It sonds like diet is the problem to me, wet cat food is no good for ferrets as does not contain enough protein and contains far to much water. what else does your ferrets diet contain as this can make a lot of difference to the temperament of the animal??? A dry meat based cat food is much better for them topped up with 25grams of meat or doc on alternative days, you should also add vitamins to their food. Once the ferrets is less worried about eating it will relax around you and will become easyier to handle. When I first sarted keeping ferrets I was told to feed on wet dog food and

Is it just me or has this site suddenly turned into a pest control site????? Stubby (or should I say stupid) your not very bright for a moderator, take a look at the title of this site as i am getting fed up with reading so called moderators stupid politically correct comments....its called .... "THE HUNTING LIFE, YOUR NO 1 SOURCE FOR FEILD SPORTS" YES IT SAYS SPORT IN THE TITLE.... WHAT US TRUE HUNTING LIFE MEMBERS DO .... FEILD SPORTS......NOT PEST CONTROL.....

I asked them if any particular cat food is nessesary but they said any complete dry cat food will do, their is alot more choice when it comes to dry at food so i guess it will be down to your preferance.

I feed mine on james wellbeloved, doc and meat (usually rabbit). But I went to Longleat safari park and got talking to the keeper about the ferrets they had, they all looked extremely well. She said they have stopped feeding them on dry ferret food and have been using dry cat food as they found that the ferrets didn’t do as well on the dry ferret food and did not live as long. I got a diet sheet off them and once my bag of James wellbeloved runs out I will change to a dry cat food. I did find it strange that dry ferret food is not as good for them as dry cat food especially w

I have got 3 jills and a hob at the moment and one of the jills just had nine young, i may keep one or two of them and that should fill up the run nicely. its about 6ft x 5 1/2 ft with the five levels and the run to maxermise the floor space. I like to let the ferrets be able to have a good run around as it seems to make them more active and better workers, a happy ferret is a hard working ferret....

this is my new hutch, not finished yet due to my jill having kits mid construction. The bottom is going to be a run ad the blue tube will link to another section in the garden... each level has a hole leading to the next and they can easily be closed of when ferrets are in sason.
-
If your Jill trusts you she'll let you check them from day 1. After 3 weeks, don't be shy. Handle your Jill as You would normally, and if your unsure, put her in your carry box. THEN handle the Kits. After a week or so she should relax a bit, BUT gauge it yourself. hope this helps.atb Sam Ya, my Jill was having trouble getting the first kit out and let me help her get the kit out the sack as it came out and has been fine with me handling them from day one, but I do give her space with them and I have had a Jill who went mad if you came anywhere near the cage. So it all depends on how e

I have built myself a new ferret cage, I have not had time to complete it yet as my gill had kits (nine in total ) so i am going to finish the rest next week. the bottom is going to be a run and the blue tube is going to the back of my garden in to a smaller run with a hammock. (its a ferrets life lol) they work hard in the winter so deserve a decent home. and a couple of the little ones..

my local pet shop sell lemon shavings, smells nice and the ferrets like rolling round in it and makes them smell a bit better. now my girlfriend doesnt complain about the smell as much, problem solved lol

I have found it hard to bolt at the moment mate; two is good in these cold conditions. The rabbits will stay down as long as possible as they fell safer underground and they lay up a lot deeper when the frost comes. I was out yesterday on a set that showed signs of plenty of rabbit activity and only bolted 3. Your permission looks great mate and noting like getting out on a frosty morning to clear the lungs lol.
