  1. Yes, and this includes Fenns. All live catch traps must by law be inspected once within each 24 hour period, not once a day or daily, as is often quoted (checking 'once a day' could easily mean the law is being broken). This includes Larsen traps. Failure to do so could also land the offender on one or more charges under the many animal welfare laws. It's refreshing to see a couple of posts relating to common sense and ethics. If only the people making the laws could use a bit of common sense and put things in plain English it'd be a simpler world.
  2. I lagree with you, and as I stated in one of my earlier replies, I believe it should be made a legal requirement.
  3. I think that you need to have a read of the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Ac and its amendments if you think that it is not a legal requirement to check spring traps daily ... OTC You're wrong again! Regarding your advice on my reading the Wildlife & countryside act and it's subsequent amendments, I do so on an almost daily basis, and I happen to be very familiar with it. Enough to be classed as an expert by the many agencies and bodies who pay for my advice and guidance in it and its workings. My interpretation of this particular point is good enough for all, including the statu
  4. So you do not check your traps within each and every 24 hours? This is a legally mandated necessity for humanity if nothing else ... I have written evidence from the inventor of the Fenn trap that whilst it was designed to be used within the confines of a tunnel, and its use is implicitly determined by the tunnel dimensions, it would also work adequately as an uncovered trap, for rats. The original Ministerial approval that they were given back in 1957 dictated that they should be used within 'a purpose built artificial tunnel' but also 'for the taking of rats or mice and set in the op
  5. It states that the rifle was forfeited, so I'd assume that meant his FAC was revoked. It was stupid to leave the rifle anyway, but what I find odd is that if he was looking for game and had found some, what was he intending to do, ask it to wait while he returned for the rifle? Also IMO the Dog walker technically should also have been prosecuted, as he was in possession of a firearm and ammunition which, even if he was a FAC holder he wasn't authorised to be in possession of that particular weapon.
  6. Go on tell us it's a bloke!...... If not she's got some strength, that chain would hold a battleship!
  7. song frush  Iwish I'd thought of that! The eggs and nest are similar to a Robin.
  8. I assume that was directed at me, but I fail to see why you're offended, as I never insulted or ridiculed you in any way did I? Some of the advice I and others have given you. just could help you keep your FAC if you really have one, not to mention a lot of money in possible fines and barristers fees, should you decide to assume what may be legal and ethical. Remember that you may badly need advice one day, and many of us might just say
  9. micky, you don't know anything about me, other than what you seem to have read from between the lines. If you did know me I seriously doubt that you'd be discrediting my experience or ability (the largest part of my professional life is spent representing a very well known national organisation. The ecology and habits of British Mammals, animal management techniques, wildlife and countryside laws are just some of the subjects that I'm regularly called upon to give 'expert advice' on), so perhaps you have come across me in some capacity after all, but just don't realise it. I don't know you, he
  10. Nice offer mark. Hope it works out for both of you P.S... Pity it's just a typo 'cos we could do with getting rid of some of those fecking antis!
  11. No need to call me a silly fecker But I think you're 'spot' on Hopefully over the next few weeks I'll be able to get more photos of them as things develop.
  12. Most of my weekends are a bit like a busmans holiday except I get to do things for myself instead of others. And if I fancy doing something completely unrelated, I can just say feck it, and go.........It's a hard life
  13. Is that like a common fecking Buzzard, only bigger?
  14. I don't understand some of that. Any tunnel or restriction needs to be wide enough to accommodate the open/set trap including the safety. The traps width reduces rapidly and dramatically as it is sprung, so the horizontal restriction doesn't really come into play for this point. Also, the 1/2 inch clearance (recommended or not) would ensure the trap hit the tunnel roof when sprung, slowing down the closing time, and cause several other potential problems, all of which would reduce it's catching efficiency. My intention is not to argue points or claim to be better than anyone else. My find
  15. Kay, you're a true romantic............ But I think they're two males fighting!
  16. Just seen these underwater shots, and they're quite stunning: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2153046/The-beauty-terror-marine-life-Stunning-underwater-shots-showcase-strange-world-beneath-waves.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
  17. Sat outside the house enjoying a rest and the odd drink (well several) last week I noticed a pair of Birds tirelessly building a nest, and yesterday the first egg was layed. There hasn't been so many 'guess the bird' posts lately, so I won't say just yet, but it shouldn't be too hard.
  18. Bet you ended up with one big bicep too! I used to have a hand mincer and boy was it hard work..............and soooooo slow! Or maybe I'm just a wimp
  19. You've shown some bravery there. And your fella deserves credit too ATB
  20. LOL at the mixed opinions of experienced people with the exception of lab just how many of the posters on this thread are full time professional keepers?? P.s I used the word professional to keep lab happy Full time, technically no. But that's because training & consultancy work pays far more.
  21. :hmm: Care to elaborate? Or would you find it easier to understand if I re posted in words of single syllable?
