electroplating with what and why? you'll also have to consider that if you do coat the barrels with a layer of extra metal, is that the gun may not work or even fit together as being a firearm, it is made to tight tolerances, so I doubt it would work with the extra material.

ZOS 10-40x50 ESF IR SWAT R19
danebrewer10 replied to Rich91's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
mmm that spec for that money? somethings got to be off. I'd avoid it like the plague, and go for something with a lower spec which costs more if you don't want to spend loads than I'd look at leupold or someone like meopta.... -
no, I think you could hold off a small army with a box of those" I guse Lyalvale or Gamebore 3" 50gm BB does a fantastic job out t0 40m even with 1/4 choke I did a test (LINK) HERE a while ago, so I concluded that you should use the minimum load your gun can shoot, really BB and above, and as heavy a charge of shot as you shoulder can take, you owe it to your quarry.

Anschutz 17HMR magazine
danebrewer10 replied to JonathanKent's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
someone does make an 8 shot mag for the annie an online shop, LINK HERE, they look ok, but they're pretty sharp on the botton edge, TBH, I'm gonna stick with the standard mag, seeing as how expensive they are, so unless the price comes down or anshutz come out with their own, it's 4+1 for me still! -
nice, love the bolt handle and shroud I bet it's a bit weighty? 20" barrel?

oh, seeing as I'm a bit ignorant of these things, why would you want a hand press versus a bench mounted press? apart from possile cost savings?

Buying from the States.
danebrewer10 replied to wanderinstar's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
if you can get it marked as a gift then you don't have to pay tax methinks, as I bought a fly reel spool from the atates and didn't have to pay extra but you're right anything to do with firearms, they're shit hot on.... -
sure there is! how do you think people still manage to find ammo for their 8 bores etc? Hornady make shotgun reloading presses, Dillon I'm sure do, RCBS do them pretty much all the major companies in that line do one I think... what are you planning to reload?

I think the guy who uses the Sako is in Sporting Rifle magazine, I forget what his name is...

plstic or fibre is there a differance?
danebrewer10 replied to air gun ant's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
TBH, at regular sporting distances it dosen't really make a difference, but plastic will hold the shot together for longer versus fibre, but overall, considering the performance of modern fibre cartridges, there isn't that much practical difference I don't think, plus there is an overwhelming ecological benefit to using fibre wadded cartridges over plastic....(ironic considering we use lead shot...) but the advantage to wildlife is there non the less. whether ot not you may use plastic catridges at clay shoots depends on the shoot, I'd advise to check before you shoot, as the one I go to h -
Double Barrell Shotgun(shorter barrell)
danebrewer10 replied to mofitz's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
not sure mate, but on this side of the sea it's 24" minimum barrel length, anything shorter is used for robbing banks -

if you like doing paper work then I'm sure it's possible. IMHO it's really not worth it, once you've done the paperwork, paid the tales, it'll probably be less hassle and cost you about the same to buy it here in the UK -
buy the best you can afford, I shoot with a fixed 6 S&B hungarian, great quality, sometimes I mught wish I had some more mag perhaps 8X, but overall the 6X works OK, take a look at the zeiss duralyt scopes, I have had a look through them and they're not half bad... as for the "a good lamp beats an expensive scope" argument, I shoot quite a bit at late evening and into dusk without the lamp before I plug it in, so here the good quality glass really makes a difference. it depend how you're going to shoot and to use your rifle

I don't like them I feel they grab your attention too much and get in the way of the target, I just preferr the small nickel bead that you find on game guns, but some folks get on with them so it's all personal preference, I keep both eyes open and just squint to take the shot, it allows my right eye to become more dominant, so it allows me to keep both eyes open for range estimation and tracking on to the target but allows me to get a good sight picture as well

thinking of a bigger game calibre
danebrewer10 replied to trigger happy tikka's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
there was an article in sporting rifle a while back on the differences, I gather, the 7mm-08 is faster, bucks the wind better and shoots flatter than the .308, and kicks less, but you can't use as heavy a bullet in the .308. if I was hand loading, the only thing that would make me choose the .308 over the 7mm-08 is if I was going after boar, for all UK deer species the 7mm-08 I'd think would be better in most ways -
I'd go with the annie, but just because I have one, but I have handled both, the Sako has a bit of a triangular bolt handle, which I didn't like, plus the trigger guard is I think plastic? maybe that's just on the synthetic model, but the ability to change barrels is a bit of a waste of time for most, needing to re-zero between changings, plus there's the other worry of having to clean where the barrel sits in the action, the triggers are comprable, both extreemly good, like I say I'd go with the annie, but at the end of the day, it's your gun and you're going to have to live with it!

I'd not other with one unless you wanted a lever gun then marlin are the way to go, they're much like Savage I think, cheap and cheerful, I'd probably put them slightly lower down the food chain the CZ ANschutz etc, they judt look a bit "agricultural" and a bit clunky, I bet they shoot fine, but for my tastes, I'd go for something else

Eley load them as do a company called "the bismuth cartridge comany" or somethign like that, as for suppliers, Just cartridges will do bulk orders, otherwise you'll just have to get your gunshop to get some in

non-ballistic ballistic heads.
danebrewer10 replied to AzMaN's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
I expect that the target isn't dense or deep enough for the bullet to expand properly, as SS said, they might be the game BT bullets -
no, so few pellets will open up at range and leave you with holes big enough for a fox to pass through or only be wounded, I've shot several, the furthest at 1bout 37m with 50gm of BB, kicks like hell, but is definitely the load for the job if the gun can handle it.

schmidt 8x56 range
danebrewer10 replied to trigger happy tikka's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
depends on how big your target is! on pretty much all quarry, as far as you can responsibly shoot would be my answer, I quite like fixed mag scopes as there's no faffing with mag, and they're much cheaper than the vari-mag scopes for the same superior build quality and light transmission of european optics -
Here's a few vids I did a while back on the subject : it covers pretty much everything on cleaning a bouble barrel shotgun, though I may post a n update because I've since found some impreovements which shorten the cleaning time. as for the oil issue, just use a lightly oiled rag, same for the bores, a lambs wool mop lightly oiled, but not so it runs, it's not hard to get right so why do so many people get it wrong? Clean your barrel or leave it dirty?
danebrewer10 replied to langouroux's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
clean it every time, never miss a cleaning, even if it's the day after. only don't clean it or use a bore snake if you want to be buying rifles all the time -
not directly, but I'm sure that if you asked at your gunshop they'd be able to get you a couple
