that dog gave one of my ferrets brain damage back in january!! would never believe it now. id never leave them alone but he seems to have learnt his lesson. he was just young and a bit too excited when he did it. the ferret was dragging a screaming rabbit aroound by the entrance so i reached in and pulled them both out, pulled the ferret off and put it on the floor. just dispatching the rabbit and turn around to the dog shaking the ferret. all hell broke loose and i spent a couple of days and nights hand feeding her water and food. needless to say it has took this many months for the do

iv had 4 die since iv owned ferrets and only one of them has been under 10. you have ages left with her if you look after her well with a bit of luck. atb

decided id take a few pics of two of my boys playing at the local park. always funny to watch them. i think im known as a local crazy person now after doing this pretty much everyday for the past couple of years!!! as most of you probably have iv had some crazy comments on them the best being asked why i had a badger!!!! some people........ hope you like the pics, atb.

yeah too true, plus if it turns out that she was just genetically predisposed to this then i wont breed off her sister and hopefully do my bit to ensure future healthy ferrets lol!!!

thanks for the messages. turns out not as expensive a post mortem as it could have been, they made me sign an estimated cost form of £100 but only charged me £35 quid as all they had to do was cut her open and they saw it straight away, they know a company that tests the stones for free so thats good. they could have charged me for it, i wouldnt have known!!! i guess some vets are ok lol.....

i get mine vaccinated against distemper for £5 a ferret, just wait until you see a vets offering a cheap deal on dogs/cats then ring up and they will normally do a couple of ferrets for the same price show us the hutch once converted, atb

no, i feed ferret specific food, normally james well beloved supplemented with shot meat at this time of year. so prob 50 50 meat and dry atm rising to about 85%meat in winter. was my best jill that i was going to breed off next year for the 1st time!!!!

well it turns out that she had large stones in her bladder that was stopping her body expelling waste products into her bladder and so poisoned herself. they are very surprised that a ferret this young had such sever stones and so they have been sent off for analysis to determine what caused this build up (diet, predisposition, disease etc.) but this may take a few weeks. just hope her sister doesnt go the same way!!!

she was already vaccinated against this as are all my ferrets, but its not a "ferret" vaccine, its just a small dose of a dog one so they wont guarentee it works lol. but they are all walked in a park that is full of dogs every day, always are during the summer so i would be surprised if it is. but you have me worried now as this years kits i have are not vaccinated and they were in contact yesterday :-( atb solostoke

hi, welcome to the site, i live about 20miles away tops and am going to stafford uni in sept so will be over your way a lot. il also be lookin for permission over stafford way. if you want to go ferreting and see what its like 1st hand and what equipment you deem neccesary then it would be a pleasure. kids are fine if they are well behaved (same with dogs lol). people say you should ferret when there is an r in the month (sept to march). this is mainly due to less cover to contend with and less young rabbits underground which will slow down the action, increase digs and ruin next years sp

hi, got home from work yesterday afternoon and noticed one of my jills was not quite right, a bit lethargic with some reddy discharge around her eyes and nose. i separated her and put a bowl of water in for her to drink from (they always have bottles but i think this helps sometimes) and she drank quite a lot so i thought that the other jill she is with had just been trying to "keep her in the nest" and been depriving her of water. couple of hours later i went out again and she was a bit worse so i went to walk to the vets but the police had shut the road lol!! back home, by which point all

iv just read that book aswell. he says that he fed them for months just on rats!! i guess they would eat them in the wild but nowadays with the poison i wouldnt be risking it.
