    I aint trying to re-invent the wheel mate, I just thought that if you had Spaniel blood in the mix then you would have more biddability than some of the bushing dogs you see that are hunting 2 fields away. As for a dog bred for the job instead of a mishmash, well thats 90% of lurchers aint it??? a dash of this and that. Ive seen bull greyhounds jib on foxes and smaller crosses take em with ease. Why not put a good hard hunting spaniel to a decent terrier for my own use??? And as for the teaching bit you know what they say.... those who can do, those who cant, teach.

    I know what you mean mate I shouldnt have made it look like i wanted the bitch to finish all the foxes she comes across. I go out regular with a sprocker bitch and she is a demon on them. I was comparing her to her.

    Its probably been discussed here before, but im wondering on your views on a suitable cross to put over my hard hunting spaniel bitch. I want to put a bit of fire into the pups cause at the moment when she hunts foxes she wont finish them at the end of a hunt. But I also want her bidability and stamina and her smallish size. ANY IDEAS????

    Shot a rat last night with my rimfire in my neighbours garden, I measured it and it was nearly 17 inches from nose to tail and fat as a house feeding on chicken pellets. Does any body think this is big or is it average for certain parts of the country?

    It has to be likely not proven. The breeder of the pups has to produce either a gun licence, a permission letter covering pest control, or proof of land ownership. What bearing all that nonsense will have on the pups is beyond me. Fair enough, you can prove that the Dam is a working animal, but how the hell do they know if the pups are to be workers or not? My JRT is legally docked, if I remember later on, I'll scan the paperwork, and post a copy up here just so people can see the bullshit. It's about 10 fecking pages long! Out of interest how much do different people pay

    My springer bitch got bit by an adder last year, took her to the vet he gave her an anti histamine by 8 oclock that night her head swelled up an she looked like an english bull terrier. The vet said some dogs show no reaction at all, some react very bad. What would leave a 2 inch slit ?

    The purpose will be for beating/ retrieving. With the shorter tails you wont have the docking or self harming problem Why try and re-invent the wheel ??

    Theres a good bait out there called eradibait its not a poison it reacts with the rats gut to stop the rat drinking and so it dehydrates and dies. Its a vegetable and grain product, so its safe to use where animals and kids are as it wont harm them.
