thank you to everyone except mr j davies (a well rounded chap i think we will all agree ) i had some incline that it might be the collie in him and no i do not have him on a lead in my garden whilst training. the problem with cars is that i live on a track next door to a farm and when the truck or quad flies past with the herding dogs in hot pirsuit he sees an oppertunity and bolts out through the hedge, runs 50 metres turns tail and come back looking apologetic. i have started him on a collar and long line (well retractable lead thing at 8metres i think) but he doesn't try and cha

my colliexspringer will not stop chasing, everything from game to dogs to cars he loves it, he is however steady to thrown dummies etc and will not attempt to chase whislt on the lead (for obvious reasons). is there a way i can discourage this as it is ruining his training to be a gundog. do methods like electric collars or other less painful ones work? or is he going to have to be retired early to ferreting duty? forgot to mention he is 6 months old, sorry this topic is so breif my computer decided to delete my lengthy one. thanks rob

does anyone use a trolley or wheeelbarrow of some description to lug all of their gear about whilst ferreting? we have been finding lugging the catch as well as the gear which includes slasher and sickle becasue of the thick hedges we work a bit of a job. when i first went ferreting a few year back with some old boy who had an old wooden barrow that seemed to work well. if you do or can think of any suggestions to the design, as my first prototype is being tesed on saturday. its a butchered fishing trolley which is now more of a barrow and all collapses down into to boot of asmall car. an

fair point stubby, i use fenns and poison in the winter to control the rats that always move into our compost heap. all of the fenns are sited in manmade tunnels with resricted entrances and all the poison is suitable for outdoor use and in bait stations which restrict entrances and not with more than a set amount in each one. i think you have a very good point. either do it properly abiding to legislation or don't do it regards rob
-
thats a genius idea, sorry i can't help you but i would love to see the persons face when it happens
-
i have to plead ignorance on this one, stubby, are you saying it is illegal to use poisons available to the public, on your premises. only using them according to manufactures intructions in proper bait stations? cheers rob

my hw90 (.22) needs a bit of a power increase as it is firing at about 10.5ftlbs i want to take it to 11.5 just so i have the most available power for a clean dispatch. i know someone will probably say you only need 4ftlbs to kill a rabbit or something like that but never mind. what i want to know is what gear i need to complete the process, i have a chrono to measure the power to avoid making it illegal. i have looked on the theoben website and the pump is about £74 and the hose about £23 my friend said i can borrow his stirrup pump instead of buying one but his pump has a quick release

has anyone got a copy of this 15ft law? i would like an official document to quote from if possible. and is it only 15ft onto roadside verges or onto other places such as feilds? this could be a very useful piece of legislation which many of us are oblivious to. thanks rob

well i guessed one word right lol. so i could take it in and that would be that. thats sounds brilliant tbh no he was a hard working farm labourer and damn good man so i don't think i should have the plod come sniffing cheers chaps i will ask the rfd on monday when i get my beretta back with new firing pins hopefully thanks again rob

rfd?? regional firearms department??? thats my best guess cheers anyone else know if this is the official method and if this doesnt get the current owner in shit for owning an unregistered firearm

i have been offered an Armstrong single barrelled 12g by a good friend of mine. it was an old friends of his who had it from when he was young. well the original owner died at 91 a couple of years and my friend was given it as the only one with a cabinet to hold the gun. anyway he has no use for the gun and wants to hand on the history to me. back to the point; the gun was never licenced by the old man who owned it before (the bloke who died) and it has never been since (the last couple of years) i was wondering about the way to get the gun registered, in order to own it legitimately a

right i will say it so nobody else has to. READ THE PINNED ARTICLES BY GLENN WATERS ABOUT RABBIT SNARING, THIS GUY IS AN ABSOLUTE PRO! READ IT ABOUT 5 TIMES AND REMEMBER IT OFF BY HEART, AND LIKE STUBBBY SAYS REMOVE THOSE THINGS YOU HAVE MADE UNTIL YOU GAIN SOME KNOWLEDGE. right, now you should be fine. good luck atb rob here you go: http://www.thehuntinglife.com/html/sections/articles/ferreting_trapping/rabbit-snaring-rabbits.html -

i ike the equation rainmaker, nice and easy and for his expected weight too lol. i am going to get in touch with some contacts who might be able to get stuff from the abbatoir. i am also going to give the vet a ring tomorrow if they are open, if not make it monday. about taking him in for a check up with a pot of shit. and see what advice they give me. so do you chaps give veggies as well like spinach and greens or not? he loves apples which he nicks when we are making cider so i let him have one to chew every couple of days. thanks so far guys and hopefully i will sort this proble out and -
do i need a food change?
ellir0305 replied to ellir0305's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
thank you very much hannah!:-) i know that raw is probably the very best diet for a dog andi am doing my best to make it a realistic one but for the time being until i can get it sorted i want some pracital advice NOT abuse i susspect that he may have a sensitive stomach, as well because my friend whohas a dog of the same cross (same dam as well) has that problem. i will have a look his whole life and see about anything else that could be causing it. he keeps picking up bits of coal but i take them off him asap anyway i may try chappie to tide me over but we are slaughtering -
do i need a food change?
ellir0305 replied to ellir0305's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
i simply cannot afford to feed raw food, he gets meat gravy on his kibble made from scraps but this is a very efficient way of making it, plus when i tried him on meaty bones and he got dihorieahas he ate the whole bone. thanks rob -
my pup is almost 5 months old now and growing fast, he is a colliexspringer. he has been fed on alphafeeds sporting puppy since 8 weeks old and has been fine on it but over the past couple of weeks he has developed slowly softer stools which are lighter in colour and smell more. up to them he has been fine and currently has no other sysptoms to suggest he is ill, which is why i am assuming the problem is food based. so does anyone know if he needs a change of food to an adult mix or what? thanks in advance regards rob

will try and remember mate and mine is made of welded angle iron frame, cladded with 9mm exterior ply. bolted on with m6 roofing bolts. good sturdy structure and easy to knock up if you have a welder and cordless drill. as for the mesh front i used the mesh from inside the panels which surround building sites  lol easy to get and you just tack weld it onto the frame before you paint it. atb rob
