  11. it was a 20 inch limmit, which i thought was unfair to dogs ,because obviousley dogs are bigger than bitches. at the east anglian they used to run one meeting a year for 21inch dogs, which i ran my 21 inch oakbark bred dog, i could also have a run at the end of the day when all compititions were finished if there were any hares left to run. if i were to get another whippet i would get a mike brown sooty sam line or one from lyneperry nimrodel lines both best whippets i have seen, good bone, good strike, stamina, real deal. my oakbark was good he had an extra gear, but didnt have that extra det
  12. i sent off for a net making kit from agouti nets of the internet, and its taken me all weekend to make my first purse net, taking instruction off you tube. the first attempt i didnt double knot and all the knots were loose. i have sussed it now and i am well chuffed. i can recomend making your own , at first i thought i would never be able to suss it out.
  13. i exercise both the lurcher and staffy this way, i tie a rope around my middle with the handles of thr leads through the rope. a lead and dog on each side of me, then i get the dogs to pull me on the mountain bike. the first time i did this i tied the leads to the bike around the bikes seat post with a bungee elastic for a shock absorber. when i got down the end of the lane a rabbit ran across the path. the lurcher shot after it stretching thr elastic about 40 yards, there was a load crack sounding like a rifle shot, the elastic snapped and the hook fired against my thigh. it seemed to happen i

  15. i have a first cross collie greyhound, thats 8 years old. its taken me 6 years to get him to walk at heel off the lead , including whilst lamping ie not using a slip. he has been a b*****d to train. when i first got him i started him off all wrong. i let him tag along when i was coursing, instead of starting off ferretting he started off on hares . if i put him on a rabbit day time he just dissapears big style looking for hares, if he doesnt put one up he can be gone for half an hour. while i am ferretting he has a habit of moving on to the next warren before i have finnished . he goes compl
  16. it is true some track dogs have taken to coursing successfully, but on the other hand a lot of cast off track dogs have had a go at entering the coursing field and died of exhaustion . track dogs run 220 or 440 some will do 600 metres. in coursing the hare is given at least 100 yards before the dogs are slipped. A. Atmore used to waite for ever giving the dogs massive slips to make up. if the hare has 150 yard lead the dogs will have nearly done 300 to 400 yards to turn the hare , then if its a good strong hare the dogs course for a couple of more turns, they are covering a lot of ground , a l
  17. go to your nearest dog track and ask the lads there to have a look at her she will be locked up . [muscle in spasm ]
  18. i also went out lamping friday night , it took me twenty runs to catch one rabbit....! good job its on my doorstep.
  19. i work a staffy bitch, with my lurcher and ferrets. i would advice you to try to get a young bitch [bitches being smaller and faster] and get her broken to ferrets first then you will be sorted. i dont usually bother using nets just bolt for dogs. the staffy will squeeze right in big thick hedges and waite for a bolt, then grab the rabbits as soon as they leave the holes, she can usually predict wich hole the rabbit will bolt from. staffys love to work, but get em used to ferrets first.
  20. i wouldnt worry, i have a first cross dog ,he looked like his sire was a jack russel as a pup, i thought he was never going to get any shape.
  21. what work does the staffy bitch?
  22. []this year ive been going ferreting on new permission where i have not been able to take the dogs,so we have been putting 50 odd nets down and running my jills through with no collars on. i find that they dont dislondge the nets.i then put the hobs in with collars on.and dig if necessary.but when i come home and take the dogs out, i just take one jill in a small carry box , no nets, no collar, no spade and thus far its the best sport ive ever had.not putting nets down you arent making a noise and a quike bolt usually takes place. i only go for a few bolts per warren for the dogs to chase, im
