  1. we have mice living in them next to the chickens in the orchard
  2. i had one when we went out new years eve up and hopping about got caught by the ferret and the hole entrance. still best get them now before they do more damage. but that depends purely on the land you are ferreting and the reasons for the control. atb
  3. aah i have just been usinng my thump without the finger behind, ok odd sounding sentence. and i tried pulling harder and snapped the twine, i think this should work but anyway once i stop swearing and turn out another good net i will let you know. thanks a lot Rob
  4. thanks for the advice, isn't the knot you are describing a carrick bend, what i am calling a double knot? i am using a aluminium mesh board and pulling the mesh down tight to the top edge and holding it tigt against the fornt of the board not the top edge so that might be where i am going wrong. because i have to let go of the tension in order for the knot to form . thanks for the help i will persevere, out of interest how do you guys hold your meshboard/ hold the tension any pictures. i find them easier when it comes to net making. another issure too when tying and expanding mesh, one of the
  5. i have started making my own purse nets and much as i am enjoying it i have had a problem with my last net, when tying a single sheet bend it has been inverting, that is it ends up tight onto the threads on the mesh board not the loop above which it should tighten onto. this means the meshes slip. the material is spun poly so is fine to single knot and my first net was fine. not sure why its doing it really, it is fine when i double knot but it takes much longer to do. thanks Rob
  6. well from what you have said they don't seem particularly in tune with the country way of life do they. if you had such a good relationship with the old tennants the land owner will know you are polite and reasonable so i wiould contact him and explain the situation. But then again he may just be happier to have the money and not upset the tennants in which case you might be out of luck. atb hope you keep the permission Rob

  8. if you used the same idea of thev coats combined with a pressure cooker it could be super effective. not only would your stew be cooked through it would be meltingly tender. in theory anyway atb
  9. Out of interest what would be? and i wouldnt have thought a vegetable based sustance would but many animals off like i say only speculation. thanks guys i will put a bit of oil on the triggers and see. what about the ground / covering freezing and impairing firing. any thoughts on that? ATB rob
  10. thank you just what i needed to know.
  11. As the title suggests i am wondering what sized net needle i will be needing for knitting purse nets onto 1" rings? and also i take it you can use as bigger needle as you like for knitting long nets as there is no ring to pass through when starting the knitting process. thanks in advance Rob
  12. deerhunter big wolf well priced and a cracking all round coat. looks fairly smart and takes some stick
  13. soon beat that barrow back into shape looked like a good day
  14. don't discount the trad set method for ferreting light to carry and not slow to set at all plus a hell of a lot cheaper. just a thought ATB Rob
  15. i think that nutrition in the formativve weeks and months of a ferrets life will have an obvious affect on size. for example i had a jill off a friend of mine who was very well fed as a young ferret and she is a fair bit larger than her mum. i then put that medium sized jill to a smallish hob of mine and the resulting litter(being the first litter i have bread was very well fed probably over fed if i am honest) the jills were larger again asnd the hobs of the litter are about 1 1/2 times the size parent hob. but i would definately not underfeed a nursing jill and litter to keep the kits small
  16. i'll third that i had 20 of the 10z ones off him and they are really good. great service too cracking prices ATB Rob
  17. thanks mate, did you get a brochure or just do business over the phone? thanks again
  18. just as the title says really, just wondering if anyone uses KP&S nets of uplyme and if so what are they like to deal with. they don't operate over the internet but they are fairly local to me (20 miles) so i wouldnt mind using them. thanks Rob
  19. i don't use that exact model but i have a cluson shootalite which runs off a 12v 7Ah battery pack and is brilliant takes a hell of a lot of stick and the the spares and accessories are easy to get, just had to change the battery after 4or5 years cost me all of £13 . cracking company to deal with. and you won't have to rewire it to make it work properly like you would a lightforce. just my opinion. atb Rob

  25. its still a bit hot yet but a couple of months and i will have to donning the hat and gloves for ferreting. i was wondering what everyone else uses as last season i spent half of the time retrieving my wooly hat from various blackthorn bushes as picking sh*t out of my gloves. any suggestions that are slightly more practical than me nice wooly knits and waterproof to boot if possible looking forward to frosty mornings icy toes... thanks in advance Rob
