  1. Unless you get a dslr and learn how to use it you will have some great speedy fuzzy dog shots! With a dslr and the right settings your hit rate will be much higher. No reason why you can't get the shots with a good compact or bridge cam but you need to be ahead of the action Be prepared for lots of shots of dog tails and blurred grass while you are learning! Good luck! the one i have just got is prety fast got my hounds on it to day its a good bridge camera Cool Looking forward to seeing your pics
  2. Nice shots, the stagecoach takes me back to the days when I used to work with driving horses. the grooms at that yard could swap a team over in under 22 seconds!
  3. 50mm would be good if you can get close enough You'll have the thing eating out of your hand before long!
  4. Very true... pics of some people (like me) are so much better fuzzy...
  5. Good start, you'll learn Three legged dog is a bit fuzzy, but nice sharp bit of grass there. Nice dog headshot but maybe needs a little more space in front of his/her nose? Nice dandies Bluebell (my favourite flower ) but focus needs to be on the nearest flower not the leaf behind. Ladies underwear? hmmmmm sounds like blackmail material to me...

  7. The Canon 7-300 IS is a pretty good lens, but not outstanding really. I had an old 70-300 non-IS copy and I thought that was actually a better lens, but I may have just been lucky. Top quality prime lenses will always be better than zooms, but... expensive. If you want a real man's lens and want to photograph the fleas on a fox's ears I'd seriously consider the Sigma (arrrrgggghhhhh, yes, I did say Sigma) 150-500 lens. Not sure what they are fetching S/H but definitely worth a look at. My hubby has one (Nikon man, unfortunately) and I've been impressed with the results, comparable to my
  8. Good advice from the previous posts. The 28-135 is a very good lens, picked up one recently to carry as a back-up and ended up using it for a lot of the time at a recent wedding! But for wildlife you really need something with a bit more range, like a 70-300. Cropping means you will lose much of the image, the secret is to fill the frame with the subject... but often you can still get a good shot showing the creature in its environment with a shorter lens, so take the shot anyway! Go for the best quality you can afford when buying lenses - it pays off in the long run because even if you los
  9. www.tarrs.org.uk/feral-cats.html They are always looking for homes for feral cats/kittens, but if you want them to be pets as well you might want to kit the kids out with welding gauntlets before they try and stroke them
  10. oooooh that looks interesting... Just as well it's in the middle of nowhere or the place would be crawling with photographers taking pics of young ladies in various states of undress
  11. New cam seems to work anyway Like the first pic, and the video is good quality too.
  12. Good shot Difficult to get it right with a dark bird against the bright sky too, well done!
  13. Yn's suggestion to clean the contacts is worth a try - very gently with soft cloth and maybe a tiny dab of lens cleaner (if it is a suitable one) Some people recommend using a pencil eraser, but only use a very light touch... You usually get an error code with a contact problem though. I presume you've tried flicking the AF switch back and forth a few times, putting a freshly charged battery in, throwing the lens at the dog, etc...?
  14. Think Undi hit the nail on head, out of focus reeds... you often don't notice stuff like this when looking through the camera because you will be looking at it with the lens at its widest aperture setting. As the shutter fires the lens will automatically stop down to whatever aperture is right for the exposure. You can check the focus by using the depth of field preview button (if your camera has one) and this will show what will be in focus in the actual shot.
  15. Will probably cost more than that to buy a film and get it developed... depends what lens comes with it.
  16. Well you're okay you've got a collection of torches, and you could always bounce the flash off the top of your head...
  17. You're getting there Light is the main thing in photography so you might want to invest in a flashgun if you don't already have one... the onboard flash units don't really have enough oomph. A company called Yongnuo do a very acceptable alternative to the Canon 580ex, but it will only work manually. It doeas have the same power as the 580 though, and I've found it very useful as a slave flash off - camera. http://www.long-exposure.com/blog/2010/11/05/yongnuo-speedlite-yn560-vs-canon-580ex-vs-sunpak-pf30x/ Getting the flash as far away from the lens as possible will also help to reduce
  18. That wagtail is a cracker Nice ribbits Ghillies any tadpoles yet?
  19. Sounds like it is the AF on the lens that's the problem. A lot of cameras have the default set so that they will not take a pic if the lens hasn't locked on to the focus. It is probably not worth sending the lens in for repair. For what it would cost can probably pick up something better off ebay, or use it manually.
  20. Excellent shots Kay, love the black and white ones, and I'm glad to see the old dog is still around
  21. I can't believe you said that... Look what happens when people like Ghillies are let loose with editing software... photos taken in the dark have a nasty (but unsurprising) habit of looking like they were taken in the dark... get over it, or get some more light on the subject, but don't mangle the feck out of them afterwards and totally destroy the image quality please. I like the fox against the tree in the dark. It has mood and atmosphere, makes it more than just an urban fox...
  22. I gave a talk to a camera club.. On arrival I was given a very warm welcome by at least four people who thought I was a new member and tried to extract 50p from me for coffee at half time... Their digital projector was a total mystery to everyone present (the guy who knew about it wasn't there that night) but most people seemed to enjoy listening to what I had to say (apart from the one who seemed to think wimmin weren't supposed to do photography, and the odd anti-photoshop heckler). Other than that it was sort of okay, but not really my scene. I was expecting the people there to be a bit m
  23. that'll be because it's a video tripod If you are going to splash out on a new one, Manfrotto, Giottos or Benbo are pretty good makes. Also check out Three Legged Things for some excellent British designs
  24. Lovely shots They've got the babies here on the coast here too but I doubt I'll get time to go get any pics of them Hope you're okay after that fall, nothing worse than slimy rocks... been there!!!
