  1. has anyone got any pictures of the wall and beam rat snare tealers? i have seen them on the trapworks website but i can't seem to enlarge the picture and i like making stuff myself. 1.5 mil galvanised wire i think thanks atb rob
  2. the railways have just finished doing some fencing next to my house, so i have just made 50 new tealers, just keep your eyes open on sites
  3. when you look at the run going through some grass(make sure its a rabbit run ) it should look like a dotted line, the dots being the pressed down grass where the rabbits feet land each time. set on the small shit free beats. i'm sure someone will be able to describe it better and add a useful picture. good luck with the snaring atb rob
  4. rabbits don't need o be bolting to be caught in a snare, you get them when they are hopping along normally. if you get into snaring i would get woodgas dvd its full of great info and shows you how to make and set all your snaring kit atb rob
  5. bet they have nice to see whot you can get tho 3from 4 bag on tho only managed it once though lol
  6. no, fences snares are very useful as they are out in the run where rabbits are less cautious. have you read the G.S.Waters pinned articles about rabbit snaring? if not read them they are great. atb rob
  7. 3 out of 4 snares is my best but i don't put many out, snareman woodga and pegandgun are a few of the pros off here and they've probably have some massive records.
  8. well then being as i'm a tight fisted bugger looks like i will have to go find an oak tree and save buying stuff, so dotty feel free to ask away im just as interested as you. also does anyone wax them to make them fire faster, i seem to remember a reference to this practice ages ago. oh, my traps last night. two set: one unfired so no activity at that hole but a smouldering fire nearby this morning so good reason. and the other just like that picture of the rabbit in the trap on the first page but only blood and no rabbit, so not sure what happened there as it fires and was pulled to outsi
  9. the only worry i had about them not firing as fast was based on the difference in how hard they were to set (a new shiny one Vs a rusted one) if it has no affect on kill or power i will leave well alone. i have set a couple (well rusted )tonight to see if i can get some ferret food, i had to go through a fair few holes to get ones big enough to set them. the burrow entrances round here are often quite small. does anyone else come across this? another thing, i was just wondering what you guys use as pegs and how you attach them to the trap, if you extend the chain or not. i have used
  10. whats the best thing for painting fenns? want something to make them less visible but not intefere with the firing of the trap. is it a bit of classic vauxhall leaf green or something else. thanks Rob
  11. as said you cant really bleed an animal proberly when its dead, so i can only think chin the animal quickly then slit thr throat very quickly while the heart is still winding down but that only works when you have your hands on a live rabbit like in ferreting. i suppose you could soak the flesh in salt water to remove the blood. b ut never heard that beleif before its an interesting one. cheers
  12. i have been using the laccy band trick this season but a broke so many bands whilst ferreting it never worked as a tally and just ended up cutting of the circulation to me fingers lol. there was a chap on here a while back saying about cutting a notch in the peg so you could tie them up with bands and they would stay neat in your bag. does anyone have a picture of said notched pegs and how you bundle the nets with them?
  13. cheers mate, i got a couple out of a friends paddock today with proper oldschool scissor traps (the good old ones) which i tweaked the springs up on so he's happy. 3 traps 1 day and 2 moles i'm chuffed with that. i will check out the flatpack place as i need some more traps. because my friends friend has an unwelcome visitor in her lawn (hopefully might get some petrol money though ) when it comes to setting the trap i meant setting it before placing it in the run, i can do that bit ok. its the getting them set thats tricky is there a nack or specific way of holding them?
  14. i do a couple of mole jobs for friends in return for skills and bartering etc. i only have a few traps, old scissors and couple of duffus i have been given over the years. i was wondering, what is the best way of setting the duffus style as i often find them fiddly to set however the fact that the soil doesnt fall through when you backfill is great. also where is the cheapest place to get duffus traps (good ones) as i understand they are the cheapest type. thanks atb rob
  15. tbh so far all the ramblers and dog walkers have been older people who have either ignored us (mutually ) or shown a geniune interest . but id offer them a rabbit.
  16. its crazy, i am right out in the sticks and we still get loads of fly tippers. love the little box mr. T will have to make one on them for the little mooches round. atb
  17. i false floored my dogs sleeping box with plywood and 2" polystyrene board. then a good layer of hay and a couple of blankets. the box is 4x2x2' and the dog is toasty warm with no other heating. atb rob
  18. flusing to the gun is the final aim
  19. 9mm exterior plywood imo, and use thinner stuff like 6mm for the curve on a bowback. good lick of cuprinol (or any other leading brand of wood preserver ) jobs a gooden atb rob
  20. here you go mate, a link to snaremans earth anchors article. should be exactly what you want but might be tricky to get into the ground in this weather. atb rob ps. a 18-24" bit of angle iron cut to a point on one end driven right into the ground with a big hammer and a hole drilled in the other, connected to the snare with one of the quickclips (see the above link) works well too
  21. i have read about people feeding dogs on the barf diet feeding straight from the freezer so i shouldnt think i would harm them. and theres nothing wrong with a good dried ferret food only my opinion. atb rob
  22. was struggling to get my pegs in bar the ones with bent round tent pegs, they went in fine. keep at them lads atb rob ps i'd kill for a foot of snow, we have 3-4" of it here not really that good for sledging.
  23. well i just went out and did a couple of smallish buries 5 mins from my house(but left the shotty at home because i was taking a newbie out with me). bolted 4 and netted 3 one slipped out the net when the peg didnt hold ,was really struggling to get them in but my nets with tent pegs on went in a treat and they hold well in normal conditions too. so 3 healthy rabbits which is good because i can't get more dog food till monday at the earliest. plus all 4 were bolted by my new jill from chris, she works great mate just like here mum but without the bushy tail. need to get a harness for them
  24. is it worthme taking the team out in this weather or will the bunnies simply not bolt? where i am we have about 4 inches of snow max so hardly arctic. so pugging or sledging? cheers guys atb rob
  25. not having a pop mate. try the working dog and health section. some top lads on there no their stuff and might not see this post on this section. good luck with the bitch atb rob
