  3. The lads are right, when judging you can only go by the dog who looks the best, but it does upset a lot of people when they could have the ugliest dog ,and know that it is a great worker ,NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER
  4. What,s going on with this MINSHAW thing, these dogs are nothing like the old dogs vic used to breed(and myself).years ago the dogs where bred for lamp only, never for daytime as vic will confirm. The hancock colllie x is easily recognised by it,s colour but is nothing comparable with the old breed vic bred, old BLUE was the son of NIPPER, he looked like an old labrador x. BLUE was just over 25 "and the best dog i have witnessed in my lifeand i have seen some good dogs(lamp only). But that was a long time
  5. I am sure that great hunter Simon Whitehead can give you some good advice ,i watched his dvd when he drove around shooting hares with a bullet rifle(because they where nibbling young shoots),i know one thing you dont need all the camo gear on.
  6. That was some good answers by the lads, try and get hold of poachers pocket breed, and definitely EG Walsh Lurchers and Longdogs.
  7. I h ave seen wheatonxgreyhoundxpit, greyhound dog it looked a handy dog ,but i don,t think it is a running dog ,more like day dog.
  8. Welcome,i wish mine was happy.

  9. Did you win the lottery?

  10. Welcome, what dogs do you lamp?

  11. I have a mick mansbridge hessian net ,it,s abit heavy especially when wet but pretty good once set out,i also have a double mesh net i purchased off a good ferreter Mick dadd from Sheffield ,this too has been effective but yet to own the net rabbbits won,t chew through if your not quick.

  12. I,ve done a lot around them areas,definitely no deer,nearest ones around Abergele(fallow)HOT
  13. Watch for BLACK RABBITS, i noticed these a couple of years ago southwest Scotland, they reckon the ministry put them down injected with VHD,kills them below ground.
  14. Opinel is good knife, failing that i mostly use a stanley knife.
  15. If ,(sorry ) when the hunting ban is over turned (2011 i would predict)coursing will probably not be legalised unless licenced, the redcoats(sounds like billy butlins)will be allowed as it is an industry being affected by the ban and affects the equestrian side of society which carrie,s many votes. The likes of john craven and his countryfile crew will be popping there heads up pretty often ,same as the papers, all about the amount of rural crime ,poaching theft of machinery etc,i wonder if this has to do with the fact NEW LABOUR are on the run from the conservatives and trying to gather public s
  16. I have owned a lot of bull xx,s,in fact i was one of the first people to breed them in 1980 ,they can be hard to work with and headstrong, they don,t have the character of your collie x but it depends entirely what you want to hunt?Horses for courses is the name of the game.

  17. Looks like a promising hound there, don,t over do it if still young.
  18. I think the best thing you can put cross with is a collie x greyhound ,you have the strenght of the bull, you have the retreiving ability of the pointer, now you just need the brain of the collie and always remember to keep the speed of the greyhound, or even a collie, grehound, whippet and i think you will be onto something good.
  19. I went on a dig with Bert in the early eighties after i done a write up in the"shooting news" as it was called then,Bert had some russell type terriersand they where exceptional fox working terriers.
  20. The best thing you can give your dog is BORIC ACID powder, you can buy this from the chemists , you rub it on the dog and leave it for 24 hours, but wash the dog first and make sure he is wormed and fed right. My kids look good.
  21. I used a gun a few years back ,and unless your a keeper or someone protecting stock or gamebirds,i find this no sport at all. To hunt them with a dog you feel you have outwitted them more and the challenge is better,i remember letting my son shoot one or two from the van we were in when calling them,he was only six and the fox remains right where you shoot it,no chase or fair sport for me,i think there are a lot of gun happy people out there, defenitely not hunters.
  22. Had a few moments myself, shot at ,keepers dogs ,cops and ghilliesbut only been in court once and they could not prove i was on estate as i was pulled driving ,they eventually decided to do me for destroying a rabbit £250 fine, the prosecutor then asked me "what,s the best method of cooking them".
