i need a couple more leather collars as spare and to fit to awkward sized ferrets. where is the best place to get them from in your experience. thanks rob
-
yep thats the score so far for two little outings, trying to get the jill back to fitness after her litter and shes doing alright. need to get another leather collar before i can take the hob out cos i lost his last year and dont have one that fits. it been a bit too dry so far i can't get the bloody pegs in the ground. atb rob

it will be fine mate, leave it on and cook till tender atb rob

nice one mate, i had though about it but thought they might tangle up a bit were they all bundled up with elastic bands or just thrown in ? i have been out a couple of times so far just small sets. the tally sits at 8/10. chris was on about starting at the half term i think. atb Rob

i did the elastic band trick last year but with diving in and out of hedges you soon break a band and lose one so i just fold and wrap now. like the sound of the hi-vis jacket though might try that one atb rob

i was just looking on a few sites for some net making gear as i fancy knocking up a couple of poke nets as it something my net bag is lacking and i came across this poly linen stuff ag £15/kg which seems fairly well priced. so i was wonderng how it handles from anyone who has used it? does it tangle or snag and does it need double knotting etc. it does say it needs drying after use but thats no real hardship also is there anywhere where i can get some well priced hemp? thanks Rob
-
well that makes life much easier will have to knock a couple up are those one 30x10x10"?? thanks rob

ferrets purr???? lucky you got her back mind and she might well just be knackered

i think stubby might have meant the door locking mechanism that holds the door shut after the trap has fired. is it necessary to have one when cage trapping rabbits?? and if so how do you make one? atb rob

thats a bloody brilliant idea i hate plucking. my mate had a normal drill one once but slung it because it took him longer to clear up than pluck them by hand. nice idea rod

if the one shot was taking your shoulder off god knows what the double discharge was like, i have'nt been shooting long but never heard of any of this happening and i shoot with people who fire the cheapest shit all the time. i would personally let the gun shop know, i mean if its a faulty batch you guys might have been lucky. could go worse for the next guy atb rob

yes the vet said just squirt the amount of sprays on the ferts back then using the gloves rub in all over. thats what i did before and it worked fine. i dont see the differnce between spraying onto the ferret or onto the glove, either way the ferret gets rubbed with the liquid. i wasn't suggesting a good soaking or a dip

i was just worried that getting the spray on her exposed 'you know what' (its a family site) may cause troubles but if not i will go ahead and flea.as for the hutches i got this flea spray for houses, from the pet shop, that fumigates in 30 minutes and that did the trick good and proper before just make sure you air the hutch out well before you put them back. thanks guys atb rob ps. is the breeding info right yes? just want to make sure it all goes properly as it is the first time i have bred ferrets, been reading up for weeks and had every book with any ferret content from the librar

i wanted to flea my two before i bred them but the jill has started coming into season, been swelling for 3 days now, i was wondering if it still possible to flea her with no ill affect (using frontline spray) as i don't want her to pass anything onto the kits. and another thing, i have read three books about breeding them now, and the general consencus is wait until 14days after the jill started swelling then leave them together in a neutral hutch for 24 hours. thanks atb rob

a couple of questions about a fox
ellir0305 replied to ellir0305's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
jesus thats a lot of tanning info, thanks a lot . right now i know how to get the skin off next time, we are going out lamping tomorrow so will hopefully get another one. my chickens and the rabbit and pheasant population took a hammering last year so a pregnant vixen is a good kill IMO. salt peter looks the most simple method, so where on eath do you get it from, GOOGLE! thanks rob -
i got a fox i've been after for a while now with the shotgun earlier (bad things happen when gingers fall asleep in the sun) and thought i would try and cure the tail anyway i balls up skinning it so i now have 8" tail stub which i am going to dry with salt and dunk in meths to hold the fur. so whats the proper way to skin and 'cure' a fox tail? oh and another question, with the rest of the fox is it possible to lure in some crows rooks and maggies that have been making a nuisance of themselves? trying to get them within range of my not particularly impressive 12g shooting. th

thanks for the reply, my main concern was because i was looking at a van well wardrobe on wheels might be a better description of a rascal, they ask you if you will be carrying dangerous goods. i did not know if shotguns and ammunition has to be declared or as i have a licence to possess such items they go without saying but gas bottles are supposed to be declared and you don't need licences for those. i was considering getting onto the BASC to find out the legalities of the issue if nobody here know for sure. i am 17 and its my first car and will be third party fire and theft of that chan

i am soon going to be insuring my first car well bedford rascal and i was wondering if i needed to declare carriage of dangerous goods or anything along those line as i plan to carry my shotguns and air rifles. i have basc insurance if that makes any difference. cheers rob

okey doke, don't want to harm the little stinkers, it won't get wet as its inside and i use aluminium trays under litter areas to make life easier. i will play it safe though and see if a can skip dive some plywood, i also need some mesh mmmm cheers chaps
-
i am in the process of extending one of my hutches into a multi layer court for my jill and her kits (when she comes into season) and i am a little short on plywood. but as a tight fisted person i would rather reuse materials i have than fork out any money. so i was wondering if i could use some mdf i got of a packing pallet to make the middle shelf? or will it harm the ferrets? cheers atb rob

forgot to say, just make sure its the stuff you can bend easily,( i think its the non high tensile, which means it is more malleable but i'm not certain on that. ) make up a jig with nails in a peice of wood to bend the figure 4 and you can make them up pretty sharpish. atb
