If money is tight dont bother with adjustable magnification, ive got it on mine and very rarely use it. Just go for the best you can afford, you will only regret it later if you dont. Swarovski, zeiss, docter optics etc you wont go far wrong. For lamping get one with a large objective lens.

Gamekeeping assistant ?
FightTheBan replied to jackdean1230's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Apprentice keeper job in shooting times this week. Put you through college and give preference to 16/17 year olds. Job is in east Devon, go out and buy a shooting times and send away a CV asap, these jobs dont come up that often. All the best -
I do it all mate and am against nothing country sports related. Whether its digging, ferreting, lurcher work , lamping with dogs or gun, beating or out with the spaniels and shotgun i do it all. Have even been known to fish

anybody else finding more than one at home?
FightTheBan replied to bluedogge's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Was out sunday morning, sun was out early and nothing at home but we seen 4 foxes, both were in pairs so i dont know if it was coincidence or if they are showing interest? -
Both bettinsoli diamond and lanber sporting are good value for money guns and do the job. Personally i would go secondhand and get a nice wee browning. Thats my opinion though. I use a baikal o/u the most out my cabinet (dont laugh!), its a great wee gun and i got it for free. Would make ideal 1st gun for clays and game (i had mine at the grouse keepers day, probably the most scummy set up to be in a butt in history) lol. Just go for what fits you best and dont worry about how it looks.

Get a benelli m2. Simple, reliable, rugged, long warranty. Wont be disssapointed. Same price for 3 shot as a multi shot (iv got an 8 shot), get 5 chokes with it too and can get whatever barrel length you want. Had mine for 2 years and use it alot, never needed to strip it to clean it, just pull a bore snake through it, cant do that with a berreta.

Done 134 bolting to shotguns. But i think this method speeds you up considerably, probably twice as fast. Had 49 with purse nets on a different permission. Either way, great fun!

FightTheBan replied to daz280597's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Cant beat day time hares. Truly is the sport of kings. pre ban of course....lets not get crazy -
Thats an obscene amount of money to spend on a family who have no contribution to the economy. Im not just saying that because their immigrants, it doesnt matter, id be equally pissed if they spent that amount on you average every day benefit scrounge.

Just curious as to find out what the oldest ferret any of you have had. I currently have 2 jills (sisters) that are 9 year old. They have had been worked hard and have accounted for thousands of rabbits in there time, still to this day work (only for about 4 hours then they get tired) and one hardly has a tooth left. They were both spayed at about 1 year old so have never had kits, think this season will definately be there last before the young kits have to fill there gap. Look forward to replys

Why would they even group them together, theyre worlds apart. Fekin twats.

For £800 quid you would get a tidy browning or berretta. Id rather a second hand browning than a new bettinsoli etc. Just my opinion though.

traffic coppers on prowl for lamps
FightTheBan replied to pullmeout's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good on the screws for getting some of the scum to think twice. Theres nothing wrong with sampling the game on the other side of the fence, but you have to respect farmers and landowners, or they can give you a lot of shit. I always get permission, ive too much to loose. But theres the problem, these cocks who have nothing to loose and think there dogs are all that give the sport a bad name. People fecking the farmers ground is probably seconded only to digging earths and leaving them open, two things guaranteed to boil my piss. -
It is definately the breeding, you need at least a quater cross, or even more dilute before they can effectively be worked and handled, but if you get a good one, youll know about it, theyre second to none. Personally i wouldnt go there again, breeding good workers to good workers is the way forward, not colour or looks.

I had a half cross wild polecat jill about 3 years ago (it was genuine because i seen the hob, which had been trapped). It was very dark, but ended up getting wrapped round a tree because it was a viscious fecker. Cant see the point in them realy, when theres still lines of good working ferrets available, for now. The jill i had was absolutely awesome worker, would use its nose above ground, choose the best hole then enter. Could work massive sets on its own, was handy to have untill it started skulking and biting, diddnt last long after that.

I feed chapel farm dog food, the stuff made by Davie lisset at buccleuch gundogs. Only £13 a bag, not thats terribly important, but i swear by it.

Keeper on my brothers estate brings two beating at the grouse, very competent dogs and good allrounders. Excellent for counting/beating and can also track deer and do foxes etc. Probably a good buy if you think you are up to the job of training it properly.
-
Mate, what you need is a shotgun lol. I shotgun all my hedgerow/rough ground rabbits, using a team of ferrets to bolt them. if you wait till the cover dies back enough to see bolting rabbits it is not only great sport but very effective. I then leave all the open burys for netting and the lurchers, great set up.

To be honest that jacket doesnt look half as waterproof as the duck dri. I would recomend you at least look at it before buying something else.
-
If money aint the main consideration, google swazi clothing. Probably the best money can buy. That would be my three choices !
-
Definately mk3 mate. Ive used all 3 models to date and theres none of them perfect but the mk3 is leuges above the rest, i would say anyone who says different aint worked with the mk3 or aint worked it right.
-
If that aint to your liking go to www.duckdri.co.uk. The country jacket and trousers you can get for bout £150 quid. Very warm gear, quite heavy, but you can practically swim in them and theyll keep water out.
-
If you go onto this website www.sportsmanguncentre.co.uk there is an offer on at the moment for the musto technichal tweed jacket. Was £500 now £140 !. This is the suit favoured by keepers and stalkers up north in pretty shit conditions 100% water proof goretex etc but also very lightweight Go to specials once your on the site, ive had one for two seasons and you wont be dissapointed.

Lovely jill, bites when working
FightTheBan replied to jusar whippets's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Give her time mate, shes still young. Try not to snatch at her when working and only pick her up when shes right out the hole or else she will skulk. If she likes the carry box try to encourage her out into the open with the box and she should calm down a bit. I had this problem with two of my jills last year, one came better in time and is now an excellent wee ferret, the other got the bullet. All the best -
Ive had loads of digs with my old mk2 box and i never had any problems with it, just as acurate if not more so than the old grey boxes. I will admit though the mk3m with the pinpointer is the one to go for if funds allow.
