  1. I think you did the right thing in moving to another part of the farm, not just for safety reasons but it shows respect for the other shooter. Also if you ring or better still go and introduce yourself in person it helps to form a good relationship, and you never know it may even lead to some more permission .
  2. I agree with most of the replies here mate. Whatever happens try to keep your dogs, in general they'll treat you far better than any human being will, and they'll never show you any malice. ATB.
  3. It's the ranger pro that I spot with, and depending on the background you can spot foxes out to at least 300 yards, though against some backgrounds it's a lot less, but I still find it better than constantly using the lamp, and it's great for lampshy animals.
  4. Good to hear a happy outcome for a change. ATB for the coming season.
  5. Are you trying to make us all jealous?... Cos if you are it's working lol. Looks a lovely place mate. ATB
  6. I've tried others but personally I find this one best for me, the shootalite is lighter and smaller but doesn't give enough range for foxing with the 243, and the more powerful lamps are bigger and heavier. The majority of my lamping is walking, and I carry the rifle and lamp slung on my shoulder, and spot using a yukon ranger, only switching to the lamp when I'm ready to shoot, which makes things less tiring on the arms when out for a few hours. I also spot this way if I'm out for any length of time at night with the 22, even though it's a lot lighter than the 243, constantly raising and low
  7. Hi Lee, I use a laserlite LA 4 for both lurcher work, and scope mounted on top of my 243. The handle quickly detaches by removing 2 screws, and fixing the scope mounting kit. I used to use it on my 22 also (I have NV on that now), I simply bought a second scope mount for a few quid, and left one attached to each scope. The mounts don't interfere with daytime shooting at all. With this lamp Foxes are shootable to well over 200 yards. Kenny
  8. That's sound advice from the two lads. Hope it goes well.
  9. They look a really nice litter. All the best with them
  10. Really good stuff artic, and a joy to read . I fully agree with you too that the nights when the dogs have to really work are by far the most enjoyable.
  11. Your photos are absolutely fantastic Hannah, well done. I love the write up too, it gives you that feeling of being there. Kenny
  12. Nice going . Can't beat a few good runs without having to trek miles.
  13. Thanks mate like you said its being out that counts some people just need to grow up It is being out that counts, and you seem to be doing everything right to me . Don't let any negative comments on here get to you mate, I enjoy hearing your updates. Keep it going, and ATB to you and the dog. Kenny
  14. I've had similar numbers to usual so far, but same as mattydski, I've been spending a lot of time running rabbits with the lurcher. We've also had a lot of poor weather conditions with mist and fog on many of the nights I've intended going out. The fogs just clearing here now, and I'm hoping to get out tonight
  15. Good stuff lads. And a good read. Keep them coming. ATB Kenny
  16. You're right, judges do have a very hard job to do. But regarding entering dogs under 12 months in the working lurcher class I've entered mine(and won several times) this year as she's been catching daytime rabbits regularly from 7 months, and took to the lamp before she was 12 months, which in my opinion entitles her to be classed as 'working'. I know this is an exception, and over the many years I've worked lurchers I've never had one doing so well at such a young age, but it is possible to be both under twelve months and a worker. ATB Kenny
  17. Nice looking dogs mate, and they look very comfy on there!
  18. Hi and welcome. I can't comment on the Dipol, but I use a SM-3S day/night scope on my .22 rimfire, and I find it excellent. Last year I shot hundreds of Rats with it at ranges of 5 - 30 yards, but with the image quality and viewing range, I'd have no worries about using it on my .243 as Foxes and Rabbits stand out clearly at well over 300 yards.
  19. Hello, and welcome. Wish I lived closer, I love ratting. ATB
  20. These people are so ignorant and shortsighted . They're the worst type of anti. They've no idea of the carnage that non native predators like Mink can wreak in the countryside. Lets hope they're all accounted for quickly (then we can start getting the Mink!).
