    Tensmuir

Alright selvey, hope we are talking about the same place here bud but i got a chance to shoot geese a month or so back on a pig farm called Vicarsford next to tensmuir forest. Anyway there were thousands there that day a mixture of pinks and greys but on a 100 acre field they weren't interested in the decoys. Managed to bag 1 for the day so wasn't a complete wash out.
  5. Summer for me means hard graft so it can feck off for a while yet.
  6. Thats because you know your talking shite. Hey you asked , if you wanted only folk who would agree with you you shouldn't have asked for an opinion....In think malt called it right about you mate. Cant speak for Maltenby mate but i thought that our discussion went well and both of us got our points over pretty evenly. You obviously have a problem with commercial pheasant shooting as you discribe as "fat guys in tweeds blasting anything that moves"? Just annoys me when some on here thinks they can put down another persons sport just because its not for them. I dont run dogs but
  7. Well thats a tough 1 and am sure whatever i say will have a negative effect in some way but it would have to go along the lines of 2 maybe 3months of possibly shooting any buzzards that are causing poult deaths. I think the keeper of the estate or whoever runs the shoot should be able to cull any numbers of destructive birds that he sees killing poults. Once the pheasants get a chance to settle in and know there surroundings they are more equiped to look after themselves and this is why a 2/3 month period should be fine. Then if anybody caught killing any birds of prey outside this time a ha

  9. I agree with a lot of that. Man is at the top of the evolutionary tree and the food chain and has a right to control all species below him (subject to the law - which he also controls) It is a natural environment and we are part of that environment. There are many predators but not many that predate on man's food. Foxes and corvids are probably worse than the raptors. The Buzzards are generally regarded as lazy predators and although they are very numerous I would argue they are of limited impact. Thankfully their diets are mainly invertebates, amphibians and carion. If they mainly fed on

  13. I have never doubted you on what a Buzzard eats in a lifetime and i am sure everything you have listed is on the menu and many more......but the fact is in the 2/3 months of the year that poults are released they take a hammering from not only Buzzards but other birds of prey as well. Also as Hily has stated in another post the constant harrassing of birds is another factor in the world of gamekeeping. I am sure if i google "fox hunting" i will find thousands of info' of how this cruel and barbaric sport has gone on for generations but the majority of it will be nonsense and far from the trut
  14. OK mate, fair play your right, I suppose was too defensive with my original post, sorry about that. My views on the matter are, that the countyside as we know it exists today, due to the way man has manipulated it for hundreds of years. It is not a natural environment, it exists as it is today, because of the way that man has looked after it, be it for shooting, farming, whatever. The population of predators, is therefore linked to man's use of the land. These numbers need to be kept in check, because they are in an environment that they haven't evolved to live in. There's a fi
  15. Think you better get your specs on and read the f###ing post again. Its a topic to see what opinions people have on rising Buzzard numbers and should there be a cull? That response about sums up why it's not worth having a debate about things on here these days. Pish! You have just realised that your post was utter garbage and now want to back track. If my post began "I like to kill Buzzards" then you would have a genuine point. Not pish mate, not at all. Are you not aware of the smear campaigns by the RSPB on gamekeepers? Some things are too sensitive to be debated on h

  19. Make a nice rug if you got enough of them :11:
  20. After an hour and a half we finally get our stupid post of the evening. This is the reason i stated 'cull' and not just simply a wipe out of the Buzzard because there are certain months of the year that it is needed. However you are correct in you 'gamekeeper mentality' statement but it is you who is obviously uneducated? If you honestly think that the buzzard is going to hunt for food when there are 'easy pickings' such as pheasant and patridge poults you are seriously deluded.
  21. What are peoples opinions on Buzzard numbers nowadays, surely some kind of cull is needed? It seems on every 2nd fence post one of the hook beaks are there!
  22. Looks solid mate, some feet on her? If you never said 'she' i would have that she was a dog.
  23. Get down the local pound thats what i would do. If they are not interested in a working dog then theres no need for any pedigree dog. Get the kids involved and let them pick a wee cracker, a mongrel if that suits. A small donation and everyone is happy.
  24. Are you sure your ferrets live in they hutches mate? There the cleanest hutches i have ever seen
