  1. LMAO...AND THAT'S WHAT'S IN THE PURE SID TAYLORS?
  2. Any chance of seeing the oldest Hen you have too?
  3. I agree Bob, about the water and obviously location. When I first started Incubating Eggs, the technology wasn't what it is now so much. I am not talking about the Stone Age, but nearly 40 years ago I first used an Incubator...lol, I was almost 10 and we had a Small Holding, so I wanted some OEG Bantams and some new American type of Birds my Dad knew some good Chicken Fellas, so got some and borrowed an Antique (almost) Incubator. I never added any Water, put it in a Shed with a couple of Cows and left it, using a Brick to sit edge of Incubator on and alternating sides twice a day, when the Co
  4. 'Shakes' are nice, just have to make sure enough of them are about
  5. OK, my Eyes or probably the light in the picture makes the Beak look pretty pale, with a bit of black, but what about the Shanks and Ear Lobes? Original stock have light shanks and white Ear Lobes?
  6. . No I'd say he fanceys a fry up....... Lol...If we met I could definitely see it ending badly.
  7. Is it for prospective Brood Stock?
  8. Do the light coloured Beak, Shanks, Face and white Ear Lobes come from the original stock you got?
  9. Turning the Eggs is probably one of the more minor reasons Eggs don't Hatch in Incubators. Life sometimes dictates how we can manage them, but twice is usually enough, three if you can or even more, AS LONG AS YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP OPENING THE INCUBATOR TO DO IT. The four major reasons are, quality of the Eggs, correct Humidity, good site for Incubation period and then an average Temp of 37.5 degrees throughout the 21 days. A LOT OF less experienced people tend to also mess up on the last stage, the last 3 days.
  10. OK cheers mate, the molt takes a lot out of them, still early yet.
  11. I know the original Thread was about Canaries......had a senior moment and went off on a tangent about British for some reason...sorry, lol.
  12. LOL......The Files, like you lot, are getting thicker and thicker............The new 'Travellers'
  13. LOL....I can see why he would think that, a little too lightly Feathered for my liking, but I'll go with......each to their own.
  14. Bullx, can you explain what you mean "they are nowhere near as good as what's been put up here lately"?
  15. I had a lovely sleep last night....this has been therapeutic, thanks fellas. I won't be clarifying, end of another discussion for me.......without any personal comments or insults. Those who know, know.
  16. LMAO..........YOU GUYS ARE SO HURTFUL. I am Heartbroken you speak to me this way, struggle to sleep knowing you don't agree with me, my Nerves are in tatters! It's no good, I'll just have to admit to myself you guys are where it's at and what you say must be right. There I have said it, out in the open......let's see how I sleep tonight.
  17. LOL......It's obviously me. OK, just to please everyone, that's an unmistakeable Billy Ruble Cock and what a stereotypical John Sears Albany Hen.
  18. As soon as someone else puts together their own Brood Pens, all stock after that cannot be classed the same as the original. When I was younger I brought in some McClean Hatch, everything, after I set my own Brood Pens up, were then just Hatch with only the foundation of that stock being McClean. McClean himself had nothing to do with what I bred. The Cock in the Picture is not a Billy Ruble Bird and the Hen isn't a John Sears Bird. Just a 'Pet hate' of mine, lots of names get banded around the place and it's factually wrong. Two Breeders could get hold of the exact same blood, breed them and
  19. The original stock I had in the 80's and a guy I know brought in, MAY have been pure 'Ruble Hatch', they have been bred and crossed by several guys over the years, including me, so in reality they can only be called 'Hatch', at best. I can't comment on the 'Albany' Hen, other than, if it has gone through lots of guys Hands, it has been changed from the original stock too. However, the Cock Bird seems a nice type in the Picture, can't really see the important one.......the Hen. In my defence for not being too complimentary about the pair, your Hands tell you a lot more than a Picture does. The
  20. My sentiments too. I believe they should be kept as wild as you can, within the constraints of 'captive breeding'.........otherwise, it is just keeping a glorified Canary. However, I also understand there are times we have to help..if it is having to use lights, so be it.
  21. If it is the case where you just need extra light, then still use the broad spectrum system it also helps them in the assimilation of vitamins. Show guys like early Birds, they are bigger specimens and better feathered for the unflighted classes.
  22. The best lights to have are the broad spectrum ones, like they use for Tortoises and Lizards. Just remember to increase the times on over a couple of weeks and you can use a digital timer from any hardware store or DIY place. Some extend their breeding season or some start it early, using lights and timers. Also remember to have a red Bulb on overnight, as a constant. Not everyone is in favour of using lights, due to draining their Brood stock by double and treble clutching. I think it's OK, if you single clutch and just use lights for early or late young.......not too many want late young tho
  23. I don't think what I said is right or wrong, I don't know what the answer is. In my original Post I just said it was something told to me by a fella, when I asked him what it could be. Spurred, dominant young Hens trying to crow with low fertility. I am not trying to spread lies, I am a fan on inbreeding and line breeding, but you have to cull hard and be very selective. I also know when to inbreed and when not to, people shouldn't inbreed just for the sake of it...among other things, it fixes the bad as well as the good. You may be right, with your stock, breeding to the type of Hen mentione
  24. No, I might say it could be because they are INBRED too much on the Hens side.........big difference. Regardless of that I join these conversations to hopefully help others and learn something along the way, remaining open minded. I have been told and shown things over the years by older fellas, with lots of experience, whether it's been Wheat or Chaff, I have been respectful. I know what is a fact, I am not going to fall out with anyone over an opinion, but will fight my Corner. We all have different ideals, opinions, experience and levels of success. Never been able to keep Fowl, be
