  1. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Bitch-J-M-Evans/dp/1860540236 - this book is supposed to be the one to read up on all matters concerning pregnancy and birth... http://www.dorwest.com/Catalogue/Veterinary-Medicine/Raspberry-Leaf-tablets - these people are pretty helpful if you phone them up... Can someone on here not recommend you a decent vet in the area? Good luck with the bitch and pups.
  2. Its a right pain isnt it - mine came with a fear of nail clipping and when I think back she had REALLY short claws when I got her so maybe they'd been cut past the quick at some point, anyway, tried loads of different methods, filing, etc which all seemed to make things worse. In the end I spent about a week just familiarising her with the clippers and getting her to associate them with particularly tasty treats which I ONLY use for nail clipping time - she got a treat every time she let me take her foot and touch the nail with clippers, etc before i even started the actual clipping - just ge
  3. Thats an awful thing to say about your sister............ Ha - thankfully she will never read this - typical comment from a Fifer though! Takes one to know one I suppose!
  4. Mostly Irish Wolfhound( vaguely understandable as she is a d/hound x)but my favourite was with my old bitch (similar x) when I was visiting my sister in Glasgow - overgrown rat!!!! Obviously highly offended but definately the funniest so far... Since she was small she's been mistaken for an old boy, and yes, had all those "pedigree lurcher" conversations too...mad old lady with excessively fat lab occasionally shouts "skinny bitch" at us in the street as well....
  5. Bonny lad, whatever's in him, mine has a matching tail like that too! I often wonder where the curly tail originates from - it took her ages to grow into it...All the best with him.
  6. Right, I know a TINY bit more about moths after today - apparently they are common clothes moths - not sure about the case bearing part - does that refer to the cobwebby bit? The guy who came today advised me to wrap the paintings in clingfilm, remove them while they spray and for at least 6 hours after(maybe leave a bit longer?) and reckons they should be fine to go back after that...apparently any residue won't permeate through. So I guess I've just got to get wrapping... Thanks a lot for all the replies.
  7. my thought aswell CBCM? Sorry, as above am clueless!?!
  8. Thanks Matt, will find out when I meet them tomorrow and get back to you then if that's ok - don't even know what species am afraid - ones which like wool, velvet etc...Great to have some direct questions to ask them, cheers.
  9. Ok, will find out which chemical/application they're planning on using - had assumed there was a standard moth killer in use but know nothing about it(obviously!)- was asking here as the company are very vague about it - lots of shoulder shrugging, suppose they don't want to be held reponsible for any damage which is fair enough - I was hoping someone might have experience of how permeable the substance is. Was thinking of wrapping them in plastic but will post again when I find out a bit more. Thanks.
  10. Hi all, Hope someone can give me a bit of advice - we re inundated with moths at work and having pest controllers round to spray this week. When they came to spray last year they said that the chemical they use "destroys oil paintings" but were no more specific than that, so as my work consists of oil paintings didn't give them access to my storage place. However the moths are back and we need to spray the whole building now - so if I remove the paintings while they are spraying how long will it be before I can put them back in the store? How long does the moth chemical(?) stay active? If
  11. Blimey do you think she is related to mine?!
  12. All the best with this Skycat - I always look out for your posts to glean a bit more knowledge so a book sounds excellent. Put me on your waiting list please! Just healed over the latest foot injury but if only I'd known... ! Good luck.
  13. My D/H cross was 21 months though as Chook said she did show very slight signs and male dogs were interested(but no blood or anything else, just barely noticeable swelling) around 6 months before, so I think that was probably a 'silent season'. Was going to get her checked if she hadn't had a proper one at 2. Just waiting for the 2nd one now!
  14. Sorry to hear that, was hoping you'd found him. Had a dog stolen myself 20 years ago now so I know how heartbreaking it is. One of my friends had a dog stolen a couple of years ago and she got her back 8 months later though, so don't give up. Keep phoning all the wardens etc as they don't often seem to have any communication between different councils, and they re often a bit iffy on recognising breeds. All the best.
  15. I give brewer's yeast a couple of times a week or so as its meant to provide B-vitamins and deter fleas(I also give garlic). She doesn't generally have a problem with fleas except once when I took in a stray who was riddled with them. But then I only have one dog so its easier to keep on top of it without the fronline or whatever, which I'm not that keen on(I'm not in tick-country either). I remember taking loads of it myself to (supposedly)keep the midges at bay and still got eaten alive!
  16. Damn, at not at home and don't have the internet there so this isn't much use Im afraid but I was flicking through Jackie Drakeford's "House Lurcher" the other night and noticed there was a whole illustrated section on the type of tail injury you describe. If anyone has it to hand maybe someone could look it up? Sure someone with direct experience will come up with something first. Pipe and vetwrap sounds like a good plan to me though and I'd use homeopathic hypericum internally. Hope she recovers soon, good luck.
  17. I use them all the time, though as I go in on someone else's order cant comment on delivery price or times. Food is generally fine though they 're sometimes out of stock on some things and quality(say the amount of meat on the ribs) can sometimes be variable. For me its great to have a freezer full of meat though, as butchers supplies round here are hopeless. Makes life easy and you can always top up from other sources.
  18. Hi I know exactly what you mean. Mine was the same, though now she is getting better at 16 months - shed also had 4 previous owners by 6 months(!). I ended up buying 2 crates, one for home and one for workshop and REALLY gradually getting her used to them, now she doesnt mind being left for a few hours and cant eat the seats...! My 1st mistake was to only buy one for the workshop - it only started to work once I had one at home as well, nice and comfy inside and blankets over the top, leave the door open, put some treats inside for him to find and only start shutting it for a few seconds at

    Feathers?

Hi all Bit of a random query here - do your birds lose many feathers and what do you do with them? Afraid I am completely clueless apart from our 1 hour falconry lesson for Christmas in Fife which was fantastic and left me wanting to know more. The reason Im asking is that I want to use feathers in an art project, printing from them through a roller press and it would be lovely to use some more unusual feathers - the ones you can buy all seem to be boring and usually shocking pink. No idea however whether people would have any or whether anyone would be willing to part with them... The reaso
