  1. i have just recently cut some sticks to use as a probe, and to mark where the hob has killed {where he has stayed in one place for a bit}. some times when digging i thought i could just do with a stick or probe just to break through gently.sticks are obviously lighter to carry than a metal probe and i attach the locators to the end with elastic bands. ive started going out with an old guy who said if we mark with the sticks or pegs where we think the ferrets killed and moved on we can dig the rabbits out later.

  7. i work a staffy bitch along side my collie lurcher, she catches a fair few rabbits as they evade the lurcher. the staffs one of the best dogs ive had. i take her ferreting where i cannot take the lurcher, i would recomend a staffy for ferreting to anyone.
  8. i also have a first cross dog out of billy clinton and white pearl . he is above average .white pearl was a coursing greyhound from john leatheam had good stamina, but white pearl was put down after breeding .has anyone else got apup out of that litter?. no pics sorry.
  9. 26 at shoulder, first cross border greyhound dog, 34 kilo.
  10. its never going to be the same again,no party is going is going to bring back hare coursing, that was sacrificed for fox hunting. more people go fox hunting now than they did before.
  11. my first ever dog was a bedlington cross whippet 23 years ago. my mate got me it for twenty quid. was george newcombe bred ,rillington strain.was great ferretting bitch, she would follow the ferret above ground with her nose, just point where the ferret was. no one had locators then. she would go through the thickest brambles after rabbits. i knew some people in leeds who kept small rillington strain of workers a few years ago .
  12. inspired by richard christians articles about his staffy bitch Nell, i got myself a staffy bitch two years ago, she bushes for the lurcher and ferrets. i sometimes lamp her with the lurcher and by herself on rabbits. she is just about three yards short of catching on the lamp but catches in rough daytime. she is not kc reg bought her from a woman on a local council estate, she is like and old fashioned picture of one.
  13. how is a small patterdale bitch going to give birth to large wheaton cross pups ? should not the bitch be a wheaton and the sire a patt ?
  14. cracking looking pups, did the other pups go to working homes. I use a little staffy bitch for ferreting, slow to start but she lives for it now.
  15. i have a pal who races at askern , he brings his dogs to mine for a bit of lamping to keen them up. they have all caught rabbits on the first slip. the hardest bit is to get them to come back if they miss a rabbit. they are only let off the lead to race round the track.
  16. youll soon know when you start working him, coursing with him . if he is knackered after two good runs hes a 3/4, if he stays well and can course again and again he is a first cross
  17. i have a pregnant jill due first of may, she lives with a castrated hob should i seperate them soon before she gives birth ?. im tempted to leave them together , but i think i will seperate them next week just to be on the safe side.

  19. i have a good young little working staffy bitch, ive been thinkinging of breeding her with a sooty sam bred whippet maybe next year and keeping a strong leggy dog pup. im impressed with how she is coming on . ferreting she can anticipate the bolt and takes em on exit, she is fast enough to catch in the rough . [ i hardly ever use nets ] lamping she is about four yards short, then the distance just gets bigger, but she goes through the motions just right running down the beam and every thing. she is just so easy to get on with easy at home, great temperment with other dogs loves... no lives to
  20. i wil leave everything in peace at the end of the month but this month is allways my favourite month of thr year. i am really pleased with my young staffy bitch ive been ferreting and even lamping with allways in the right place good nose patience well happy. she has taken bolted rabbits like a lurcher. the lurcher is the worst lamper ive ever had, soon as turn lamp off he fucks off . before the ban all i did was hares and thats all he has in his head looking for em. he is ok at ferreting .... some thing to work on .... i need some more permission , i got some new permission then lost it t
  21. i had a good working whippet, oakbark breeding. i used to drive from yorkshire down to norfolk to run him in the east anglian coursing club before the ban. great fun fantastic dogs. cost me a lot of money in vets bills they have paper thin skin .
  22. not all of the greyhounds hancock uses are crap track dogs, he sometimes used to get good quality cast off coursing greyhounds. he had a bitch called white pearl , she started off a track dog but ended up coursing in the old yorkshire coursing club and she won a 32 dog stake in linconshire "the benoir" . this qualified her for the waterloo cup. but she was not entered.she wasnt fast but had plenty of stamina could stay on . her ownner retired and gave her to david for breeding off. i have a first cross dog out of her, 3 years old takes daytime winter hares. i think david only bred a coupl
