    Thanks for your replies guys. I'm much in favour of leaving it be as long as it's performing OK. I'm happy with the external treatments for the wood and the metal, but the internals I'll leave to someone who know's what they're doing.

    I appreciate your honest reply. I'm shooting at a gun club where the "innacuracy" of my springer compared to rim-fire rifles will no doubt show in the Christmas competition. It's not a serious competition but I'd still like to put a reasonable show so I want to do whatever's best for my gun. That and to make up for my shooting skills being a begginer.

    Hiya, I have a 3 month old Weihrauch HW97K which has had approx 1000 to 1500 pellets through it. I have had very contradicting advice i.e "you need at least 1000 pellets through it then the barrel gets lined with lead making it more accurate" and the opposite of " you must clean the barrel to remove the lead so that the rifling remains clear." Also, how often and what do you think should be done to clean/maintain the workings i.e. spring etc. I read one write up by a guy with this gun who stripped it when it was new saying that the lubrication was poor.     I'm a beginner to shooting myself, however I am a member of a club run by mature gentlemen to be polite, so I asked before I bought a springer, something I was told was that a fixed barrel i.e. underleaver should be more accurate than a break barrel as the main gun barrel doesn't move when cocking the gun. I bought myself a Weihrauch HW97K, with which I'm very pleased, the only problem for me is that the weight of the extra underleaver barrel makes it a bit heavy after a while.

    Hi everyone, Until recently, the last gun I owned was a cheap air-rifle in my teens for shooting at tin cans in the canal. After a little advice and research and a budget to consider, more than twenty years later I got myself a Weihrauch HW97K which I shoot on the indoor range at a local gun club. I'm hoping to get myself a rim-fire rifle, licence and cabinet depending, and hopefully do some outdoor shooting. I'm looking forward to the help and advice of members to further my shooting. Michael
