Cheers Si, Comments much appreciated.. Perhaps I should have explained more clearly to start with that I knew it wasn't a dog / cat / deer or anything of such a size. I could see the outline of the bird ish but wasn't sure if it was a pigeon or woodcock etc... Just want to make sure nobody gets the impression i'm an irresponsible, trigger happy novice. Rick.

The night I shot the woodcock was pretty poor visability and if i'm honest I just saw the eye in the lamp... I wasn't exactly sure what it was until I walked over and picked it up from some distance away. As it happened though, a guy who I work with had actually always wanted to try woodcock so it didn't go to waste.
