php And definitely worth contacting these people too: http://www.doglost.co.uk/add_dog.php?status=Lost

Will keep my eyes peeled down my way. Remember admiring that litter on another site, really hope you get the pups and the old gal back.

Don't have any vids but never tire of looking at this pic:

He is mainly Oakbark breeding, a line which has lots of Dondelayo and Samarkand behind it, so probably very similar breeding to yours. 19.5" TTS. And all the characteristics you've described fit mine too – he is four this month and is much quicker to strike now than he was in his first two seasons. He's never going to be the world's greatest working dog, but he's really good fun to watch when running well, and a very easy dog to have around. With regards to Sean's comments about knocks, been lucky with him so far. A few cuts and bruises but no major issues.
-
I think most whippets will catch rabbits if given the chance, regardless of breeding. Obviously some are better than others, but most have quite strong prey drive. This is mine, pure show breeding, in fact his grandsire was Crufts supreme champion.
-
Has it got any Merlin/Eve in it?
-
Occasionally run my whippet on a football pitch like that – rabbits are like rockets. About a 2 in 10 catch rate on there so not for beginners, and need a dog that's very quick of the mark.
