what shot size for shooting rabbits
ellir0305 replied to lurch46's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
been out lamping with the 12s the last couple of nights and have taken 74 rabbits with 28 and 30g sixes, not a single runner. good shot and i find better than the 7.5 which are perfect for pigeons. my mate with a 20 bore took a fair amount with the same load weight and shot size -
a lot of peoples lamping career started off with one of those terrible handhelp spotlights with the built in battery that lasts all of five minutes in the feild, and once you get a decent torch or just give up on that idea it ends up in the cupboard to die a dusty death... anyway this was the way it was for me and my cluson shootalite has been brilliant but it runs out of steam on thoselong nights working from the car, which is where my thrift and desperation set in . so i got the old handheld lamp, and ripped out the battery and charging diodes. then a bit of soldering later and you

good shooting stealthy and a nice picture to boot, i got one tonight, one that the drive by monkeys with shotguns slowed down but didnt kill, the poor thing had a broken leg but was still bouncing around and having a feed. them rabbits are a resiliant bunch and all. one for the stinkers all the same hey atb rob forgot to say 31yrds standing and dead on in the eye my best shot to date in the standing position

you can get push fit leather recoil pads that add about an inchin length to the stock and similar design silicon plastic ones that add aout half an inch so whichever is bestfor the fit. i think they are under £30 so its a good idea which could save expensie stock adjustment or it could help you establish the adjustment needed. atb rob

it should be alright for an hour i should think, but i have a gas ram now which is great because itdoesnt matter how long. good camo makes all hunting situations easier, a face veil or something similar and if they are really bad cam the gun too. but it sounds more like you want to get some ferrets in there or fenn traps in the burrows or snares on the runs. give us an idea of how big the place is and we might be able to help you more good luck atb rob

i have started making nets recently and i haven't done much due to lack of materials but i have got the basic technique down and a few blisters later i want to make a small stop net/ hare net. so i have a few questions really; how many yards of net would i get out of a 500g spool of 6z if i was knitting 4 1/2" full mesh? is 6z the best material for the application of should i use spun nylon? is the selvedged mesh essential and if so what should i use for that? thanks rob

Any free stuff for an up and coming hunter ?? :D
ellir0305 replied to Jay hayden's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Airgunning, snaring ect i love hunting for rabbits get some rat hunting mate, you can't eat them which is a downside, but farmers and chicken keepers etc are only too happy to give you permission and they can be tricky suckers. you learn a lot thats for sure. especially if you learfn how to used fenns and bodygrips then you can move up to the bigger traps and get the rabbits. and if you succeed at catching peoples rats they will often let you catch their rabbits or recomend you to others. i am still trying to get more and more traps for my own use so i cant' help you with that side -
mine is 9x9x19 with a seperator and is ok for my two hobs but if i made another one i would make it a bit bigger, make sure you put in lots of holes for ventilation atb rob

I am currently studying Countryside Management ND at Cannington college in Somerset and for part of my course i have to do 240 hours of work experience over the 2 years which is nothing really but i have a timetabled day (friday) in which to do this, however i could also do wednesday afternoons and mondays and sundays as well as any night work. I am wondering if there are any gamekeepers or estate managers or anyone in the countryside sector in Somerset who would consider taking me on, I am 17 years in age and willing to work hard, I have shooting and trapping experience and can travel, I

i have had my puppy for a week and a half now and hes getting on brilliantly but i have to be honest been chucking his shit in the ditch as i live right out in the sticks, but i was wondering what you do with all the poop because i know the amount isnt going to get any less. so can you bin it, or compost it or is there a special way of getting rid of it? thanks atb rob

john im not a dog man but you have mentioned the problem with rattling locks i think you can get larger versions of those latches you use on ferrets boxex which have a good positive lock up and are silent but easier to knock open i suppose. maybe mesh with bars on top would be the perfect combo and through bolted for strength looks good though atb rob
