Same as Pianoman, i have a .177 Hunter carbine MkIII. Its my one rifle and a great all-rounder! As for effective hunting range, thats more down to yourself than the rifle buddy! Practice on paper first at different ranges, and from different firing positions. This will give you a better idea of what you and your kit are capable of. With my combo my max is about 45m on a still day. Breezy conditions, lamping etc the distance comes down accordingly. For 150 mate thats a steal, you will get a great rifle that will last you many a year and do you proud. Kind Regards, Mikey.
  2. I layed a patio for Bill Oddy's brother last month, I'll put in a good word perhaps he could get your book signed Wurz Mikey.
  3. I tend to use German Army surplus flecktarn pattern. Its cheap, very good quality and works great on the land I shoot. especially late Summer, Autumn and winter when the colours are turning. I would say fieldcraft is more important than camoflauge although you you cant really have one, without the other! Regards, Mikey
  4. Nice write up Davy, always enjoy reading about members outings. Cracking shot also. SPA Kind Regards, Mikey.
  5. Cheers Steve will raid the fridge in the morning Also got a rabbit to split open, so hopefully that and the eggs should do the trick. Mikey.
  6. Good shooting lads especially the maggie, orrible nest robbing feckers, hate em. Weather depending Im out tomorrow afternoon after the corvids. Mikey.
  7. That's the Lightning Tactical mate, a break barrel springer. The Ultra is a short carbine PCP. Regards, Mikey.
  8. Cheers again lads, Hopefully they'll keep coming Tony! And hopefully I'll keep putting 'em in the bag! The TX does have a bit of weight about it Nick, but for me this is a bonus in a springer It soaks up the recoil a little and for me, I find it easier to keep a steady sight picture. I use a sling when walking between 'hot-spots' so find the weight isn't an issue. Regards, Mikey.
  9. Cheers Bill, Yeah, plenty of land to go at on there. Hoping to have a go at some corvids over the weekend. Just need to dig my crow decoy and crow caller out and have a good think where to build the hide. Mikey.
  10. Hehehe I was wondering if it would get mentioned Im in the ongoing comp of Hunter1989, I didnt have a pen in the Landrover to write date and time etc . So put yesterdays paper I had lying in there as date verification!! Mikey.
  11. Cheers Buster I love my TX. It just seems to fit me like a glove. I use it for all my shooting, hunting, plinking and HFT (which it outscores many PCP's at!!) There are just a few mods I want done though. Mainly a tuning by Sandwell Field Sports, it shoots great out of the box but hey, why not have it fettled a little??. I also want a one piece scope mount and a silencer adding. Cheers Clint, The younger of the two will be tea one night this week, Its soaking in salt water as we speak!! Curry done in the slow cooker I reckon Regards, Mikey.
  12. Hi All, Had my first outing on a new permission this morning. Arrived prepped my kit and checked zero. Started off on a stalk into a stiff wind. I really couldnt see any rabbits as they blended into little reed patches really well and bolting off when I was near. This happened three times before a change of tactic was called for. Ambush!. I holed up in a slight hollow of the ground up wind of a decent sized burrow that looked well worked. I waited 30 odd minutes before a decent sized bugs came lolloping back in from the fields. I gave a squeak of my lips before it got to close to its warre
  13. Sounds like its performing well, best of luck with it. Mikey
  14. Good shooting Owen pal. Mikey
  15. Cheers Lads! Yeah Si, with that leaf in its mouth it looks like its marinading itself for the pot Hi Phantom mate, I did think about traversing round, but the little bugger was right in the corner of the ground, but thinking on a standing shot would of been an option Cheers for the advice, will get him next time Regards, Mikey.
  16. Hi All, Went out just after midnight to my cricket club permission. I wasnt expecting big things as I am starting to get on top of them now, having taken a fair few over the back end of summer/autumn. They are also getting shy of the lamp, so will have to buy a red filter when I have some spare funds, either that or knock one up. Started the usual way, signs on any entrance to the ground informing pest control was being undertaken, also my mobile number on there. I checked zero, spot on thankfully, and started off. It was a frustrating start, after locating at distance I would swit
  17. Fair play to you Si, its good to see you being rewarded for your hard work! Best of luck to you buddy. Regards, Mikey

  19. Lovely shot mate, straight in the sweetspot! Had a day with a friends HW100 last weekend and must say I loved it! Well balanced, super smooth mag indexing and deadly quiet! Kind Regards, Mikey.
  20. Sadly there are to many videos like this on You-tube, people who just point and shoot cosidering any hit on vermin a success. I hate rats........ I mean really HATE them (shudder), but any hunter worth their salts should take PRIDE in a clean, humane dispatch. I stopped watching at 50 secs in, the bloke just doesnt have a clue. All the gear no idea springs to mind!! Mikey.
  21. Yep same here would be bang up for it. I have started doing a fair bit of HFT, and have found it has increased my marksmanship. My range finding and wind estimation has improved lots. There is also a lot of knowledge at the club I benefit from. It has improved my shooting in the field also, making me more comfortable to take longer shots in less ideal conditions. I agree its not for everyone, but it has worked wonders for me. Kind Regards, Mikey.
  22. Good shooting mate, bloody rats, hate em! 'orrible little things! Mikeyblue.
  23. Hi Mate, I use a Nikko Sterling on mine mate and it seems to do the job just fine. Thinking of putting my Hawke on over winter as it has an illuminated reticule which I find handy when out lamping. It all depends on your budget mate. How much you looking at spending? Mikey.
