zini replied to davyt63's topic in General Airgun Discussion
Dont forget your catapults lads as we are having a tin can shooting comp at the meet. Ten beer cans, 10 shots. Who ever scores most points wins. Ranges are 2 at 5m, 2 at 10m, 2 at 15m and 4 at 20 m. 4 points for the 20m cans each. 3 points for the 15m 2 points for the 10m 1 point for the 5m cans. -
Nicely done yet again Mac. It looks like you have some nice rifles in your armoury. Nice shot placement on the corvid.

Im bringing my son Dylan, Davy. He will be shooting Lauras .177 BSA Ultra SE. Hes 13 so will be a junoir open class. I pick him up from the airport on Sat so have a full week to train him up for his first comp. -
Nice write up mate. Can I suggest that you try holding the rifle a different way and dont support the under lever while shooting it mate. I can imagine that you didnt zero the rifle in this hold. By shooting it like this you are magnifying a process called jump. Jump happens on firing a recoiling rifle. By doing this you are in fact causing the barrel to shoot high and the pellet to fly over the target. Just some helpful advice mate.

Sorry Webster. You will just have to take my word for it it wasnt very nice to look at. Not as bad as some ive seen but defo in need of a bit of TLC.
-
Cheers Phil. Just a shame about the range finger playing up at first and the zero being very low. Maybe we could of had another 3 or 4 more.

Thanks everyone. Been out tonight with Phil (Mawders) and the HW80 got its first 3 bunnies since its restore. One was a standing unsupported 38 meter perfect brain shot too . No where near as good as Phils 51 meter standing unsupported perfect brain shot though on a bunny . One of the best shots Ive seen with a springer this year. Pure class it was.

Hi there lads, In this episode of VHTV I and Davy restore an old and abused 1995 model Weihrauch HW80 back to its former shooting glory in the hope of using it as a vermin shooting rifle later on. Watch to see how this poor run down rifle was turned into a swan in Rags to Riches. Please enjoy. Si & Davy. Mick (Moxy) the reason I've stuck it in this section mate is that there is some hunting footage at the end of the episode buddy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_skf396Bdp0

No problems Craig buddy. It doesn't matter if a rifle is regged or not mate in this scenario. Have you ever heard of people keeping their pcp rifle next to a radiator and the cylinder exploding? The air in the cylinder warms up and expands with the heat. This is the same thing but to a lot lesser degree mate. Warm air from a warm cylinder going into a warm reg will propel your pellet faster. Its well known with gun powder ammunition as well mate. In the military we call it the cold gun scenario. Its well known to artillery soldiers and snipers. We don't use gun power b -

Me and Davy have had the same results today Craig. Air temp really affects a rifles power. For accurate shooting your rifle needs calibrating at a normal temp for the time of year. We had the same results with our springers. Grease temp resulting in grease thickness and flowidity, air temp and air pressure and location altitude all play a part in POI. Si. -

Nicely done mate. -
Stu, Some of what you put is correct mate but please dont believe everything that you read in the airgun mags buddy. 35 yards is no where near what can be achieved with practice mate. Si.
-
I wouldnt be thinking about hunting yet mate. I think your much better shooting at paper or metal targets and practicing lots mate before your ready to humanely hunt rabbits. Theres not much more off putting than watching a rabbit in distress due to a bad wounding. Id personally advise zeroing at 25 yards and practicing at that range.

Well in Daz. A worthly end to a winged menaces life.

Match a Ultra with the correct pellet for what its barrel likes and shoot it correctly it will match a top end hunting PCP. My Mrs Ultra SE 2 weeks ago beat a Styer target rifle, a AA MPR, a AA S510 and a HW100 in a friendly comp at my local club. Infact it came first. Great rifles.

Welcome mate. Weihrauch are brilliant rifles. Good choice you have made there.

I've got the Bisley adjustable butt pad on both my 97s, my Spectre and now my HW80 Simon. It really transforms your head position into the perfect position. Well worth fitting mate.
