  1. ok thanks, that sheeds new light on what I have experienced with other terriers in the past and seen on the net, this is the reason I asked the question on here. Does anyone else have the same opnion or another view of these terriers? also I would appriciate any advice on how to get best out of the dog and not just the negatives but all advice welcome.
  2. oh right, so in your opnion I shouldt get one then cos they are no good for working in the field other than sending to ground with a collar on and no good for rabbits? Dont all dogs munch ferrets unless they have got use to them from young?
  3. Hi Guys I am getting a Lakeland x Patterdale bitch pup tonight and would like to know if anyone has had this type of terrier and can give me some advice or tips on what I can expect, achieve and use to get the best out of the dog in the feild and in the home. She is going to be used for working along with the ferrets but also a family dog with kids in the house; I have done my research on the net but wanted some experienced honest opinions. I have had many dogs in our family home when growing up but haven’t had a dog for a few years and have my own family now. A pic of the pu

  7. Had a wicked day today, they had a good few ferrets there but could be better. Got some good bargains on the stalls and enjoyed the entertainment but the best thing was sending the missus and my daughter up on the helicopter, they loved it. Very good day and recommend it but wasn’t very busy so hope they do it next year and more people attend. Darren

  9. Im planning on getting out in the next week or so if the weather stays as it is, been for a few walks and no starters about from what ive seen. The farm I work is a shoot and im the only person to get permission on there in a very long time, I spoke to the farm hand the other day and he said its over run this year and could do with me there early so as some of you guys have said its better to show your face early and seem keen. I just hope we dont have a last minute summer as the rabbits could all have a late lot of young and that could delay things, then we will all be waiting for the frost.
  10. Thanks for this post, didnt know about it but me and the family are all going now. Looking forward to it, been on the website and it looks really good. Darren
  11. Really want a bedlington terrier...

  12. Thanks the one, thats all I wanted to know as getting my hob done soon and didnt want to render him usless. Didnt think i was going to get a sensible answer for a minute there....
  13. Does any one know if the hobs still work ok if they have had the full castration?
  14. ha ha, didnt even notice the date of the article. Sorry guys & girls but got on one about what i was reading.lol
  15. What a complete prat, I am so angry after reading this and after his comment about what he would like to do to the kids ferreting, I can only say that this dog walking twat needs to be strangled with that dog lead until he turns blue. Im sure he would also complain if these kids were in hoddies sat outside his local paper shop with sod all else to do. He is clearly the sort of person who is happy to go to the supermarket and ignore what it is he is buying and where it came from but frown upon any body who would do otherwise. As for the mixi comment, this just proves how thick he i
  16. This would point to it being purely a diet based problem, the kits did not have as much roughage as I would normally give as I am moving shortly and didn’t have much rabbit stocked up for this reason. Having looked into the disease mentioned above it would be genetic and diet only a small contribution towards them getting ill. I have always given mince to kits at the early stage and never had a problem before and this led me to believe it would have to be genetically related. Has any one else who has had this problem given kits mince or butchered meat rather than hole carcass?
  17. Having done some research I have come to the conclusion that what you have said above is spot on, I don’t believe I have in any way given them a diet that has primarily caused this but more the case that the gene for this syndrome was present in both sets of kits (due to the same farther crossing with mother and daughter this could just be down to the combination of the genes) but the diet could have been changed at an earlier stage to prevent the damage becoming irreversible. All very well in hind sight you might say but lesson learnt and the book you have told me about sounds like a sound
  18. its ok mate hi jack my thread funny enuff these kits are albino silver x the hob was a silver Sorry mate didnt mean to hijack your thread, hope you got some ggod advice. I have had to put all mine down now, not nice. Hope you resolve your problems with the kits. Darren.
  19. Thanks everyone for your advice, unfortunately I had no choice but to put the Kits down last night. When I went out to them they had all got considerably worse and another had died in the nest. One of the hardest things I have had to do. Killing something you love is extremely difficult. I don’t breed continuously and all these Kits had good homes to go to, they had been well handled by me and my daughter and were real good looking kits. I have gained a lot of experience with kits over the years and have always had good healthy kits that have lived for many years but never experienced t
  20. I have lost 4 kits this weekend; they all started off healthy and the best looking kits I’ve seen in a long time. They are now 6 weeks old and I have started to notice they are not developing as normal, by this I mean they are developing what I can only describe as some sort of deformitive disease. The 1st 2 to die became week and I noticed that there spines were becoming curved; this happened very quickly (24-48 hours). The other 2 just seemed to drop dead with no visible reason but having spent a long time feeding the others yesterday I have become concerned at there develop

  23. I had two litters this year to my two silver jills x my polecat hob from last year. Dont know what colours they are yet but they have had 17 between them. 9 Hobs 8 Jills Looking forward to seeing what they turn out like and I got good homes for at least 12 of them but shouldnt have any trouble with the rest.
  24. Thanks for the advice everyone, I haven’t managed to get any permission yet but have had better response from people than I thought I would. Once I have a bit more time on my hands I have a few leads to chase up. Hopefully I will have some land to shot on soon.... Darren...
  25. Without sounding too stupid I was wondering if anyone had any advise on where I can legally go shooting with my .22 gas powered air rifle. I know I can ask for permission but a lot of land where I live is for shots and no chance of getting permission but what I want to know is am I going to be breaking any laws by using my air rifle in other areas or can I only shot on land I have been given permission on? Any advice is welcome.
