something else to keep my eyes open for.. http://www.rossendalefreepress.co.uk/news/...ma_on_the_prowl
  3. foxdropper, both birds appeared to be the same, but my species recognition is poor, pidgeon robin magpie pheasent etc, so this may not be the case. i will visit the area a couple of times a week and hopefully be able to put up a defining shot in the not too distant future, sorry but try as i might i just cant recall any sound at all, it was very windy and i was wearing hood and balaclava, so maybe there was noise but my ears were to muffled to hear.
  4. hello jasper, it was happening quite low in the sky, as the one i photographed took off from the wall, the attack initiater had just appeared above us, i think this is what spooked my one more than my presence, the one on the wall must of got about four storeys high when it took the first hit, after this i lost track of which bird was which but the action stayed at this level with attacker rising up about 20 foot or so above to set up the next attack, have attached photos of what i thought may be evidence of its presence, but not to clued up on these things so it may be from another predator.
  5. i cannot recall any noise made foxdropper, i was watching the display above and it was quite a blustery wind, one would fly 20 foot + above the other then do a completely vertical dive bomb a bit of flapping at each other when contact was made, and pattern repeated four or five times untill they flew off in opposite directions, i went back to same area for a couple of hours today with adjusted settings on my camera to hopefully get a better pic, but no sightings, just found a couple of what might be kill/meal sites.
  6. terrys, im guessing by jesses you mean leather tassle/thong things of some kind on its feet, if so i did not see any.
  7. i will do my best to see if i can get a better photo over the next few days, would be nice to get one clear enough to leave no doubt, but dont hold your breath as i think my unnoticed approach was more by fluke than judgement.
  8. the bird in the last link you put up stork, seems pretty dam close to what i saw, is it one of the species that has been suggested?
  9. Ditch-shitter , i have looked at google images this evening at several of the suggested species, and the only one that seems to suggest the same size as the one i saw IS the northern goshawk, but it was an american site so dont know if that could be found in the uk, when i caught the movement on wall my first thought was that it was a cat, it really was that kinda size, just out of the photo to the left is a steep rise to some moorland almost a cliff but not quite, and to the right of view a large field away is a small scrub woodland behind a housing estate.
  10. thanks guys, DS i cannot remember being overly struck by the length of tail, i saw it take off and fly right in front of me and my eyes were drawn to the size of its body , then the other one quickly appeared and i was caught up in the spectacle, lol at penguin cross falcon TIS, the picture quality is poor and does it no justice when i loaded it up i thought it looked like a big pidgeon lol.
  11. i saw this today and not sure what it is,i think it might be a peraguin falcon .....am i right ?i t was very big, and after i took the snap another one appeared, they started dive bombing each other , not sure if it was a territorial fight or a mating ritual, the first time i have witnessed this behavior close up, made up for seeing no rabbits, and maybe explains why?
  12. dont want to hijack the thread, is great that there is some good 'PR' for a change, but this recent story is going to grab alot more attention unfortunatley. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article3054143.ece
