I recently found a feral ferrret in a laybye between Stratford and Oxford . She was covered with ticks and very smelly . Not like normal ferret odour but more like Tom Cat. I treated her with frontline and the ticks have gone, she eats well but is loose in her poo. She eats rabbit and dried food and is the same with both. She also appears to be nocturnal sleeping all day and only coming out into the run at night. She will allow you to pick her up but is not happy. she has broken the wire on the cage and chewed the plye wood twice to try and escape but seems OK now. I have a couple of que

Early this year I treated myself to a BSA R10 and a Trident Gen 2 night vision scope. This combination was magic on the two cricket grounds and stables I have to shoot on, sitting out at night taking rabbits very easily at about 30 metres in total darkness. Following a holiday lay off I came to zero the sights in the garden prior to a requested night sortie and have found that the zero has gone way off. The gun has not been knocked as it was locked in my gun cabinet. Is this a known problem?? or has anybody else had the same problem. Any comments would be welcomed. Pigeon Controller

I've used bought purse nets for some years and last week my mate borowed the ferrets to take his brother out. When he came back he said that some of my nest were wrongly strung and would not purse properly. I've made 25 nets myself this year and he said that they were correct in that the draw string was not fixed at the bottom ring just passed through this allowed it to close properly. does this realy matter or is there a right or wrong way to fix the draw cord? Would you stop if it was outlawed
Pigeon Controller replied to stevethefish's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I would carry on as in my mind my Father and Grand Father fought in two wars to defend freedom of speach and that means traditions as well. I went on the London March with the Countrysid Alliance and felt proud to be with like minded people. If all the shooters and fishermen 100% decided to decend on London and show Parliment what we think they would all hide. Keep Shooting. Ferreting and Fishing Pigeon Controller -

Mk Two Deben locator dial stickers
Pigeon Controller replied to Pigeon Controller's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Thanks for all your help lads, I said it was a Mk 2 as thats whats on the wheel. I looked on Ebay and could not find any stickers but will look again. Thanks Pigeon Controller -
I was just sorting my kit out for the last session of the spring, when checking the locator it must have got wet after the last session and the dial has peeled off. Looking on the bay they used to have spare stickers but not now. I might file some larger grooves in the edge of the wheel and paint any other ideas???? It is a 15ft locator and I use it with the Mk 3 magnetic collars a I can not get on with the Mk3 locator and its constant noise. Pigeon Controller

I was out with the Ladies last week ( Six month old sisters) and we had some good sport. the two albinos now come to the net and wait ,move the net to the side and they come out. My polecat lady is still sulking, I tried putting the carry box outside the hole and walk away she came out of the hole and into the box . When I walked back she came out of the box and into the hole. At home I have been playing with her in plastic pipes and she comes to your hand when you tap the ground. She is a good hunter and bolts rabbits as soon as you enter her. I will have to keep training and wait for her to

I went out with my three ladies last week, the two albinos were magic, stopping at the net when they had done, move the net to one side and they pop out. My polecat is still sulking, but is a good hunter bolting rabbits soon after being put in the berry. I tried the trick of leaving the carry box by the hole and walking away, she came straight out of the hole into the box as I walked back she popped out of the box and down the hole. I have trained her back at home with a piece of plastic pipe and she will come out to your hand. Any way I really enjoyed the two days 14 rabbits all pursed, no ru

I have a number of these types of burrows and the way that I net them is to screw in the electric fence insulaters ( tape hooks)above the holes and anchor the net peg to these. I obtained most of my hooks from discarded fencing at my daughters riding stable. You make no noise screwing them in and the rabbits are well secured in the nets. Good Luck Pigeon Controller

I have a number of 250 gram nylon twine spools ( 10 x 210/24 and 10 x 210/12) it is my intention to atempt to make a longnet or at the very least some new purse nets. In the passed it has been stated that you have to double not nylon twine but on unpicking a scrap of sheet net of the same size it would appear that this is a single knot ??. Because the sheet net is made by a machine it is made at an increased tension and so only needs a single not?? Also what does the 210/24 and the 210/12 equate to? Thanking you in anticipation Pigeon Controller

I have a rabbit proof fence(not) along a railway on a ten acre on my permission. early this year I put ten wire single catch rabbit traps out on the holes in the fence. They worked I caught rabbits, partridge, pheasant and hedgehogs. I am thinking to instal some drop boxes what else may I catch Mink,Hedghogs, fox cubs? or will the trap door support lighter vermin and only catch rabbits? Pigeon Controller
