    Hunting

A pack of lurchers and terriers daytime hunting for rabbits.
  4. Why not try alternating her food between dry, and different meats, i think dogs like a variety like us. If she's one year old then she's done all her growing so you can just see if she's carrying enough weight and has energy then you've got nothing to worry about.
  5. Thanks for your info guys, I went to a gun shop yesterday held a couple of guns. The chap there said Air Arms guns are his best sellers but he also is getting in a couple of Weihrauch HW100 in next week. He said there really well made guns, a bit more pricey but worth it, it seems I always end up doubling my budget.
  6. I think the young dogs won't know a rabbit from a hare, so bring them on with rabbits!
  7. Good luck to you Kate, it must be difficult over there finding good hunting stock when nearly all thats been imported is from show lines. Well I guess we've got the dogs but unfortunately the ban and you've got no ban but unfortunately not the dogs. It's the same with most things in life, always a compromise Shepp
  8. Yes al I have thought about pre owned but being a novice I'd be concerned that i'd be unable to see if the gun had any faults or problems. My father wants to get one too so I guess at least we can share the cost of a charging kit. Thanks for your advice al Shepp
  9. Hi I just wondered if anybody could give me some advice? I'm looking for an air gun, the BSA Ultra Multi Shot looks favourite so far being pneumatic, light weight and compact and around my budget price of around 400 pounds. I could go a little higher for the right gun. I only like conventional looking guns with wooden stocks and I'll be using it for pest controll, so does anybody think I should be looking at an alternative to compare it with when I visit the gun shop. Thanks for any advice. Shepp
  10. Kate if you removed your own head from your arse long enough you might realise thay nobody is against pedigree dogs that can do the job it's just that the majority of running dogs and terriers that are kennel club regestered are inferior or completely useless in the field. The only people who are really getting down to a lower level is us bothering to answer your elitest, pedigree show dog, ignorant waffle.
  11. I must agree with you there snoop, most of the show folk i've met had faces like slapped shit
  12. Ah here .Kate that's very libelous stuff there, the jack x beagle out out of working stock on both sides is a busy careful little dog that doesn't roam as far beyond the horn as purebreds might and is perky and inquisite, not outright bowling as a purebred. In these parts permission to hunt is getting limited and a dog that is easier to call off and works closer to hand is more and more use. The Teagle, jack to beagle for rabbits generally and fell/ irish terrier to beagle for fox is a good nosed diligent careful dog less 'scatty' than pure bred beagles and a lot slower! Do not dismis
  13. I bought one a few weeks ago of a similar type but it was a clamp to a table version. It busted after the first use on chicken leg bones. My father then bought home a £5 one from a second hand shop, really old it is but the quality of it is far superior and the part that broke on the new one is not even in the old one. I suggest you check out charity shops, antique shops and car boot sales and save a few bob. Shepp

    poultry keeping

I just wondered if anbody kept a breed of bantam which layed a reasonable number of eggs?
  15. I've always liked borders, really bright little dogs, i've heard there known as 'the gentleman of the north' I'll get myself one, one day. I used to have a border terrier cross whippet, most loyal, trouble free dog i've ever owned.

    veggy

If being a vegitarian is so healthy like they try to tell us then why is it that i've never seen healthy looking vegitarian. They always look pale, skinney and weak, bet none of them could do a manual job.

    poultry keeping

I used to have some miniture game birds and a few laying breeds, morans, light sussex, white leghorns and rhode island reds. I plan to get a few more later in the year, i think i'll go for some game birds again, some leghorns and i quite fancy a couple of those daft looking chinese ducks that stand really upright.
  18. Thanks for the advice guys, i've taken note of those titles
  19. I just wondered if anybody could recommend any books on training lurchers or working dogs in general. I find that all the lurcher books i've read don't go into the subject in any great depth. Many thanks Shepp

  23. I've been teaching my pup to retreive this weekend, she's eight weeks. She seems to do it quite naturally for the first two or three goes then gets bored so i leave it there. Had to stop her barking at me and running away too, quick grab, a little shake and a hard no. I then made her sit next to me for a couple of minuites, i think it's sinking in. Hard to get the balance with giving them confidence but still letting them know boss.
