  1. ok it does involve rubbers, gloves that is before you get ahead of yourselves.. i have hands like shovels to put it bluntly, they are pretty damn big, so my question for you is where on earth do i get gurt big rubber disposable gloves for dealing with rats and stuff as i always carry a few pairs shooting, trapping etc i have tried large in a lot of brands but i still end up with half my hand out of the glove or severly webbed looking hands. help me please! thank you rob

  3. wow what a prick i guess like they say if ity sounds too good to be true it probably is. so what has the firearms officer got to say? has the gun got a fruitful past?

  6. you want to keep that spot a secret it would be a nice easy one to start the kits on when the time comes
  7. sounds like with 9 nests so far you got a job for the pesties. with the odd one or two in our orchard/garden we just wait till its dark and cold when they all go in the doose with petrol (not too much its expensive these days ) and put a torch to it. that usually sorts them out
  8. i got another one the other day. this one was 18 inches that the biggest ive ever shot or trapped. but the big daddy is sill there hes much bigger i'd say 21" + the rat catcher has been working well but ive got to get a proper silencer for it, the peanut butter baiting didnt work so i think i might try MR T's idea of dog food. they seem to be more wary in the daytime now a few of their mates have been blasted but the farmer is certainly happy
  9. but snares have to be free running in the uk, that is why they have eyelets in. those kind will hold but they will strangle the rabbit instead of holding it until dispatching
  10. sounds like a great idea but i don't know of a supplier sorry
  11. is that so they can be dispatched more effectively?
  12. hi, i am 17 years old and i am looking aty becoming a BASC member for insurance purposes, thmembership i would require is juniour as i am under 18 at a price of £20. my two questions are: would i receive the same cover 10 million £ public liability etc? and it defines it as a person under 18 yrs of age who fires section 1 and 2 firearms, what are these, as i fire airgun and shotgun as well as ferreting thanks rob

  14. from the sound of the previous post the bushing it screws onto needs to be turned in a lathe to the correct diameter which is something you can do yourself if you have a metal working lathe but if you or a friend doesnt have one and know what to do with it i expect the gunsmith is your best bet. sounds pretty simple though

  18. Not quite true as there is evidence that they will not only kill but also eat mice that stray in to the tunnels. Their main food though is worms and inverabates. they will also eat there own kind , but they are still insectivore's Part-time insectivors!! like them vegetarians that eat fish
  19. that must work out to be some expensive trapping aaronhow much is a mars bar? and i can get a tub of peanut butter for 80p ish which will bait hundreds of traps and keep indefinately
  20. yeah as said you should get quite a few for the first few days and it will start to decline as numbers reduce, monitor for signs such as droppings and food matter as well
  21. in the grain bagging shed and grain shed up at the farm there are a healthy population of rats (YUK!) after shooting a great big male one earlier sorry no picture btu in comparision to my shoe i measured afterwards i make him out to be about 16 or 17 inches nose to tail. story time aside i want to know the best way to bait rats out and to shoot them in low light conditions (my scope isnt great in low light)is there any way i could back light it or would this makev the rats suspicious. i know they have a poor sense of sight so keeping concealed isnt an issue especially as ther is a
  22. i have asked similar questions so the advice i have been given is go to your local gun shop often not actually that local have a look at what they have but more importantly pick them up and see what fits YOU 12 or 20 bore is good then see what you want to spend and bare in mind you will need a cabinet and licence if you dont have them already. i have just sent my application off and i cant wait now and get in some practice on clays and get someone who really knows what they are talknig about to help you out with your stance and aim/point
  23. as a general rule glue boards should be used as a last result as they are inhumane and horrible tbh get a load of eith little nipper breakback traps or some of those black plastic snap-E traps bait them with peanut butter and site them where ther has been recent activity and you should see aninstant reduction in the numbers hope this helps rob
