  1. Been to a local gun shop today to stock up on ammo for my rifles. Bought my usual 55gr for my .223 (1:12 twist) but I also bought some Federal V.Shok 40gr Nosler Ballistic Tips, going to try them out on paper soon. Just wondered whether anyones used these before and any comments, and will they fly well with my twist rate?
  2. Some nice sticks there Ade. Here's some of my grandads sticks he makes, some have been carved from rams horn and some from buffalo. Theres a pheasant crook, carved pheasant head, adder (one solid piece of rams horn), wild boar, a leg click and a buffalo crook, roe buck, woodcock and a snipe
  3. My foxing rifle: Howa lightening 1500 stainless .223, Nikko Sterling Sope and Wildcat mod I also have a CZ 308, Browing .243, CZ .22, Beretta Ultralight 12g, BSA Boxlock sbs 12g and a Baikel o/u 12g
  4. use thin threaded bar with some strong glue, solid as a rock
  5. just bought one; a 6-18x50, gonna put it on my .223. It was only £92 reduced from £235, bargin i'd say
  6. I made my first stag antler thumb stick a couple of months ago under the guidance of my grandad who is a very good stick maker. I'll try post some photos of the work he's done.
  7. As above, has anyone had or got any experience with these scopes?
  8. Do you have to send your certificate away to get it opened up, if so, is there any cost?
  9. false.....all depends on the land you shoot and the feo and what you shoot rifle and animal (thats what my feo told me last week! as i asked the same question. Can you expand on the requirement speedystu?
  10. Thats what I'd thought, the 75 being too heavy. I know its all about shot placement, but would the heavier bullet not have an advantage or would the 55gr take roe down easily. does anyone on here have experience shooting Roe (Scottish obviously) and/or muntjac with .223's?
  11. BASC are sending my gun back to me along with a written description of the problem plus the experts conclusion. Should I go back to the gun shop where I bought it and sort it through him or should I contact Escort direct myself? I forgot to mention earlier, I have had the gun almost 2 years would this reduce the chance of a successful challenge?
  12. I've only ever shot roe in england and with a .243, but if a 55gr from my .223 with be adequate for roe in scotland then Im laughing, thanks
  13. While out wildfowling season gone I had an incident with my semi auto, on a morning flight I shot a goose, and there was a very loud (louder than usual) bang after I pulled the trigger, the goose fell stone dead but after lowering my gun I found one of my 3 1/2" gamebore shells stuck in my action completely mangled. Cut the long story short, the bang had sheared a piece of my action clean off Obviously I was very concerned to contacted BASC and their experts examined my gun and ruled out a faulty cartridge, it'd had been a fault with my gun which is/was and escort (I know there at the cheaper
  14. Im off to my local Firearms Dealer soon to stock up on .223 rounds; I have a howa stainless with a 1:12 twist and it shoots 55gr prem accutips at foxes for fun but I'm gonna be going for roe in scotland and possibly munty later this year so I was wanting a heavier bullet for this. My FD has some 64gr and 75gr in stock, but will I get acceptable groups with a 1:12 twist? Obviously I'm to buy both and test myself but if someone knows for example the 75's are too heavy for my rifle it'll save me a little money. Cheers, woolly
  15. Whats the rifle/scope combo mate?
  16. Im from millom, have my own run larl shoot but I go loading/beating at Greythwaite and Underleigh (not quite sure of the spelling)
  17. Im live in south west cumbria, Millom. Im only 1hr 20mins away from campus so I might drive everyday yet but I need to do a number crunch to see whether staying on site but be better financially. I dont know yet, wouldnt mind going but its whether I could get the day off work.
  18. they've got a really good set up and I'm assuming you'll be staying on campus there's an armoury you can take your own gun, they have kennels you can take your dog (I was told these get snapped up really quick) hutches you can take ferrets. They have a pheasant/partridge shoot on the estate plus a large lump of woodland for your stalking modules.
  19. Let me know how you get on. Oh, have you been up (down for you) to the Campus for a look round?
  20. They gave me an unconditional offer straight after my interview, whether they do that all the time im not sure. I think it has alot to do with your qualifications and the amount applied for the course. They just asked the obvious really, what was I doing currently (Im 20 so i've been out of school and working on a dairy farm fo 2years) but most of the applicants are going on the course straight from school. They ask you like doing i.e Im a part time keeper, stalker, wildfowler etc. Its a really casual interview really, they dont sit there and bombard you with questions.
  21. I went to the open day last month and because I'd taken copies of my exam results/certificates I could have my interview there and then. Its a really relaxed interview, fairly informal. All of the staff have the same interests and passion for the countryside so that makes it loads easier. Just be yourself and dont worry, its a breeze. Im going on the ND Game and Country Management course in september. Hope this helps.
  22. I have the same as Martin, hold 250 and buy 200. Thats on all three of my centrefires.
